120Hz without DisplayPort or DVI?

So I recently bought an ASUS VG248QE monitor that's supposed to support 144Hz. However, I have been using an HDMI cable and haven't been able to get above about 87Hz using Intel's graphic settings. I am wondering if I can even get 144Hz/120Hz at all with my current setup. I use the Dell Inspiron 17 7000 series, which does not have a DVI port or a DisplayPort on it. I have also updated all of my drivers. I noticed some people saying that HDMI will work with 120Hz, which I would be willing to settle for, but I can't get above 87Hz without an "Out Of Range" error on the monitor. I'm not sure what to do, do I just need a new computer with a DVI port or DisplayPort?

Or some sort of EGPU, but imho they are a waste of resources unless the laptop is designed to support one and your Dell isn't.
