The Expanse is getting expanded.

Syfy has renewed the sci-fi drama for a 13-episode third season, the network announced Thursday. The pick-up comes in the midst of the series’ second season, which airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET.

The Expanse is a gorgeous, thrilling, emotional series that has quite simply raised the bar for science fiction on television,” said Chris McCumber, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment’s president of entertainment networks. “We, along with the fans, are looking forward to continuing the journey with our partners at Alcon Television Group and the series’ brilliant cast and crew.”

Based on the series of New York Times bestselling novels from Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, Expanse is set 200 years in the future, where the solar system has been colonized. The Syfy drama stars Steven Strait, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Dominique Tipper, Cas Anvar, Wes Chatham, and Frankie Adams.

A few weeks ago, the show said a shocking goodbye to a major character. Go here to see the reaction from the departed star and rest of the cast.
