North and South, but no Star.
Chicago falls into Dante’s hands. The six-year long dream becomes a reality, but it means nothing without Layla by his side. The war has ended, but peace failed to arrive.
Tormented by recent events, Dante struggles to choose a path while hatred keeps losing the battle with love. The mind cannot compete with the heart.
Stuck in a limbo, fueled by fear and memories of what she had lost, Layla hides from the wrath she knows is coming. Despite the outcome, regret is the last thing on her mind. If she could, she’d do it again. Hope is all she has left.
But hope is the mother of fools.
Ghosts of the past come back to haunt them both. Reality verifies their dreams when a new threat emerges - a race against time, death, and three million dollars.
There’s only one rule – there are no rules.

Read Broken Rules before reading this as its a continuation of the story and believe me you won’t wanna miss out of anything.

So I went to bed last night to read a few chapters, planning on reading the rest today. Well these characters had a different idea as I sat up until 3am totally engrossed in the story. I just couldn’t put it down.

As I read so much I sometimes need to read the end of a previous book to jog my memory. As soon as I read the characters name it all came flooding back.

Dante and Layla got under my skin. I was on the rollercoaster with them. I ached when they ached.

Sometimes I wanna slap a character when they go a certain way but I couldn’t with these two. The to-ing and fro-ing had me dizzy but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’m sad to see this story end as I loved the characters. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author soon.

missing finger

Spoilers:

I had a really hard time with this book because it starts off with zero mention of the missing finger from book 1(literally never mentioned again, what was the point in losing it?).

Like her cousin would let her go two weeks without mentioning why she showed up with an open wound that wasn’t properly treated literally missing a dinner.

I saw no point to Grace and the storyline with Jess was unforgivable and I felt like it was rushed over.

Perfect follow up to book 1. Dante and Layla face an unknown future. Scores to settle, skeletons come out of the closet and relationships never to be the same again. Kept me hooked from the start. 5 fabulous stars.

I received a free copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Second book of a duet.
After the amazing final we got in the first book, we continue with Dante and Layla's story.
There isn't a moment when something major isn't happening. Although the pace of the story slows down in some moments.
As the previous book, this one is full of action, surprises and of course passion.
This duet is pretty good, actually.

I was desperate to know more after book 1 so I jumped straight into book 2. Everything is so much more than book 1 and you are deep inside Dante's mind.

Layla is feisty and stands up for herself, she is tough, vulnerable and emotional and between them they go on an amazing journey.

I've loved being a part of the gangs' story and can't wait to read another book from I A Dice.

This book had me on edge the entire time I swear. So many twists and turns throughout. I loved every bit and soaked it all up. I aspire to have a relationship like Dante and Layla to be fair. He looks at her like no other woman in the world exists. The pain he feels throughout had me almost sobbing. I thoroughly enjoyed the series!

Not the best book. The first one was way better. The ending was too fast paced and I feel like the story never really finished.

- book 2 of 2 (must read book 1 first)
- Mafia
- Age gap
- Enemies to lovers
- Touch her you die vibes

So here I am back in the world of Dante and Layla and I couldn’t be happier.

One of the things I loved most is we are back nearly exactly where book 1 finished, we don’t miss a single tortured moment. In book one we undiscovered that Layla was sent to Dante by her father to take him down one way or the other. However she can’t do it, she plays it through right till the bitter end but when it comes to pulling that trigger she just can’t. She never intended to fall so deeply in love with him.

Dante of course is destroyed that she betrayed him, but he never doubts her love for him. That can’t be faked, she isn’t that good of a liar. He tried to hate her, forget about her but we all knew that was never going to happen.. a love and obsession that they have doesn’t just disappear. He is nothing without her, frank got what he wanted to take something he loves most but will Dante really sit back and let him win? Ha not a chance.

Only there is more trouble than just the fact he can’t find her.. not that he has started looking, yet!
They is an open hit on her, one last present from daddy dearest.
More secrets, more drama, more enemies and so much more.

This one was so much more emotional than book one, we truly see how much they love each other even when they are apart.

