Imperfect Hearts #3

Someone Like You

Rate this book
Dorian Anson is my friend. She’s the only person who’s ever questioned my smiles. My jokes. The one liners that have our friends shaking their heads at me. I’ve lived my life on those smiles. Thy never failed me, until her.

I wasn’t counting on her when I designed my front. I never imagined the possibility of someone like her coming into my life.

She was the girl with the beautiful soul, pretty face and whole heart. But hearts aren’t made to stay whole.

I watched hers break. I watched her tears fall. I watched as her world tilted on its axis and shattered at her feet.

This girl.

She sees me, all parts of me—the truths I try to hide, the secrets I bury. What’s mine and what’s not.

She sees it all, and I can only hope that the truth isn’t too much. That she won’t walk away.

That she won’t leave me…alone.

We both have a past. We have ghosts. We have fears.

I’m hoping that somehow in the end, we’ll have each other too.

I’ve never needed anyone before her, and I know I’ll never want anyone else after her.

There is no one like her.

My pretty girl.

Dorian.

There’s nothing better than when a story and its characters gives me tingles and goosebumps all over. Jake and Dorian aka Dorke did that to me. Delicious and swoon worthy tingles. From head to toe. Ever since reading No One But You and For You I’ve been pumped and excited to read Dorian and Jake’s story. From those two books I knew they had a good story that needed to be told and amazing chemistry. Alexandra Silva exceeded my expectations with Someone Like You. She literally blew me away!

Even though Someone Like You can be read as a standalone I recommend reading the two previous books. For me it meant I had a stronger connection and love for the characters. Not only Dorian and Jake but the others as well. Jamie, Quincy, Willow and their families. It’s a wonderful ensemble of characters that truly defines what the word family and love stands for.
It’s a beautiful journey following Dorian and Jake taking their friendship to the next level. The issues that comes with exploring a new relationship when their pasts is filled with losses and pain. They handle it like the adults that they’re are which I really like and appreciate. No over the top or unnecessary drama.

Dorian and Jake are pretty damn amazing. Their chemistry is insane. Off the charts. I reveled in every scene, every word they shared cause their connection and history spoke volumes. All thanks to the author. She let the characters shine where they are best. I knew that Dorian is a fabulous heroine from the other books but with SLY I fell even more in love with her. Jake just made my ovaries explode. With his every word and his actions. His love for Dorian and her boy Daniel made my heart sing. This series is all about the characters. Their dynamics. It’s about family, love and friendships.

What can I say except this is Alexandra Silva’s best book yet. While reading SLY I was constantly in a bubble filled with love and I can’t think of a better place to be when reading. I’m not ready to let these characters go. Hopefully there’s more to come. In the meantime I’ll bask in this awesome hangover.

Someone Like You is a beautifully romantic love story that flowed easily. It put a smile on my face and warmed my heart.

Dorian Anson is a fixer and a fiercely independent single mom. She has suffered terrible loss, but still has an optimistic outlook. Her love for her son is first and foremost. Her hesitation is understandable after everything she has been through.

Jake Roth lightens the mood with a single joke. He’s handsome, successful and wants to be more than a friend to Dorian. But he also has secrets and a playboy reputation plus he’s slightly arrogant which at times angered me. Yet with all of that, I loved him. His moments of being rendered speechless were absolutely perfect. His love and loyalty, unquestionable.

They have a friendship that spans years. They dance around each other and their attraction. The slow burn with sexual tension ratchets up the anticipation. When they finally reach that pivotal point, it’s explosive. Yet they both pull back and watching the dynamic of their relationship change and grow is the best part of the story. He doesn’t treat her like she’s going to break and she needs that when everyone else does. And she “sees” him when their closest friends don’t. It’s a beautiful, honest love.

I haven’t read the other two books in this series but I plan to do so soon. Reading them can only enhance the pleasure of this one. And this one was extremely pleasurable.

I've never read the previous books in the series and I've missed out. A friends to lovers with an older couple hurrah.

Dorian and Jake were fantastic characters both successful in their careers and very complex people. The story of single mum Dorian was so relatable, her struggles to juggle work home and her son without losing herself was something I could empathise with. Jake is very true to the saying still waters run deep because what you saw on the outside was not the man he was.

