UNM Seal Call for Design Submissions

The Board of Regents of the University of New Mexico (“UNM”), the UNM President, and the UNM Seal Committee, are pleased to announce the UNM Seal Call for Design Submissions, a request for original designs for consideration to become the next University Seal. By submitting a design, you agree to abide by all of the requirements, terms, and conditions contained within this UNM Seal Call for Design Submissions (henceforth “Terms and Conditions”).

Project Intent/Theme:

The UNM Seal Committee is seeking design submissions for a new official seal that represents the past, present and future of The University of New Mexico. Founded in 1889, UNM sits on the traditional homelands of the Pueblo of Sandia. The original peoples of New Mexico – Pueblo, Navajo, and Apache Tribes – have significant connections to the land and the broader community statewide. UNM is the state’s flagship institution and one of only a dozen Hispanic-Serving Institutions in the United States. UNM is also classified by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education as an R1: Doctoral Universities with very high research activities and includes the Health Sciences Center, the state’s only integrated health care treatment, research, and education organization, and the UNM School of Law.

A university seal is not a logo, but an official mark that is used on official insignia, diplomas, Presidential medallions, and other official documents. University seals are often circular in form, with imagery that can be considered representative of a University. Representations can be, for example, symbolic, scenic, abstract, architectural, or figurative. Designs that reflect UNM’s academic mission or the histories and futures of New Mexico’s flagship institution that also celebrate the many cultures which coexist within the state are optimal. For UNM’s mission, see http://www.unm.edu/welcome/mission.html).

University Communications & Marketing (UCAM) will conduct information session(s) on October 4th at 10am and October 8th at 6pm at the Student Union Building to provide submitters guidance and best practices for designing a university seal: http://diverse.unm.edu/about-dei/seal-committee.html.The first session will be recorded and made available on the website.