Will Dante really be able to stop everyone?
Will Layla ever forgive herself?
Can they have a second chance?
Or will it all be ripped away, before the end?

I wasn’t ready for this book to be finished. I would have enjoyed a wee be more of the after everything at the end but I’m greedy🥴

I really enjoyed this book. It’s definitely between four and five stars for me. I thought it was a great second book to the series, I really wish that there was going to be a third book. Just because I feel like this whole book, was really chaotic with trying to cancel the head on Layla. So I never really felt like we got to see them be normal and happy in this book. One thing that I really liked about the first book was getting to see their life together, especially when she would interact with the other girlfriends at the club. So I was a little disappointed that we didn’t get more of those interactions in this book. Obviously, I wish that there was going to be more books in the series, but I think a better end to this book would have been a couple more chapters where we got to see their life together after they got home from Russia. Just because after reading this whole series and they go through all these tumultuous times you want to see them be happy. When you think about it the last time that we were able to see them, happy together and be in some huge conflict, was like the middle of the first book.

My only issue with the book is that I wish that Dante would’ve been more mad at Layla. I mean, she completely betrayed him, and at the beginning of the book he did definitely seem mad. But once he ended up getting back together with her, he never seemed that upset about it. I don’t know maybe that makes him like really mature. But there’s just no way that he could’ve forgiven her and all of his men could forgive her.

I really feel like the second book would’ve been perfect if there was going to be a third book but I don’t think there is. I’m just kind of frustrated that I feel like I read the whole book which was really great but then at the end, I was kind of let down by not getting to see enough of them being happy. Because obviously, I really liked them together and I wanted them to be happy. So I would’ve loved to have seen more of that.

Again, I thought the writing of this book was really great, and there was a lot of substance to the plot other than just romance. And another thing that I really liked about this series is I feel like the whole plot made sense and crazy enough felt realistic. In my opinion, a lot of times in these kinds of books a lot of the plot seems like so crazy and far-fetched. And a lot of times there will be like a conflict at the end that seems to be resolved way to quickly. And is resolved in a way that seems very unlikely and just doesn’t make sense to the story and it’s entirety. But I didn’t feel that way about this book at all, I felt like a lot of the book was thought out really well. And I can tell that the author spent a lot of time, connecting the details and making it really well thought out.

I’m still just hoping for more books honestly from this universe, just because I feel like we learned so much about Dantes men and their girlfriends, and a lot of the backstory of organization, and the history of the other organizations. I just hope that we get to see more of it because it seems like there really is like so many other stories that could be told.

Random thoughts:

-I don’t really understand what the point of the new cleaner Grace was. It just seemed really random her character was added into the story, it makes me think that there’s going to be more books and maybe she’ll come up in the other ones. It was just so random when she would be talked about in the chapters, and honestly even more random in the end for her to try to hook up with Dante. I just didn’t really get it. Because it was obvious that she did not like Layla, but we didn’t even get to see them confront their issues. We also didn’t get to see Dante tell Layla about Grace kissing him. I actually really disliked the scene about Grace kissing him, because I know he was really drunk and being taken advantage of. But I really just didn’t think it was in his character to even kiss her back at all(I understand that in the story it says that he thought it was Layla for a second. But I really just don’t think he would do that).

-I liked the addition of the business partner from Russia being her father, I did feel like that twist was kind of spoonfed to us, so we knew it was coming. But I didn’t really have a problem with that. I liked how it gave a believable reason for why he was so willing to give up so much to help protect her. Back to what I said above, to me, this just proves that the story was really well thought out. Because I know, and a lot of other books, I’ve read a detail like that just wouldn’t have been explained. There would have been no explanation as to why a random business acquaintance to Dante was willing to give up so much for Layla.

-another interesting point of the story is that from what I can gather it seems to be set eight years before the book “breaking Hailey”. So I have a lot of questions about Dante and Layla. I would think after eight years they would definitely have kids, but they were not mentioned in this story. I’m really curious why the author decided to put eight years of difference in, just because then we haven’t met Carter in the original story. It makes me hopeful, that maybe some of the time between will be filled with other stories? It’s just an interesting choice because she could’ve easily written that story about one of Dantes other workers. But instead, there’s an eight year time jump, and a characters introduced to we didn’t know in the other series that is in the same universe.

