Wrecked is the new standalone novel of deliciously dark, deeply emotional contemporary romance from J.B. Salsbury, the New York Times bestselling author of Split and The Fighting Series.

When you can’t trust yourself, how can you ask anyone else to?

It’s been months since Aden Colt left the Army, and still the memories haunt him. When he moved into a boat off the California coast, he thought he’d found the perfect place to escape life.

Then Sawyer shows up, and turns his simple life upside down.

Beautiful and sophisticated, she seems out of place in this laidback beach town. Something is pushing her to experience everything she can—including Aden. But as much as he wants her, starting a relationship with Sawyer puts them both at risk.

For Aden, the past doesn’t stay there; it shows up unexpectedly, uncontrollably, and doesn’t care whose life it wrecks.

Wrecked is one of those books that pulled me in from the start and didn’t let go. I love starting a book and being hooked from the beginning. JB Salsbury wrote a beautiful story about living life to the fullest, forgiving others (and forgiving yourself), and letting love heal you. Honestly, when I started this one, I expected it to be a little more dark and angsty. I was pleasantly surprised with the way it turned out. Wrecked was very much an emotional and raw read, but it was also sweet, romantic, and even light hearted at times.

Sawyer’s life is best summed up in one word. Predictable. But something happens that changes her. Or someone. When Sawyer travels to California, her sister encourages her to live life to the fullest. To take risks and not be so orderly and safe. Sawyer does just that. She meets Aden Colt shortly after getting to California and is drawn to him immediately.

Aden Colt has been back in the states for a few months. After a traumatic tour overseas, he’s not the same man he once was. He struggles with his demons, and it seems that nothing and no one can help or reach him. Then he meets Sawyer. There is something about this girl with freckles that he can’t resist. Even though his better judgment tells him to stay away from her, he can’t.

Sawyer and Aden’s relationship changes them both. Sawyer lives fearlessly when she is with Aden. And Aden can function when he’s with Sawyer. I loved the two of them together! Aden is a tortured hero who has been through so much. I love the effect Sawyer has on him. And I really loved seeing Sawyer come into her own with Aden. They were a perfect match.

Wrecked is one of those stories that left me with a huge smile on my face. I love books that make me truly look at my life and make me think about living to life to the fullest. This story did that for me. The characters were lovable, the writing was fantastic, and the ending had me so happy I cried happy tears!

➦Well, you get my point, I loved it. lol This book is actually not as dark as some of you might think, although it does have triggers. Other than that I'd consider this to be a contemporary romance.

➦The heroine goes to a small town to pack up her twin sister's apartment. And while doing so she pretends to be her sister. She finds herself socializing with a bunch of interesting people and taking risks that she would never consider taking. When one day she ends up on a boat of a certain brooding fisherman, she never expects to make a new friend.

➦I really loved the main characters of this novel and I really sympathized with both of them for the past they've had. The transition between friends to lovers was incredibly well done and, dammit, by the end of the book I wanted this hero to be MY friend. If you know what i mean.

➦In addition to "friends to lovers trope" there's also an expiration date on these two characters' relationship. The heroine will need to leave once she packs up her sister's things. Will love be enough to make her come clean about who she is? I definitely recommend this read for those who love emotional reads with tortured characters. I definitely shed some tears while reading this touching story!

Eden Colette was a proud soldier in Afghanistan, but a devastating betrayal resulted in the deaths of almost all members of his unit. Although he's at home now, he struggles with PTSD. ❤

Sawyer Forrester has OCD and germophobia. 💔
Her twin sister, Celia, is terminally ill and asking for a last request - for Sawyer to drive to her home in San Diego and pack her things to her parents' house, and during this time Celia asks Sawyer to pretend to be her. 😱
Celia wants to be remembered as she once was, not sick ... but Sawyer knows she will not be able to impersonate her because she is not carefree, brave and spontaneous. But how can you refuse her dying sister's request? 😭

Sawyer and Aidan are completely similar to each other - they both deal with demons, and maybe that's why they connected... they get closer every day, more and more. 😍
But they both know that their time together is limited, until Celia (that is, Sawyer) leaves... What will Eden think when he finds out that Sawyer is not really Celia? Do they have a chance for a future when their relationship started from lying?? 😱

📚 “𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴.”
“𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁.” 📚