This was a very romantic story that had true to life situations. It was not all sunshine and rainbows but when I finished I was happy for me that's always a good sign .

I always seem to stumble into these great books that are part of a series... and hardly ever in order. :) I received Someone Like You as an advance copy from InkSlinger PR in return for my opinion.
I loved it! Now I have to read the other 2 books in the Imperfect Hearts series.
Dorian and Jake are wonderfully well written characters. So perfect for each other even though they are both too scared to admit it at first...
This was such a great story of learning to love again in spite of fear and past heartbreaks!

My favorite book of the three!! I highly recommend the entire series. Jake is by far my favorite character out of this circle of friends among the three books. His sense of humor and loyalty to family and friends is complete swoon worthy.

Gush time complete.

Dorian Anson lost the love of her life but she gained a new love--her son Daniel. Looking for love again never crossed her mind. She's tried scratching that itch but the whole ordeal felt forced to her instead her focus returned to her son and her work. Who needs a man when she has a terrific best friend, Quincy and a twin sister, Willow. Plus, if Daniel needs male bonding, he has her father, her older brother Jamie, and Jake, her brother's best friend and one of her closest friends.

Jacob Roth has been Jamie's best friend since they returned from their training in the states. He watched how everyone fell apart after Phillip's death especially Dory. He has always been attracted to her. She was Phillip's then she was grieving then she needed to care for her son. The timing was never right. Plus Jake has his own demons and secrets. Secrets that only Jamie knows about. Even if he did make a move on Dory, he's not about to expose her to the dangers in his life. But he can't stay away from her or Danny. He jumps at every opportunity to be around them from helping Danny with a sports tournament to building a Star Wars Lego set.

Somewhere along the way he fell in love with her. It could've been at Phillip's funeral where he held her while she wept or when she took care of his sister. Once he's had a taste of her, he wants to continue to wake up beside her every morning for the rest of his life. Nothing makes sense without her.

How can they be together when he has to protect someone else?

Is she still in love with Phillip?

Alexandra Silva knocked me off my feet with her debut novel No One But You, then she left me speechless with For You and now she made me the happiest person on earth with Someone Like You 😍

You need to read the other two books in the Imperfect Hearts Series!!!!!

We already know Dorian and Jake from NOBY and FY, but this is finally Dorians chance for her happy end and she deserves it like nobody else.

After losing Phillip Dorian has to go on with life for her little boy Daniel. And she does, because she is this strong, successful woman I have a huge girl crush on. Since Pips funeral her family, friends and Jake are her rock and Jake becomes one of her best friends. She enjoys his presence and she's happy he gets along with her son. But she ignores her feelings for Jake. She doesn't want to risk this friendship for one night of pleasure.
One night, because Jake never wanted more. But the more time they spend together, the more Jake becomes aware of his feelings for Dorian. And now all he has to do is to get over his past and convince Dorian, that he's the right one for her and Daniel. Forever.

OMG, I love everything about this story. I love Dorian and Jake, Daniel and all the other characters. I love the credibility of the story, that all the characters have normal jobs and lifes. I love their friendships and the relationships between the siblings. I love them for being such great and loving parents.

The writing is excellent, I love Alexandras style and I'm really excited for everything that comes next.

Dorian Anson and Jacob Roth finally get their full story! An exciting event as they make such a wonderful couple, along with Daniel her son, and Dorian has been through so much she deserves it.

I’m not sure I will ever be able to even think of truffles again without having a chuckle after reading this book! I enjoyed the levity in the story, especially between the female characters. Balancing this humour is a darker issue, we’ll really there are a few, but the main one concerning Jake’s sister is handled extremely well. While it does explain things in vivid detail, it also explores the problem with an honest yet positive outlook.

The fact that Dorian felt, after having lost Phillip, her son was the only person who had the rights to her love and affection, showed how deep her grief went but also how much she had tied herself to a man who no longer lived! This was the place where she was at for years!

The question in the book about Jake is..how come he has frown lines on his face when he is always smiling and joking around? That was one thing that really teased me even though we are given little snippets of his past gradually until all is revealed. This has impacted on his past relationships and still forms a stumbling block in this one too. The crumbling of said block is executed in a very smooth and classy way.