-I think the reason why I really ended up liking this series was because Dante’s character was really unique and different. I’ve read a couple books that have mafia characters in them. And they’re normally all really similar like all have the same traits with just different names lol. But I feel like Dante was different, he had more of a sweet, nice personality. Opposed to people writing a character like him as hard and domineering. Sometimes he was like that, but he also had a nice side to him. Especially how he really respected Layla and let her speak her mind, even in front of people in his organization. Which I feel like he’s really unique in these mafia books. I also thought that Dantes leader ship style was interesting because he allowed people to question him, and they really worked as a team. While in other books, I feel like the main leader doesn’t let anyone question them, or give their opinion on a situation.

duology was okay. good writing - but the plot was kind of boring to me, not really sure what could be different specifically.

i liked the fmc more in the first book and i wish we saw better scenes of exactly why the fmc was traumatized from scenes in the first book and i wish we saw her healing but all i feel like happened was she got a bodyguard and the mmc tells her “it’s okay, you’re okay” but that’s about it.

she loses her spark because of her trauma so i wish we saw exactly how that was affecting her. also wish there were more scenes with dante’s “men” because all we read is that they are “relieved” she’s okay which is surprising to her. we also never see fmc reaction to their maid — a young girl dante took in to help her — kissing and trying to sleep with dante

a bit anticlimactic.

i had to drag myself through the second book but i found this series on tiktok and the line that drew me in was a good line — there’s that?

wont read again, i kind of already forgot the fmc name 🤓

Sadly, this was not a good sequel. I appreciated the anticipation building up to Dante and Layla reuniting but it was a bit of a let down seeing as he automatically forgave her. I didn't like that he immediately wanted her to be this badass, bad-mouth woman that he fell in love with. I didn't feel like she actually healed from the trauma she was put through. I do love that Dante is so devoted but the blow-up that they had was minuscule because of how much he refused to let her go again. Even though Layla appreciated being doted on in some ways she kept pushing boundaries to do what she wanted.

Anatolij being her father was a bit surprising and then it was made weird because her cousin was interested in her and in love with her. He didn't find out until the end that they could be nothing more. Killing Morte, who controlled the hit, was anticlimactic. Overall, this book felt disjointed to me because part of it wanted to continue as if Layla hadn't betrayed Dante.

Overload

This book gave me a migraine from frustration. Don’t get me wrong I devoured it in on sitting. But Layla frustrated TF outta me, the pages of repetitive dialogue from the 1st book was really too much and made me skip over page after page, and the whole new 17 year old maid with the weird relationship with Dante was so not needed and totally cringe. It made me madder than Layla getting shot. This book was full of angst and suspense, like one after the other. My blood pressure went sky high while reading this. I am totally disgruntled that we didn’t get more of the ending, it was rushed and the epilogue left much to be desired. We went through so much trauma then just got 2 minutes of happiness. Then bam the end.

And the saga ends.

The broken duet - broken rules and broken promises my babies.

It literally took me about two weeks to get over myself to write this review, because people deserve to know how amazing this duet is.

I’m a soul believer that everyone needs a Dante in their lives. He’s too perfect. And him and Layla definitely deserve each other.

After the events that occurred from broken rules. Layla is on a different path now, hiding out from Dante as she believes she betrayed him so much so that he would kill her.

Well everything he’s done so far says otherwise because my man’s was literally moping over her running from him more than the betrayal itself.

Layla.

I absolutely love her. She is such an astounding character, even after the betrayal she still had love for Dante and it was so sad to see her wither into herself and believe that he did want her dead, when that was far from the case.

Having a ranger on your back is a huge thing and Layla didn’t take it lightly either but she also didn’t allow it to stop her from living her life. A prime example of this is when she asked Julij for help and they ‘ snuck’ out to see Jess. She just wanted to see her mom and the hit wasn’t going to stop her.

But of course Dante was going to be protective of her cause I mean she already got shot once right.

He would do anything to protect her and Layla knows that.

