A Montgomery County Police officer was shot in a parking garage in downtown Silver Spring on Monday. Montgomery County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 35 says the officer, who they have identified as 13-year veteran Thomas J. Bomba, is dead.

He leaves behind a wife and two young children.

ABC7 has several crews on the scene, in the area of Ellsworth Drive and Fenton Street.

Montgomery County Police gave the following update at 2:30 p.m.:

Investigators have no lookout or description of any suspects. The case is being treated as a homicide, though there is no immediate threat to public safety, police say.

"We are seeking assistance from the public for anyone who may have witnessed any disorderly behavior around the garage area of downtown Silver Spring," acting police chief Marcus Jones said at a Monday afternoon press conference. He also requests that anyone who had any contact with Bomba Monday morning contact police.

Investigators are working to get nearby security camera footage, and footage from Bomba's body camera.

"To say this is all hands on deck is an understatement," a Montgomery County Police Department captain told ABC7.

According to an update from police given shortly after 10 a.m., the injured officer called out on radio about a disorderly subject in the parking garage at approximately 8:49 a.m. and was found suffering from a gunshot wound by another responding officer. After police secured the scene, crews evaluated and transported him to Washington Hospital Center, where he died.

When reporters at the afternoon press conference asked if Officer Bomba’s fatal injuries were self-inflicted, Acting Chief Jones said investigators are looking into all options.

This is a developing story that will be updated .
