Miley Cyrus reveals she’s six months sober after years of admitted drug use and hard partying
MILEY Cyrus has revealed she is six months sober after years of hard-partying and drug use.
The Party In The USA singer underwent vocal chord surgery in November and has revealed that she at first went sober to focus on her recovery.
However, she shared that she began looking at her family's past and thinking about her own future, and revealed that she loves "waking up 100%, 100% of the time."
Miley said: "I’ve been sober sober for the past six months. At the beginning, it was just about this vocal surgery.
"But I had been thinking a lot about my mother. My mom was adopted, and I inherited some of the feelings she had, the abandonment feelings and wanting to prove that you’re wanted and valuable.
"My dad’s parents divorced when he was three, so my dad raised himself."
She continued: "I did a lot of family history research, which has a lot of addiction and mental health challenges.
"So just going through that and asking, 'Why am I the way that I am?' By understanding the past, we understand the present and the future much more clearly. I think therapy is great."
The 27-year-old admitted however that being sober at a young age is "really hard" due to a stigma of being no fun.
But, speaking to Variety's Big Ticket podcast, she argued: "It’s like, 'honey, you can call me a lot of things, but I know that I’m fun.'

"The thing that I love about it is waking up 100%, 100% of the time. I don’t want to wake up feeling groggy. I want to wake up feeling ready."
Miley's decision to be sober comes after she divorced husband Liam Hemsworth after over 10 years together.
Miley is now living with new boyfriend, Cody Simpson, with the pair quarantining together during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The pair - who have been friends for years - first began romancing each other in late 2019, and have been self-isolating together in Los Angeles.