Damn, this couple was HOT!!! Except for their first kiss scene. It was not really critical, but I could not ignore that the moment before he touched her face and kissed her for the first time, he cleaned fish.
Without gloves.
Or washing hands.
Or just an antiseptic gel.
so...
germs.
gross.
COVID-19!!!!!!!
Never mind, ignore me. Other than that, they were fucking hot! 😂🔥

I loved how they made a difference in the others life, but I mostly liked that he was treating his PTSD and that the author didn't present their "huge love" or "crazy sex" as a magic cure (see Christian Gray, Gideon Cross, Jesse the Lord and many more...) 😂😂😂
The only thing I didn't like was the scene when the lie revealed, but I will not elaborate because its a spoiler.

This is a love story of two broken people who found solace in each other.
The romance between the characters developed reliably - with a chemistry that felt completely natural. The writing was excellent, the characters were realistic. 😍

This story is more than just a love story, it's a journey to recovery - together and separately. Highly recommend!!! ❤

➳When opposites attract, both in ways that are unexpected, that is when the most passionate chemistry blossoms and this novel demonstrates it in every single way possible...

➳I am not one who admires ex-miliraty or army romance. However, this novel took my breathe away through every single turn of every page. Not only is there an instant attraction between Sawyer and Aden, but they both have that same understanding of people not being able to be inside their heads and comprehend what they go through when others go through their "normal" lives.

➳After breaking up with a boyfriend of six months, Sawyer comes to the final drawn conclusion of her heartbreaking situation regarding her sister. As she tries to comply all the last wishes her sister desires, Sawyer finds herself in a small cottage in a un-known small town near an ocean. Getting her sister's belongings was the first and for most only thing she should have been doing, but instead, she regarded the presence of a "jerk" that categorized her as a "city-gal." However, for Aden- the "jerk"- his attraction towards Sawyer aka Celia- as she is pretending to be her sister for the duration of this trip of getting her belongings- is something that he finds strange and but foreignly essential for his fruits to loin inside his dark soul. A man with a past of murder, darkness, sinful thoughts of killing, but also with an idea of creating a future for himself and finding the ideal path towards Celia's (Sawyer's) affections- that's the person that Aden is. Someone that once you begin reading his words, his thoughts, you learn to love and comprehend his reasonings and actions. Their sex appeal, the lust present makes this novel a crave worthy piece of work.

➳After going through many obstacles together, both in the emotional and physical aspect, Celia (Sawyer) and Aden open up to each other in a way that is just admirable and soothing to read. Over coming obstacles for both of them is pure agony, an agony that is confrontational in hard ways to be accepted or understood by others. Hence why Sawyer and Aden belong together. Why even try separating them when even in this fictional world, they separation is one that breaks the heart of the reader. Wanting more of them both. More of their lust, their passion, and knowledge, their curiosity, and also their fears to over come future obstacles.

➳Overall this story took my heart for a true and intentional, loving turn. I cannot believe that I have never read this author before, but I know that from now on I will be looking forward to more novels or short stories written by J.B. Salsbury since my love for her emotional writing has captivated not only my heart, but my mind for more knowledge on the understanding of others with feelings and pasts that are difficult for others to truly comprehend. Once again, my mind has been blown by the world writing of romance and its ideal inheritance to be published...

I look at you and I forget.” “What do you forget?” He leans in and brushes his lips so softly against mine. “Everything.”

It's official, I'm totally and completely wrecked. Ruined. My heart hurts because the book almost crushed it with its incredibly powerful and emotional story. My eyes hurt because I cried hysterically through the entire last third. I'm moved down to the marrow of my bones. YES. It was THAT good.

No seriously. I don't remember crying so hard reading a book before and I downright sobbed. SOBBED.

So what made this book so good? The story. It was simple yet emotional. Gripping yet not over the top. The characters. Both Aden and Sawyer are incredibly multilayered characters filled with so much depth, it practically overflows from the pages. But I'd be lying if I told you that Aden didn't steal my heart. I had honest to god shivers reading the prologue. SHIVERS, people.
Dead bodies litter the floor.
Shock overtakes me.
My hands shake but I feel nothing.
Only one thought pumps furiously through my mind. It should’ve been me.