This is a longer story than most contemporary books, so you certainly get your money’s worth 😉, but what shines through the most is the sheer class and style of the writing.

First I have to say that this story is absolutely amazing and I could not get enough. I felt like I was right there next to Dorian and Jake seeing their story unfold and seeing all the fears they had and the love that grew each day for each other.

Dorian is a single mother living her life and taking care of her son. She has friends and she goes out and she catches the eye of Jake who has secretly loved her for a longtime. Dorian can see right through Jakes facade and she brings his walls down and he shown her his true self. The good, the bad , and the ugly.

As they start building a relationship from their friendship you get to see things unfold and see how much Jake is willing to do to be with Dorian and her son. He wants to be that man that takes care of Dorian and her son so they never half to worry about anything anymore.

This is an amazing love story that unfolds slowly and let's you get to see what true love is and what a real man is and that is Jake!

when friends become lovers, a single mom trying to juggle it all and a man who doesn't let his true self show. when certain wounds run to deep can they ever heal? an attraction and friend ship that is undeniable, but fought on so many levels. so when the time finally happens, things heat up. love is undeniable and comes in many forms. its time Dorian and Jake to have their happy ever after.

This author was new to me and I will definitely be looking up the other books in this series.

This was a Friends to Lovers story between Dorian, a strong, independent single mum trying to build the best life for her son after the loss of her fiancé, and Jake. Jake is supposed to be the ladies man of the group but is actually protective and sweet. Watching him with the children, and with his sister is so adorable.

I really liked the dynamics of the group, and that they were all friends separately. Willow was my favourite, she's funny and feisty with a smart sassy mouth, and Daniel is just too cute.

I liked the way the relationship built between the main characters, from a long term friendship with an underlying attraction into so much more, but slowly and building depth into their bond. Whilst the sex scenes are very steamy I found some of the wording a little uncomfortable, but that's just my personal view.

This was funny and heart-warming, dealing well with the issue of substance abuse. I cant wait to read more about this little group.

3.5 Stars

*Must read book 2 before this one

I've enjoyed this series and will continue to look forward to more books. Though I prefer books with more angst, the series has managed to hook me with well written and endearing characters. From Jamie & Quincy's story (book 1) to Dorian's story (books 2 & 3), I've become attached!

Why not 5 Stars?
At about 60% I got a little impatient with the pace of the story. Considering the book is 500 pages, not much seems to happen. I needed more angst, more anticipation or perhaps less inner monologue, I don’t know. I was also disappointed with Jacob's reasons for thinking he wasn't good enough for Dorian. I expected some shocking revelations and for about half of the book his secrets just loomed in the background but once revealed I felt he was being overdramatic. Nothing in his life explained why he painted himself “bad” for Dorian. He was a beautiful man inside and out. Utterly selfless and caring in a million ways. Not to mention the man was a surgeon--literally a lifesaver! So his "she deserves better than me" chant fell flat for me. And as for Dorian? I needed her to get over her past already. For such smart people, they took forever to figure things out. They had been friends for over 9 years before they hooked up. Why couldn’t they see how perfect they were for each other? They were an absolutely beautiful power couple. I'm happy they finally left the past in the past and embraced a future together.

Side Note:
I need Jacob's sister's story. So much page time was taken up by her issues so I'm quite invested in her now. But Dorian's twin sister, Willow, is my favorite secondary character in the series. I'd love for her to get her own book. She rocks!

Someone Like You by Alexandra Silva is a slow burn, friends to lovers, contemporary romance told in dual POV. It's the third book in the Imperfect Hearts series, and although it may be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading books 1 and 2 first as they lay a wonderful foundation for Dorian and Jake's story.

Dorian Anson is a strong, independent single mother whose love for her son, Daniel, is first and foremost in her life. She has endured the pain of tragic loss, but with the help and support of her friends and family, she has managed to come through it all with a positive outlook.

Jake Roth is a close friend of Dorian's brother, Jamie. He has also become a close friend to Dorian over the years - her very best friend actually. Jake is a handsome playboy. He's always smiling and joking, but Dorian notices the frown lines that don't match his smiles and she wonders what caused them.

