SEATTLE -- Homicide detectives are investigating after a worker fell to his death Sunday morning at a downtown Seattle business.

Police say someone called 911 at about 8 a.m. Sunday to say an employee had died at a business in the 1900 block of Fifth Avenue.

Police say it appears the victim fell to his death. In a Sunday morning tweet, the Seattle Fire Department said the victim fell roughly 30 feet down an elevator shaft.

The dead man is Chris Kitzhaber, 48, his family said. He leaves behind a widow, three children and grandchildren.

His brother Jeremy Kitzhaber said Christ Kitzhaber moved with his family to the Seattle area from California three weeks ago to work for Avis.

The family used the money it had to move to Seattle and doesn't have money for the funeral. It has set up a Gofundme page to help the family. You can go the Gofundme page here.

Investigators have not said if anything about the fall seems suspicious, but homicide detectives are investigating the death.

Both the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will also be investigating, according to police.