Sending Layla off to Russia was a good decision to make even though it almost cost he her life. She was better off there than at greater a risk in Chicago where everyone knows she would be.

I knew I just knew that Julij’s uncle had to be Layla’s father. Ughh and coming to find that out I was behind happy because he treated her how a daughter should be treated by her father.
He was kind and patient and honestly wanted to know her. Unlike Frankie.
Daughter or not he was a monster to and a vindictive and vile manipulator to a young girl be raised under his arms.

So having Julij’s uncle care for not just her but her mother. It’s like having a stable family one that she always craved for with love, affection and attention.

It was so funny to me realising that Julij was actaully her cousin but then I felt bad because he is in love with his cousin and that doesn’t just go away after finding out mere moments ago your related which would make it all the more weirder for him.
But at least Dante is more than pleased that he is finally forced to move on from his woman.

Omg when Layla got shot I kid you not my heart skipped a beat or two. Those few chapters were the longest of my life.
Omg and Dante’s reaction, I was sobbing out the River Liffey here. I was bewildered and shocked and even more so due to Dante’s reaction his whole world tilted on its axis and gosh had that been the worst of wrist moment of his life.

Julij slapping some sense back into him to hear him out that Laylas heart was back up and running again. Was a Kickstarter for me too. Cause I mean I was feeling the pressure alongside Dante. And of course Dr. Carrow the best in his showbiz yet. He knew what he came to do and he showed up with nothing less than perfection because Layla’s alive, well and breathing.

Dante having the minutes and time imbedded in his head right before he killed off Mr. What’s his name. Was honestly impressive- impressive as in. That’s all he could think about and god forbid if he lost Layla he would rain hell on it as we know it.

I love every single one of these characters and it’s pretty goddam hard not to I mean they all bring something to the table. Layla’s cousin was way too funny and being a relationship with one of Dante’s men. Tied them even more as the moved to Chicago.
I also adored the last couple of chapters and the epilogue.
I swear Dante was on his last nerve ending. And the epilogue was beautiful. Both Layla and Dante deserve to spend the rest of their lives together- in peace and Dante ensured that by Lessening his role as the Boss of Chicago.
I loved that decision.

I’ve eaten up this duet in every way possible and it feels so upsetting to close the that chapter now that I’m done both books- which I’ll be re-reading all the friggin time. This book is beautiful in every single aspect there is to think about and I wouldn’t recommend you a book more than the broken duet. It deserves all the hype it’s getting and will get. Cause everyone sure is missing out.

Anyways all love from Ireland 🇮🇪.

Okay, where can I find myself a Dante?

I.A hit this one out of the park! Book two ramps up with the twists and turns, betrayal, vengeance, dirty talk, and drama and it was AMAZING! I was completely hooked from page one, and basically read this book in one sitting, who needs sleep anyway?

Dante and Layla were both even more incredible than they were in the first book. I loved seeing the little things Dante changes in himself to be a better man for Layla *swoon*, and Layla is just as strong-willed and feisty as ever but shows us a more vulnerable side which is so endearing to see.

Can I also just say Dante in the hospital was gut-wrenching, I.A wrote these chapters beautifully - I was completely in the moment with the characters and it was heartbreaking.

I honestly don't know what else to say, I am so happy I.A reached out because this duet was so worth it! If in doubt give it a go, you won't regret it! Dante and Layla's story deserves it. Now to convince I.A for more from these two... pretty please!

5 STARS
“Time is limited, but love is timeless.”
Broken Promises is book two in the Broken duet by I.A. Dice! I have been on pins and needles waiting for this book to release. Ever since reading Broken Rules, I have been completely wrapped up in the world of Dante Carrow and Layla Harston! This is a duet so the books need to be read in order, so if you haven’t already, grab Broken Rules now, this one is a MUST READ!! If you follow me you already know that right after dark reads, mafia reads are on my TOP favorite tropes list! I am so glad I took a chance on this new-ish author!

When the war between two sides came to its final stand, Layla was left standing in the middle. The choice was her’s to make. Her father or Dante, the man she’s in love with.

Layla chooses Dante.

But once the full extent of her betrayal is brought to light, afraid of the possible repercussions, Layla runs.

