Top 10 lists, bless their hearts, are subjective to an obvious fault: I didn’t see everything, because no one could, so there will surely be omissions beyond taste and reason that deserve some love. That said, subjectivity is part of the fun, so disagree away. In no particular order — except for the first one, which I loved like no other — here are the 10 best things I saw around New England this year.

1. Huma Bhabha: They Live, ICA

2. Hyman Bloom: Matters of Life and Death, MFA

3. Nature’s Nation, PEM

4. Sanford Biggers, Tufts University Art Gallery

6. Howardena Pindell: What Remains to Be Seen, Rose Art Museum

7. Crossing Lines, Constructing Home, Harvard Art Museums

8. Collecting Stories: Native American Art, MFA

9. Janet Cardiff, Forty Part Motet, Clark Art Institute

10. Trenton Doyle Hancock, Mind of the Mound: Critical Mass, Mass MoCA
