Cougar alum secures spot on USATF roster for IAAF World Championships in Doha

Des Moines, IOWA – Houston Track & Field alum Amere Lattin earned a third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2019 USATF Outdoor Championships, earning a spot on the USATF roster for the IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar.

For the third time in the last three seasons, a Cougar cemented a roster spot on the USATF team, as Lattin ran a lifetime best 48.66 to take third-place in the 400-meter hurdles. The Cougar alum survived and advanced, winning his heat in both the opening round and the semifinals.

On Thursday, Lattin clinched a spot in the semifinals with a first-place finish in the second heat and second-place finish overall at 49.66. The following day Lattin won his heat once again and finished third-overall at 49.12 to advance to the finals.

Lattin becomes the fourth Cougar to advance to the IAAF World Championships in the last three seasons and also automatically qualifies for the Team USA roster at the 2019 Europe vs. USA Match (Sept. 9-10; Minsk, Belarus) and the 2019 Thorpe Cup (Sept. 14-15; Bernhausen, Germany).

Houston will continue action at the USATF Outdoor Championships tomorrow when Cougar alum Trumaine Jefferson competes in the long jump. The meet will be televised on NBC Sports Gold, NBC Sports Network and NBC. The full competition and broadcast schedule can be found HERE.
