HVAC Services That Can Lower Your Heating Bill

There’s no better feeling than coming home to a nicely warmed home, courtesy of your favorite heating system in Winder, GA. Of course, there is one thing that can spoil the mood:

The heating bill.

Owning an HVAC system is a constant battle between performance and efficiency. We believe you deserve the comfort you want at the lowest possible price. And while using your heater as little as possible is one way to lower costs, it’s not exactly the most comfortable. Instead, try opting for some of these services.

Smart Thermostats

One of the best ways to maintain efficiency is by controlling your use of the thermostat. However, operating it requires some real discipline. It’s easy to get up and change the temperature at the slightest bit of discomfort, but over time, that can really add up in extra costs.

Instead, you can try leaving it in the hands of a smart thermostat. These thermostats can adjust your heating based on your spending goals, all while working out how to give you comfort when you enjoy it the most. These thermostats will pay themselves off after a few months of use.

Humidifiers

If your air is dry and you want lower heating bills, a humidifier could be just what you need.

You may not have ever thought of it in this way, but humidity makes the air feel warmer than it actually is. It’s the same reason why humidity is so awful to deal with in the middle of a hot summer.

The same holds true in winter. If your air is dry and cold, adding humidity will allow you to drop the thermostat a couple degrees without feeling the difference. Not only can you say goodbye to dry throats and cracked skin, but you’ll save some money, too.

Switching or Downgrading Your Tank Water Heater

If your home uses a tank water heater, you may experience what’s called standby heat loss. This is what happens when the hot water in the tank isn’t used quickly enough. The unused water slowly loses its heat, only for the water heater to reheat it again, thus wasting energy.

There are a couple of ways to approach this issue:

  • You may need your water heater reassessed if members of the home have moved out or if your hot water usage habits have gone down. You may need to downgrade to a smaller tank that better fits your current needs.
  • Rather than deal with fluctuating water demands, you can switch to a tankless water heater. These water heaters only heat water on demand, so there’s never any wasted water (just be careful about those extended showers).

Duct Sealing

If the ducts in your HVAC system are more than a few years old and haven’t been inspected, it could be time to have your ducts tested. They could reveal the presence of leaks.

Leaks in a duct system is nothing but trouble. The ducts always need to retain a tight seal in order to properly transfer air through your home. A leak in that system means your heated air is going to waste.