A soldier riddled with nightmares that he can't escape. A survivor burdened with guilt and rage. A man filled with emptiness and regrets. He escapes in the only way he knows how, at the bottom of a bottle. Secluding himself from everything and everyone living on his uncles boat, he doesn't expect a beautiful stranger to make him want to live again.
Scared?” I look up at him and get lost in the warmth of his gaze.
“No. I feel safe with you.”
“Yeah?” His lips part and his breath dances across my lips. “So I’m not a stranger anymore.”
“No.” I run my hands up the back of his neck into his hair and slide against his hard body. “You make me feel like I can do anything.”
His eyebrows drop low and his jaw ticks. “And you make me forget.”

Sawyer made a promise to her terminally sick twin sister; a promise that brings her to California and stumbling into a stranger that changes everything for her.
Because soon enough I’ll be out of his life and I’ll go back to being Sawyer, the kind of girl who would never turn the head of a guy like Aden, and I’ll be able to go on living my sheltered safe life knowing what it’s like to truly live. That is, if I survive it.

I expected a ton of angst with this book but that's not what I got at all. Don't get me wrong, it's not exactly a light read but it's also not filled with anything extra to take away from the character driven story. You really get to know Aden and Sawyer and what makes them tick. You get to see them be there for each other during some of the most difficult parts of their lives. You get to see them hold each other up and slowly fall in love. It was beautiful and touching, emotional and sweet.
I don’t want to forget you.”
He pulls his shirt off over his head, his wide muscular chest on display and tensing with anticipation. “I’ll make sure you never will.” He pushes down his shorts and closes in until the warmth of his bare skin presses against mine. “I’ll mark your fucking soul.”

Wrecked is very appropriately titled. Both of these characters were anything if not a little broken but in completely different ways. It wasn't dark or full of drama. It wasn't angsty or full of gratuitous sex scenes. It was just two broken people learning to make themselves whole together. It was a beautiful and memorable romance that I won't forget for a long, long while, and a book I can't recommend enough.

Review @ Vanilla & Spice Books

While Celia has always been fearless her twin sister Sawyer has a significant penchant to be cautious. She is the one who makes to-do lists and never takes risks and definitely doesn't leave things up to chance.

Her sister wants nothing more than for Sawyer to let loose and live instead of locking herself up - and Celia knows what she is talking about. A tumor is wrecking her brain and she doesn't have much time left. Celia asks Sawyer to pack up her apartment in San Diego and tie up loose ends pretending she is Celia.

The life Aden has chosen for himself after he left special forces three months ago is perfect. It's quiet, solitary, and he can escape when his past becomes overwhelming and the deaths of his brothers in arms make his chest tight. Today he lives on a boat and manages his uncles property in San Diego.
When his uncle's favorite tenant walks up to him to get the key for her cottage he can't quite see the girl in his uncle's photos. This version of Celia is uptight, reserved and he finds it highly entertaining to be the cause for her to get her panties in a twist.

I’m sorry, I don’t know your name.”
“Aden.”
He looks up at me with those arresting chocolate-brown eyes. “Most people call me Colt.”
“Colt, like… a baby horse?”
He goes back to searching the drawer. “Yeah, or Colt like my last name.”
“Oh.”

Aden is a soldier, it is ingrained in his DNA to serve his country. This fateful night, when he trusted the enemy and was betrayed and ambushed, he lost most of his brothers-in-arms. He was honorably discharged and tried to find his footing in the world outside the army. Not so easy with an untreated PTSD. He looks for solitude, he doesn't like gatherings of people, and drinks way too much. Women help Aden to forget for a night but when the going get really tough he goes out on his boat to be alone.

Despite his crippling nightmares and the guilt he is carrying he isn't a depressing character. Aden is such a smartass with an amazing sarcastic sense of humor who made me laugh a lot throughout the story. He is the sort of hero who is always in charge...until a slip of a woman shows him the light. I completely fell for Aden (dips!) and he broke my heart when he felt so unworthy of love. He was pretty intense at times, complicated and bossy and not at all in control of his life. Unsurprisingly, he was also a straight shooter.

“I’m not the type of man who begs.” He hisses through his teeth when I grip him tighter. “But I’m begging, please, let me fuck you.”