Having developed a solid friendship over the years, Dorian and Jake struggle with fear and insecurity as they deal with their undeniable attraction and growing feelings for each other. Neither can stand the idea of ruining the friendship and losing the other as part of their life. Can Jake open up and trust Dorian with his secrets? Can Dorian allow herself to love again?

I loved Dorian and Jake’s story. It was an honest and genuine portrayal of the journey taken when a relationship transitions from friends to lovers. Their bond felt very real, and I enjoyed the way they cared for each other. I loved this sweet, sexy, heartwarming story. Looking forward to reading more in this series. I hope Willow's story is next.

Someone Like You is a very beautifully written romance story. It was such a great read. Dorian is a strong independent single mother and has suffered great loss in her life. She is an optimistic individual with the will to keep on pushing through. Her son is her first priority no matter what.

Jake Roth comes into her life and makes her start questioning everything. He is easy on the eyes, successful, and wants nothing more but to befriend Dorian. He has secrets like most of us, but his reputation can get the better of him and push Dorian away. When he loves, he loves hard.

While both are attracted to one another, they have this undeniable friendship that spans for many years. Each of them deny their attraction to one another and at times you're like ugh, give in already! When these two finally happen it is like fireworks, sparks flying every which way, and it is sure to leave you breathless.

These two just completely get each other in ways other people never have and it is a joy to read about.

Alexandra Silva did such a beautiful job with this book and I will for sure be reading more by this fantastic author!

I received this ARC as a giveaway in a Facebook group. Please keep in mind that this was the first time I read this author and I did not read the first two in the series.

This was a sweet best friend's sister "forbidden" romance with a London twist on it. Dorian and Jake have been friends for years but something has shifted and each has seen each other in a different light. Dorian is a single mom to Daniel and Jake has always been the friend in the back of the tunnel. We get to experience the changes in feelings, some obstacles for them to overcome, and the journey on how they find each other. And, of course, there are some very steamy and somewhat "crude" scenes in this book as well.

I did enjoy the first half of the book and then something shifted for me in order to give this book 3 stars. There is an endearment of "pretty girl" and "baby" thrown in this book SO many times that it grated on my nerves. Just the adjective of pretty (and whilst) was thrown around in this book that I am going to guess that pretty and whilst are the author's favorite words HA HA. Also, I felt like the book dragged on and on toward the end. There were a couple chapters that I thought could have finished the book and then they didn't.

Other than a couple of minor preferences, this was a cute romance read with a London twist.

Dorian is a single mother to her son Daniel and he is not only the center of her world but he is the reason that she was able to pick up the pieces of her loss after a tragic loss.

Jake is her brother’s best friend and has become her best friend as well. He is the life of the party and the one who always has a joke and makes others smile but underneath his happy persona is a man with demons of his own.

As their feelings for each other evolve into something deeper they must decide if the risk of crossing that line is worth the reward of what they could have together and if they can help each other heal from their pasts.

I loved these two together. Dorian sees Jake as he truly is warts and all and loves him anyway and Jake embraces how much stronger Dorion’s past has made her. It was great to catch up with the characters we know and love from the previous books in this series as well.

5 stars (because I cannot find that 10 star button anywhere)

I have been waiting for Jake it feels like for decades. And I have no earthly idea of how this happens but Alexandra, you like to write about my different personalities and about things happening in my own life. I feel like I go through an existential crisis every time I read you. I’m not complaining, I’m
Just asking where you put the damn camera in my life? Haha. Dorian has one priority and that’s her son, there’s no need for romance because in her mind she doesn’t deserve it. Jake has always been the playboy and the best friend, while others rely on him to be the rock, inside he struggles like everyone else: a sister battling addiction, a pretty brutal family history and the fact that the love of his life (not that he even accepted for half of the book) thinks she’s not good enough and still grieving her dead husband. The way in which they connect is so beautiful and when things move from physical to emotional, they have a lifetime opportunity to be each other’s hearts. Jake finally understands why when he sees her, he sees his hearts equal when every other heart had seemed inferior. I loved this book, can we get like holiday editions each year? Can’t wait for more from Alexandra, if you haven’t read her guys what is wrong with you!

