Haryana: Woman forces deaf and mute daughter into prostitution for money

A 20-year-old deaf and dumb girl in Haryana's Panchkula has alleged that she was forced into prostitution by her mother.

Panchkula: A woman in Panchkula, Haryana has been arrested for forcing her daughter into the flesh trade. The deaf and dumb girl has claimed that she was forced to become a prostitute by her mother. The accused was remanded in one-day custody and was produced before a court on Sunday. 

The accused has been identified as Mamta Bajaj. During interrogation, Mamta Bajaj confessed to the crime and said that it was the lack of money that prompted her into forcing her daughter to take up prostitution. 

According to the woman, she has been divorced. Sub-inspector Vandana, investigating officer of the case said, "She (the accused woman) said that she and her husband are divorced, though we have not been able to substantiate it yet. We are still inquiring into the matter. "

The survivor and her brother used to stay with Mamta Bajaj while Bajaj's husband used to stay in Sonipat. He said that he had been staying away from his family due to work. According to a report, the 20-year-old girl used to cry whenever she talked to her father on a video call. Worried about his daughter, he decided to take her to a hospital on his visit to Panchkula. 

The incident came to light after the girl was taken to the Civil Hospital in Panchkula on Friday. The girl's father, uncle and aunt were accompanying her. The family of the 20-year-old girl said that she had been "sexually violated".  

The doctors in the Sukoon wing (centre meant for the victims of sexual assault) of the hospital examined the girl and counselled her. The police were also informed about the incident. Meanwhile, the survivor told the doctors that she was forced into prostitution. She expressed herself using sign language. 

The survivor told the doctors that she met her clients in hotels. She said that she was beaten up by her mother if she refused to meet the customers. The statement of the 20-year-old survivor was recorded by officials deployed at the women's police station. 

In her statement, the survivor said that she was sent to two hotels and was sexually assaulted by seven people. During interrogation, the girl's six-year-old brother said that a lot of uncles used to visit their residence. It is being suspected that these uncles were clients who were called by the survivor's mother. The cops also registered a case at the Sector 5 police station. The case has now been transferred to Derabassi police.
