The film industry is one place where there's no dearth of secrets. From controversies to love stories to new friendships, it's a place where nothing comes to a standstill and at all times, the fans are hooked to social media to know about their favourite celebrities.

In one such revelation, actor Ayushmann Khurrana has now revealed that he was supposed to play Diljit Dosanjh's character in Udta Punjab. It so happened that during a recent interaction with film critic Rajeev Masand, a host of actors including Shahid Kapoor, Ayushmann Khurrana, Vijay Varma, Akshaye Khanna and Ranveer Singh got together for a roundtable discussion.

The actors were asked as to which genres or films they are dying to be a part of but for some reason, they aren't offered any projects in the space. While Shahid bared his heart and shared that all the actors would be dying to experiment with genres the other ones would have done at some point, he also revealed that he'd love to do something like Gully Boy and play a rap star emerging from Dharavi, or a Dil Chahta Hai. He also heaped praise on Ayushmann for his choice of roles and lauded him for being the first one to do something like Vicky Donor.

It was at this point that Ayushmann revealed that he was supposed to be a part of Udta Punjab. The actor recalled. "I was supposed to do that film... Udta Punjab... Diljit's character. Suddenly mujhe call aaya ki tum nahi kar rahe, so I was heartbroken," leaving everyone else surprised.

Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, the film is a black comedy crime film and starred Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh and Alia Bhatt in lead roles. With its raw representation of the drug menace in Punjab and its gritty storyline, the film went on to gain massive attention and also performed well at the box office. While the film released in 2016, the ardent fans of Udta Punjab continue to cite moments from the film to stress on the usage of drugs in Punjab.