Dante was crippled when he found out that Layla had betrayed him. Although still completely in love with her, she ran and he is trying his damndest not to hunt her down. Dante makes the choice to let her stay gone. It’s for the best anyway, right?
“I fought against my heart, and brain, wanting to hate her for what she did. But I couldn’t hate her. Not for a second, not in the slightest.”
But when a hit is placed on Layla’s head, everything else takes a backseat, Dante is bringing his girl home.
“Layla in danger was the only thing that could get me from calm to all-out petrified in a matter of seconds.”

But bringing Layla home with him causes new issues to arise. In order for Dante to stay focused on finding the promoter who’s in control of the payout, as well as taking out every hitman that comes for her, he makes the choice to send her to Russia with Julij and Antolija.

But what happens when Layla finds that Antolija is keeping secrets of his own…

With a three million dollar hit on her head can Dante protect his girl?

You’ll have to check out Broken Promises to find out!!!

This duet has been amazing! The edge of your seat suspense, twists, and secrets around every corner, a sexy overprotective mafia man, AND a sassy heroine, I love it! The plot isn’t your typical mafia book which I really appreciate. As much as I loved the main characters there is also an awesome set of secondary character as well, and a couple of them that I would LOVE to see get their own books!

Gahhh I am obsessed with Dante! Seriously, if you like the bad boy/anti-hero guys who are totally overprotective and overbearing but yet still lovable and sweet to his girl, then you will LOVE Dante Carrow! Dante is just as protective over Layla as he was in book one, only now with the target on her back his overprotectiveness knows no bounds.
“Fucking Prince Charming with a gun and a drug empire.”

Layla gosh that girl, although she's a little reckless and hard-headed (just the way I like her lol) I still see a lot of growth from her since Broken Rules. She has a hard exterior because of her childhood but when she’s with Dante… *sigh* 😍

These two and their love has been tested every step of the way but they have continued to come out the other side, together against all odds. The banter between them I absolutely love. Especially when Layla disobeys Dante, which she does every chance she gets! The passion between these two, who started off as sworn enemies, is absolutely sizzling. But above all, my favorite part is just how much Dante loves Layla. With every word, and every thought from him you are never wondering about his feelings for her.
“I couldn’t hate her. I could only love her with everything I had.”
HOLY CRAP, there was most definitely a twist in the story I did NOT see coming! But then that ending… *sigh* I can’t even talk about it because I don’t want to post spoilers BUT I will say, there is a happy ending… one way or another! 😘

Gahhh, I’ve said it once but I HAVE to say it again, I am so glad I took a chance on this author! These days I don’t take as many chances on unknown authors as I used to ( I’m working on changing that) but this is one of those times that it really paid off! I.A. Dice came up with a killer plot, and her writing from book one to book two has excelled as well! And with the teaser of another story at the end of the book, I am really excited to see what comes next for this author!

I highly recommend checking out the Broken duet, Broken Rules, and Broken Promises.

“Don’t stare at my ass.”
“Stop swaying your hips.”

“Goodnight, Dante.”
“Goodnight, Star.”

Broken Rules starts right away in a scene. That will always grab my attention. Instantly I was feeling, it was vivid, I could feel the cold chill, and Layla’s inner turmoil. Layla is Frankie Harston’s daughter, mafia boss to North Chicago.

When she ends up in Dante Carrow’s club, mafia boss to South Chicago, sparks ignite. Their banter made me smile, it was fun, romantic, and dangerous. Enemies and yet they can’t fight what is developing between them.

Dante is described as “a fascinated psycho.” So you are saying he is my type right?

Things are in motion, what I thought was at play takes a surprising twist, and again how that revelation was written was really cool. The author really does throughout the book, immerse us in the scenes to experience the shock, heartbreak, and their love.

Layla is beautiful and feisty, vulnerable, and honestly has not have genuine love growing up. Strong on the outside and inside haunted by her panic. Dante is hot and a boss, loyal to Layla, and a surprise. His impulses are always to kiss her, touch her, love on her, to show her. He is so damn sexy through out the book, even when he has to kill.

