Other Site Characteristics

The Beloye Lake is oligo-mesotrophic reservoir with unique flora. There are formed vast thickets of two species of quillwort: Isoetes lacustris and Isoetes setacea. This is the lake with very clean and transparent (to the bottom) water with weak acid violent reaction (pH is lower than 6.5). In terms of nutrients content the lake is mesotrophic with the oligotrophy characteristics (very poor in nutrients). The lake is low flow, one brook flows out of it. The littoral shelf is formed from clean sand, the shores are sandy.

4.2 Quality and importance

So far two species of quillwort have been registered only in the lake Beloye (Azino). The lake is used as recreation site, where the regime is restricted. Environmental protection and restrictions of economic activities are regulated according to the Water Code of Belarus (No 149-3 of April 30, 2014).