To sum up this book with one word I would say Beautiful. It’s a story about Dorian a single mom because her husband passed away but she’s a strong woman that loves her son so much. Jake is a funny, sweet guy who himself is struggling but when he’s around his friend Dorian the light just shines. Two people that are friends but want more but know it will just complicate things. Will they both come together and feel the light and love that surrounds them? Amazing story that made my heart swoon many times! 5/5 stars

As book 3 goes have to say it feels like we have come full circle. I never did like Phillip but he did give Dorian the best part of him. The chemistry between Dorian and Jake was tense with tons of passion. So easy to see them right in every way from the way they interact with each other and when they love is just wow. This was a great series and so happy to see how everybody has come along the way.

Someone Like You is a very slow burn friends to lovers book that can not be read as a stand alone book. You really need to start at the beginning to see where it all began & I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Dorian has had a difficult time getting to where she is, a widow, single Mum working her butt off to prove to herself she can do it all only one thing is missing 💗

Jacob, is the always supportive friend, doesn’t think he is good enough for Dorian, has his secrets he wants to keep hidden however they all come out as the story unfolds & these two come together beautifully.

Supporting one another, filling the holes in their lives that they didn’t know how to all they had to do was let down their guard & open their heart to love.

I’ve enjoyed this series watching the writer grow and learning more about the characters, I hope we get to hear about the both Jake & Dorian’s sisters in future books.

Give this series a try.

I love that we finally know Jake and Dorian's story! Jake is a guy who'd everyone should want to be friends with but only a few know the real man. Dorian has been trying to move on since losing her husband years ago. These two come together and it's such a beautiful story of love. Jake loves with everything he is. Love their story!

After devouring For You I was desperate for Jake and Dorian’s full story and oh boy did it knock me off my feet.
Alexandra has a unique writing style that draws you in and has you there feeling right alongside the characters. If they laugh you laugh, they cry you cry and this story certainly packed all the feels. Amazing!

The first couple of chapters were hard for me to get into, but I'm glad I stayed with it. This is a very emotional book that not only has a great love story but a story about not shutting people out of your life. Dorian is a great mom but she became even better when she decided to let herself love Jacob.

From the moment we met Jacob Roth in For You and No One But You by Alexandra Silva I knew I wanted his story! From the very first mention of his name I was drawn to him and I have eagerly awaited this book longing for Jake to have his Happy Ever After.

The wait was not in vein!

“Someone Like You is a sweet friends-to-lovers romance with a little angst, some humour and a whole lot of sexy!”

Yet again I was hooked from the first page. This book was beautiful. The hidden layers of Jacob Roth slowly peel back to reveal the real Jake and let me tell you – the man is so much more than the happy joker he appears to be in the first two books in this series. His secret love for his friend Dorian Anson, is beautifully told by Alexandra and the emotional roller-coaster of their courtship had me laughing, crying and hoping all the way through.

Dorian and Jake have amazing chemistry and their friendship is heart-warming. I love how they handle each other’s insecurities and support one another. Their connection is palpable it’s like their souls were destined to be together. The romantic gestures and thoughtful nature of Jake had me swooning on many an occasion but as you’d expect the Happy Ever After doesn’t come easily.

Dealing with some difficult issues including grief and loss as well as the sensitive issue of addiction, there were times I found my heart breaking for the characters. But as always, Alex does not disappoint. Handling these issues with the utmost care and delivering a wonderful love story with “the best” ending.

Someone Like You is a beautifully written contemporary romance with humour, heartbreak and a lot of romance not to mention some amazingly hot sex.

I rate this book as 5 starts. Definitely my favourite in the series so far! Alexandra is already an automatic one click author for me and this book cements my belief in this amazingly talented author. Her story telling ability just gets better and better and I cannot wait for more! Congratulations Alex!

Two words…… “The best.”

This book deserves all the"magic stars", because 5 stars doesn't make justice for how perfectly, incredible this book was.

Ever since reading No One But You, I so wanted for Jake and Dorian to have their story, and now they do, and it's everything.

Jake and Dorian story gave me all the warm and fuzzy feeling, had me grinning and swooning the whole time. Their chemestry and connection is fabulous, you can feel it every time they are together, and it will cause your heart to explode.

Jake... OMG, what can I say about him, he is perfect, an amazing guy, wonderful friend, caring, attentive, and the love he has for Dorian and her son is just so great.

