Posted: September 8, 2019 |
The cat is finally out of the bag. After much speculation, it has now been officially confirmed that the Tata 45X hatchback, which made its debut as a concept at the Auto Expo 2018 in February last year, will be sold as Tata Altrose. Tata's most premium small car will be introduced in the B2-segment, where it will rival the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz. All of the above rivals have a good chance of offering a strong fight of Altroz. Here, we have compared it with the Maruti Baleno to find out how it stacks up against the best-selling model in the segment. Read on for a comparison of our Tata Ultraz vs Maruti Baleno: Tata Ultraz vs Maruti Baleno - Design At the Auto Expo 2018, previewed by the Tata 45X concept, the Tata Altroz, a production model, will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month. The new model will carry the company's Impact 2.0 design language, which will make it quite bold and striking. So far we have seen many spy images, Altroz will be smaller in size than 45X. This is because the concept was built on average larger than the B2-segment hatchback to highlight the flexibility of the Alpha Arc platform on that basis. However, it will retain many of the concept's design features. It will have a similar face, but will have a wire mesh grille instead of a closed panel, a smaller and a different set of alloy wheels, and pilar-mounted door handles for the rear. The Maruti Baleno Uti Liquid Flow is based on the design language, which leads to many smooth lines and a design that is bold and modern but still soft on the eyes. The Baleno looks modern and the recently introduced facelift also makes it slightly bolder than before. Maruti's B2-segment hatchback even has hints of the Mercedes A-Class, as it is considered quite sporty by many. And if you take the Baleno RS in the picture, things get even hotter, with a sporty body kit and a wire mesh grille. We can't give a decision of which one looks better, but what we do know is that Altroz won't be able to look ugly compared to the Baleno. However, the fact that the production-spec 45X will be a fresher car will work in its favor. Tata Ultraz vs Maruti Baleno - Interior Comparison Several spy images have already revealed that the interiors of Tata Altroz. When going through these pics, the dashboard will look a lot, which you can find on the Harrier. While it misses some of the premium features the Harrier comes in, it will surely impress everyone with the same design. The highlight will be a floating-type touchscreen infotainment unit that will support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In addition, the Speedo console will be a semi-digital unit similar to the Harrier. The steering wheel will be a three-spoke flat-bottom unit that should be sporty enough to hold. So far, spy images have revealed features such as push-button start, an adjustable steering, automatic climate control and steering-mounted controls. Instead of the slide switches that Harrier offered for volume switches and track changes, traditional buttons are available. It is not certain that the new model will come with cruise control. Maruti Baleno has received the SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment unit with the launch of the facelift. It also gets refresh trim and revised speedo console which looks slightly sportier than before. The Baleno also gets features such as push-button start, an adjustable steering, automatic climate control and steering mounted controls. The Baleno does not have a rear AC vent, which is not a bad thing as the AC is quite powerful. It is not known whether Altroz ??will offer this feature. However, as has happened with every Tata model, it will offer a spacious cabin that can be more spacious than the Baleno. Tata Ultraz vs Maruti Baleno - Engine, Specs and Performance The Tata Altroz ??will likely be sold with a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine and a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, with the latter coming to Nexon. Both engines are expected to be available with a manual transmission and the company is likely to offer an all-new dual-clutch automatic transmission option on the petrol variant. Apart from this, the petrol engine can also have a lighter-hybrid setup similar to Maruti's SHVS. It is too soon to comment on specs but as usual, Tata is likely to introduce segment-leading figures. The Maruti Baleno is available in three engine options - 1.2-liter petrol, 1.0-liter turbo-petrol, and 1.3-liter turbo-diesel. All engines come with a 5-speed manual transmission. Additionally, the Baleno is available with CVT. The naturally aspirated petrol engine provides a maximum power of 84 PS and peak torque of 115 Nm. The diesel engine delivers 75 PS and 190 Nm, while the turbocharged petrol engine produces a maximum power of 101 PS and peak torque of 150 Nm. Considering how much we know so far about Tata Altroz, it would not be fair to give our verdict on the winner of our Tata Altroz vs Maruti Baleno. However, it certainly looks like the Maruti Baleno is going to get a really strong competitor from Tata Motors.