Broken Promises had my heart jumping all over the place. Trying not to give anything away! We find out what was really at play, which is bigger than what Layla and Dante had thought.

Being immersed in scenes again, this one had more action, more heartbreak, but all of it was worth it, because their love made my pulse quicken.

“Where are you baby?” I whisper into thin air.

“You can’t possible think you’ll kill everyone who tries their luck.” Watch me.

She chose love, to leave everything she knew behind for a man that was considered the enemy in the eyes of everyone she held dear. She thought it was the right path, that it would bring her happiness, but she didn't account on the secrets she held to derail everything. Now she finds herself stuck in an impossible situation, between two men who'd take her life if it meant keeping theirs intact, the only solution here is to run. So she does... but not far enough. A hit has been placed on her head, and there's no one to save her... or is there?

The pages of Broken Promises picked up right where Broken Rules left off and it didn't take me long to fall deeply back into this dark and dangerous world. I had to know how things would fall into place for this couple and I will say it wasn't an easy journey for either of them. Their love for one another took a backseat to hurt and betrayal and it was evident early on that a happily ever after wasn't going to come easy. Not to mention that there was danger lurking over their shoulders the whole way through.

I loved the conclusion to this duet, it's perfectly constructed words kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through! Just when I thought things were calming down another twists would be added to the mix and I'd be left rattled all over again. It was quite the spellbinding tale!! This one is definitely going to be a hit with mafia romance lovers!! Highly recommend!!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

READ BOOK 1 BEFORE READING THIS ONE
Mafia Romance✅
Age Gap✅
Enemies to Lovers✅

Plot 4.5✨
Spice 3🌶️

Making the decision that would change her whole life wasn't as hard as Layla thought it would be. Now living with the outcome of that decision is another story. The pain she feels is indescribable, but she has no one to blame but herself. Living in fear that the one person she wants more than life itself is coming for her, coming to seek his revenge is the punishment she thinks she deserves.

Who knew the organ in his chest that Layla awakened would be the one organ Dante can't get control over again? He wants to hate her, no he needs to hate Layla in order to move forward with his life. He now has full control of Chicago which is what he wanted but he wanted it with his star by his side.

Layla was correct in thinking that someone was coming for her, and they have found her.
Can Dante find her in time to protect her?
With all the trust broken between them can Layla and Dante learn to trust again in time to fight everything coming for them?

Being book 2 in a duet I was already invested in this story before I read page one. This book had more action or what I called "Mafia-ness" in it than the first one. I don't want to say much about this book because I don't want to spoil everything from the first one. I will say this I loved watching Layla grow and find her true self again after the ending of book one. Just like book one, there are plot twist in this book that will keep you guessing if what you know is the truth or not.

Why do all authors do this? Seriously, I'm curious.
This book had so much potential since I loved the first book of the duet, but Ia Dice rushed the whole book and I felt like she did not even want to write it.
UGH

OKAY OKAY I'M CALM

Newsflash- I'm not😭
First of all, Dante hesitating about Layla, wtf? 2 whole weeks he doesn't even seek her out after she runs away. Like if there wasn't a hit on her would he even have gone back to her or moved on???????
Not only that, but after Dante finds her suddenly Jean just disappears and never asks about Layla's well-being ever again
Also, where is Layla's missing finger, or was I hallucinating when I read Broken Rules???
Julij turns out to be Layla's cousin ugh I'm so done, why did they have to ruin this book
GRACE UM HELLO? Why is no one talking about how the new maid whom Dante gave a job, because he pitied her, kissed him when Layla was in Russia??? Not only that, but she also never finds out about it
I might skin this Grace bitch alive 🔪 🔪👹
Because if we are going to tolerate Dante getting kissed by Grace I at least expected Julij to kiss Layla, so it's even😐
The end was so bad like nothing is discussed and it just finishes and I'm fuming
Books like these anger me more than anything in the world like either finish the book well or don't at all write!!!!
Also if you're hoping that Dante said I love you, I'm sorry to disappoint but he did only like once or twice
Layla should have ended up with Julij, Dante's a bitch🥱

Anyways, I'm so over this
