Mainer shot by cop released from hospital and arrested

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A Maine man shot by an Augusta police officer is free on bail after being arrested upon his release from a hospital.

Police say Robert Farrington was charged with assault and cruelty to animals in Fairfield for an incident that preceded the police confrontation early on Nov. 24.

The 27-year-old from Augusta also was charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon for the armed confrontation in which he was shot.

Kennebec County Jail officials said Farrington was freed after posting $5,810 bail Wednesday night. Jail officials didn’t have paperwork indicating whether he had a lawyer. A phone number for Farrington could not be located.