Sawyer is facing tragedy and she knows it. She wants to fulfill her sister's dying wish not realizing what a gift Celia is giving her. In the beginning you see this uptight a little reserved woman with some funny quirks, who, when she does as her sister asks, becomes increasingly relaxed. I loved her growth. How she became the perfect mix of Celia and Sawyer. She still had her inherent personality but when she loosened up she became happier, less fearful and that was thanks to Aden who challenged her and made her face her fears.

When I read the blurb I thought I'd be in for a delicious angst fest. What I got was so much more lighthearted, but not less delicious. In the last 25-30% J.B. Salsbury cranks up the angst and I ended up clutching my chest because it became a bit tight.
I appreciated that there wasn't any unnecessary drama. I also loved Sawyer's and Aden's connection - it was attraction, sexiness, adoration, friendship and respect wrapped up in a sweet package.
This story is in parts full of raw emotion, and humor and sweetness in others. At no point I felt overwhelmed or depressed, it is perfectly balanced to make this story immensely enjoyable.

It’s the way he makes me feel like I’m the only woman in the world. He responds to every word I say, every sound that slips unabashed from my lips, as if I’m giving him a secret he’s been desperate to discover. When we’re together it’s as if I’m the air and he’s begging for his next breath.

Miss Salsbury totally took me by surprise with this book. Sawyer's and Aden's journey is wonderful and reminds me of things that are important - forgive yourself, face your fears and get over your hangups and start living. And always TRY. I loved being part of their adventure.
J.B. Salsbury really impressed me again with her flawless writing. Can you see how much I loved this book? Yeah...I loved this book hard!

I've thought a lot about this........ I've sat here most the morning thinking about what to say, how to rate, and not give the jif of the story away.

And........Holy crap I am wrecked!! This book was simply amazing. It had my emotions all over the place. I was up, feeling good about it, then I was down, not liking what was happening. However, this author, she captures my heart with her writing. I've loved everything I've read by her and this one ranks as one of the best, so far =))

Sawyer Forrester is living out her dying twin's last dying wish. She has absolutely nothing to lose by doing it, especially when it's suppose to last just a few weeks. So when she meets Aden Colt, and starts to feel things she's never felt before, does she continue her charade or come clean with the man she's falling for? Always living the opposite of her twin sister, she's ready to break out of her shell

Aden Colt has a body full of demons. He has encountered the absolute worst in his young life and is just trying to get by without hurting anyone or allowing the past to consume him. I was weary of Aden in the beginning but once his story was brought out, my heart hurt for him. He deserved happiness, so much happiness. In the end, I was so proud of who he became.

Sawyer had never loved before, she always thought she brought the bad to everyone. She avoided a lot of people and a lot of situations. She's put into a situation she isn't sure how she will get out of without hurting someone she's grown to care so much for. Living out a wish of the one person who she never wants to hurt and lying to someone she has given her heart to, has become just to much to bare for her.

I absolutely love how this story unfolded. It was beautifully done. And my god the epilogue, thank you so much dear author, that was a hell of an epilogue. Couldn't end a book any better❤️💗 I do recommend this book to those of you that are looking for a bit of different. It isn't your typical love story, but it is quite lovely and I truly adored it

"I can give her what she needs.I want to erase the anguish I recognize in her eyes."

Wrecked is the story of two damaged souls who find love. What I find interesting about this was the fact that both of them were trying to come up with reasons not to thinking each other even though they were attracted to each other.

Aden and Sawyer has an amazing chemistry.I loved watching them out of their comfort zone.Because this is happening every time these two were together. They made me laugh, melt and swoon.

I really enjoyed it.I can't wait to read more books from JB Salsbury. The writing was perfect and flawless.

This book had me happy sighing all over the place. It was so romantic and emotion and is now one of my favorites from J.B Salsbury, which is saying a lot since I love everything she writes. These characters honestly broke my heart, but it was in the best way.

The best thing about this book for me was actually Sawyer's character and how we got to see her grow throughout the story. From the beginning to the end we got to see her use every part of her strength to survive and it was really admirable. She started as a kind of shy and introverted but by the end she was a more confident person and I loved getting to see that change in her.

Aden was so swoon worth it's not even funny, and I think most readers are going to adore him. He and Sawyer had an amazing friendship that turned into more and I actually really liked that they moved a bit slow but it worked for their characters.