Dorian is fabulous, a great mom, hardworking, caring and protective, she had been through a lot and deserved to be happy.

Overall this was a super heartwarming story, that once I started reading it, I wasn't able to put it down.

From the very moment I started reading this book I found myself captivated by the deep connection between Dorian and Jake. They’ve been friends for many years, leaned on each other in a connection that is evolving into something more as the sexual tension surrounding them is becoming too much to ignore. With their pasts invading their present though it will be an emotionally intense journey to reach HEA, a journey that readers have watched evolve throughout this series and have been rooting for every step of the way.

Dorian Anson’s a single mother, a hard working lawyer who’s devoted to her son. Memories of her dead husband are always present though and it’s clear that it’s keeping her from moving on and finding her own HEA. The two times in the past that she’s given into her needs she was left feeling dirty and frustrated, a cheater to her dead husband’s memory. These kinds of conflicted feelings are just part of the chaos her friend Jake inspires in her just as she’s coming to realize she’s no longer content to be just friends. He may have started out on the periphery of her life, but he slowly became more vital to her as he was there when she gave birth to her son and has been there as a father figure ever since. She doesn’t want to lose him as a friend, but she can no longer ignore the call of his body and the sexy feelings he inspires in her. Throwing caution to the wind she decides to give into having fun which ultimately leads to more in a sweet and sexy journey to HEA that has them both revealing hard truths along the way. Dorian’s an immensely appealing heroine, kind and focused on her son to the exclusion of her happiness. Where others see a fun loving Jake, she sees a man hiding his pain behind a smile that has her longing to hug him which made me appreciate her all the more for looking past the pretty packaging to ease his pain. Dorian’s interactions with her girlfriends also show someone who’s fun and easy to relate to in scenes of bawdy talk and sassy comebacks. She’s the kind of heroine you root for and I became quickly invested in her HEA.

Jakob Roth’s had a rocky life growing up, but you wouldn’t guess that with his quick smiles and jovial attitude as an adult. Things just seem to roll off him as he lives a life of sensual pleasures and one-night stands. He’s a sexy and successful man, supportive to his friends and family, but behind that commanding facade is a man who’s hurting for those he loves most. Family is clearly his greatest strength, but it’s also a weakness as he’s left on edge dealing with his sister’s addiction which keeps him from committing wholeheartedly to other relationships. It’s fear over commitment that holds him back from telling Dorian about his growing feelings for her, fear over not being good enough due to his less than ideal past. She’s had enough pain in her life and he doesn’t want to make things worse for her, but he can’t keep his hands off her for much longer. His life has become entwined with hers so deeply, he’s become far too important to her son, to jeopardize on one night which has him putting everything on the line to earn her heart and soul for his very own. Jake’s a delicious hero with a fun and flirty attitude that belies something much deeper. He’s dedicated and quick to help which is why his sister’s addiction weighs so heavily on him. There’s no easy fix in scenes that were realistic and vividly depicted in heartbreaking ways that pull you into the pain of addiction for the addict and everyone around them. Jake deserves happiness though and in his scenes with Dorian he can truly be himself, imperfections and all, which had me cheering him on in his sensual battle to claim her as his own.

This was a sweet and sensual story full of emotional intensity as friends became lovers. It’s a journey that pulls at the heartstrings while warming the heart. Dorian and Jake are great as friends, supportive and caring of one another while fighting their obvious attraction, but they sizzle as lovers in flirty and sexy exchanges. Both have issues to deal with before they can fully commit though, hers from the past and his in the here and now, and it added an extra layer to their burgeoning romance that made their relationship even more authentic. Surrounding this immensely appealing main couple was a large cast of secondary characters, some friends and some family, that enriched the story through playful interactions and heartwarming support when it was most needed. The most notable for me being Willow, the fun-loving friend with the tell it like it is attitude. She unabashedly embraces her sexuality which leads to some chuckle-worthy exchanges with Dorian and her other friends and I look forward to her finding a HEA of her own. Dorian and Jake’s HEA has been a long time coming as readers have watched it grow through the previous books in this series. Though this book can be read on its own the romance between these two becomes richer seeing where it all started and I greatly anticipate seeing more of them in the future in a story and series that’s been beautifully crafted.
