Owner disqualified over rude horse name

The crude naming of a filly has landed an owner in hot water after its meaning wasn't lost in translation with Racing NSW stewards.

Stuart Ruse, a managing owner of a Benfica x Loose ‘n’ Lovely filly, was slapped with an 18-month disqualification by stewards on Thursday after being found guilty of two charges relating to the naming of the three-year-old.

The filly made her debut on September 4 at Newcastle under the name 'Andiamo Fica' which translated from Italian to English means 'Let’s Go C*nt'.

She was registered with Racing Australia back in February.

The managing owner was charged and found guilty of conduct prejudicial to the interests and/or image of racing, with stewards alleging Mr Ruse was aware of the English translation when he submitted the application.

Stewards also found him guilty of providing false evidence on Thursday in claiming he was unaware of the rude translation.

Mr Ruse had pleaded not guilty to both charges.

In making their assessment of the penalty, stewards took into consideration the seriousness of the charges and the need to deter others from engaging in such conduct.

He was handed a 12-month disqualification for both charges, with six months of the second charge to be served concurrently.

Mr Ruse has been advised of his rights to appeal while the filly has already had her name changed to Andiamo Miss.

It seems controversy has followed the filly.

She has a current suspension for poor performance following her debut run at Newcastle when finishing last beaten 10.75L and is required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards before racing again.

Meanwhile her trainer Ben Smith was this week suspended following a raid by stewards of his Newcastle stable.

Smith has applied for a stay of proceedings, but his stable stars In Her Time and El Dorado Dreaming have already been transferred to Kris Lees.

To register a horse you have to submit 7 names, so why the hell that name slipped through the AJC?, but did the owners know just what the translation meant?, I don’t think so.
knuxs83
WTF 18 months for poorly named horse. Are they serious. Tossers
Experience63
Absolute Nonsense type the words in your translator on your computer it comes out
" LETS GO PUSSY " now if you rememeber the brand GO CAT tinned food for cats .... Lets go cat...... very clever name.... because I have called out before " Go you Cat " before and so has my brother, its common in racing when a horse doesnt perform you call it out, at your local TAB or the racecourse. Get over yourselves race officials.... he didnt call it PORT and PUSSY or something pornographic like.

flukedit yeah there as I lost on it ,but thats the wayanka of it ???
spacebar
the common sense rule applies here - the owners should never have submitted the name

Stewards australia wide are SLACK, Look at the charges Ben Currie is on, but still allowed to race horses in Qld.
At least NSW stewards don`t let him race horses in NSW.
The same standard should be applied Australia wide.
tony63
WOW , so severe. Does the NSW racing Stewarts get time for allowing it to happen!!! Noooooo , just like Government!!!

I believe there’s a horse called fica gal. It ran on Thursday
Tigersnake
I wanted to register a horse called Phar Queue,,,
Genevieve
Serves the owner right - very poor behaviour which adds nothing to the good name of horse racing. If you are lucky enough to have a beautiful racehorse then have the good sense to give it a decent name.

I think the horse Pujhols is named after the baseball player Albert Pujhols.
sunline02
Smith obviously hadn't given this one the magic juice yet.

There was a horse getting around named pujhols..was fantastic listening to the race caller say that name during a race 😂😂😂😂

It's good to have a laugh about these things but let's cut it back to basics. 18 months for a bit of obscene language (tack on the attempted cover up) versus dead set 'hook jobs' that go on every day of the week where 99% of the time nothing ever happens and at best all the aggrieved punter might see from time to time is a jock get a 6 week suspension for what they would have us believe is simply a poorly judged ride. Even the coppers don't lock you up anymore for using obscene language because they realise there are bigger fish to try. About time some of these no hoper stewards came to the same conclusion. F*ck Me !!!

Remember "Richard Cranium" years ago.
Everybody knew exactly what that meant and it raced every Saturday metropolitan for ever it seemed.
Not to mention it was a stayer so you heard it plenty in every race call

There is a dog currently racing in QLD named "Willy Toula". I don't know the trainer or the owner so I can't say for sure if the name means something legitimate. The dog is sired by "Izy Fast". Now say "Willy Toula" reasonably quickly whilst thinking about the sire's name and you can't help but come up with "Will He Tool Her." Coincidence or just cleverly named? Can anyone enlighten me?

For those of you who think that Mr Ruse is a jolly good fellow for slipping one past the authorities, let me remind you of the Australian Rule of Racing AR18 that is clear for all owners to see and is their duty to abide by. It states that: "The Registrar may refuse to register any name which for any reason he/she may deem undesirable. The Registrar may cancel any horse's registered name for whatever reason he/she deem necessary."
Note that he has also been charged with giving false evidence. There's a four letter word for that too...l**r. This is not about a bit of harmless larrikinism; this is crude and calculated mischief and is does, as the Four Corners programme rightly or wrongly pointed out, put racing in a shadowy light.
swampy1951
Sydney trainer Geoff Chapman had a good filly called Merkin many years back. Someone eventually twigged and he was forced to rename her. She won a Silver Slipper as Giostra.

Who remembers the Voetsek drama from 25 odd years ago?

Here's what sensibly should have happened with this case (and would have occurred with little to no comment decades ago): Having missed it at naming time, stewards learn of horse's name, deem it unacceptable, contact connections discreetly and advise them to change name ASAP. Problem fixed, no fuss. (If owner refuses, horse is banned from starting until name is changed). This is the (racing) world we used to live in; pretty easy, don't you think?

I just had a real read of the charge, I reckon he has got a great chance of getting off and really stcking it to the establishment.

Not pretending to solicit but I reckon even if he knew the translation it is ultimately the responsibility of RISA to accept/deny the name.
The warnings around names given to owners when filling in a naming application are vague at best.

Offensive names is subjective at best and disqualifying this owner has probably put Racing Nsw right in the gun for a massive damages payout.
hazard11
There's a horse going around atm called my luck is many translate that in Greek and it means a female pleasuring herself lol they have missed that 1
FlyingHooves
Brilliant, ban the guy because he had a "tongue in cheek" go at the system.

That's the way, send him and his money elsewhere.

Just remember Racing Nsw when Winx is turning out dud foals (just like Makybe & BC) you will be looking for owners.
CDJames
Had a horse in NZ a few years back called Little Miss Milf that had a couple of starts before the authorities realised what a milf was
cauthen
You have to submit 3 names, why did they give him that one, unproffesional
Angi996
isn't it the person who receives the applications to make sure they aren't rude ? lack of judgement and not doing their job properly LOL so are they going to get banned from their job without pay for 12 months ? It's their job to be on top of these things
takeovertarget05
BIG CLINT, LITTLE FLICKA
catfishmick
With the huge amount of egg on the stewards faces some one had to pay. Why not just inform the owner the name is unacceptable/unavailable. They do this constantly when owners submit names. Absolute joke what they have done to this owner regardless if he knew or not. Sour grapes. Very unprofessional. Hope he appeals.
whatsinaname
well done stewards. the right decision. ignore the ill informed narks
Looney49
Racing NSW have been doing so many good things lately then they go do something like this which defies belief. Show some common sense and handle it with a handshake and a sorry for the misunderstanding
sagyopants
Haha love it

These stewards never cease to amaze, maybe give life to the guy that gave it the green light unless of course it was a 5 yr old.

Surely the naming police should have typed it into google before passing the name.... owner probably got the shock of his life when it came back as a goer!