Bottom line, this book is one that has me screaming at everyone I know to please read it. It's sweet and emotional but with so much love you'll think your heart will combust with it all.

I’ve always admired how an author could provoke a multitude of spellbinding emotions out of you just from one story. You’re feelings are no longer your own because they’ve been hijacked by a lyrical masterpiece and your heart becomes so enraptured in the words, that you literally have to take a deep breath just to calm down. I’ve read stories like that and the one thing that has always played a constant in my mind was, these aren’t ordinary books and they sure as hell aren’t your average stories. Reading stuff like this is an EXPERIENCE. This author has always managed to keep me in her grasps with her words and “Wrecked” was no different.

Aden Colt has seen some things that would make any man have nightmares. It also doesn’t help that he suffers from PTSD and has a hard time being around new people (or people in general) . Now being honorable discharged from the army, Aden is now living in his version of a simple life on a boat with the feeling of being content. He couldn’t help what happened to him and his brothers at arms all of those years ago and having the nightmare to prove it, is a daily struggle. But all of that changes once he lays eyes on the very complex Sawyer Forrester.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Sawyer has always been the quiet type. When your twin sister is always the life of the party, being in the background isn’t all that difficult. Realizing that her sister’s condition is not going to get any better, Sawyer agrees to go to San Diego to care of her business. But her sister wants her to do more than that and it includes finally letting her hair down and breaking some rules. What will happen when Sawyer and Aden cross paths?

“ I don’t want to forget you.”
I’ll make sure you never will.. I’ll mark your fucking soul. His lips touch the shell of my ears and he Whispers,

“ the same way you’ve marked mine”.

Can Aden put his demons to rest for a chance with Sawyer?

Or will it be ruined before they even start?

I have to say that I really loved Sawyer’s character! She was relatable, quirky, and she loved her sister with everything she had. Seeing that kind of bond between them made this story even more special and the only flaw for me was that I wished we had gotten more of it. As for Aden, I’m calling dibs on that man so back off! Besides, I already licked the cover so he’s mine. I loved his tortured soul, his rude humor, and the fact that despite he had a battle going on his mind, he was willing to take his heart to War for Sawyer and I loved that.

If you’re looking for an emotional story with a tortured hero and a lovable heroine, this one is definitely for you.

Sawyer was a beautiful woman trapped in a stagnant life of her own making. But life delivers her a twist when her sister makes a strange request framed as a dying wish. An obligation becomes Sawyer's wake-up call, offering her her first taste of freedom and adventure and Aden is there to experience it all with her.

Aden was an honorable soldier dealing with PTSD and survivor's guilt. He's isolated himself from his family and has very few people in his life who mean anything to him. He finds some sort of peace at the bottom of a bottle or at sea. He's definitely not looking to make a lasting impression on anyone or have any sort of meaningful relationship. He's unworthy, at least in his eyes. But Sawyer is the first person who really resonates with him. As hard as they both try to convince themselves to keep it casual, the strength of their feelings just wouldn't quit and they were pulled closer together.

"I may not need him. He may be the worst possible person for me. But I want him in a way I can't even begin to understand."

This was such a sweetly beautiful story. Wrecked gripped me from the start and by the end, I found it hard to let go. It was raw and it was deep. It was a story about life, loss, grief, hope, love, and new beginnings. Ultimately it came down to two broken souls who thankfully found healing and solace and love within one another.

J.B Salsbury is an author I’ve never read before, but after being assured by a trusted friend and fellow reviewer that she was pretty sure I’d love it, I wasted no time in diving in. And she wasn't wrong, I did love it.

description

Aden and Sawyer are two people who are each dealing with personal pain—for him his career in Special Forces has left him battling inner demons, and for her it's facing the loss of the person closest to her, her twin, Celia. And, as the title suggests both are wrecked in their own ways. However, rather than bring us a story riddled with heavy angst, Salsbury has created a shining light from the darkness between two characters who are real and completely endearing.

“You make me feel like I can do anything.”
“And you make me forget.”

As someone who is methodical, lives by lists and a risk is crossing the road on a red, to a degree I could empathise with Sawyer, and I loved how she braved her fears and grew as a person from doing so. But it was Aden's plight that truly made my heart hurt: what he has suffered is tragic and whilst he hides it well and chooses to be a bit of a loner, he is struck by his the strength of his attraction to Sawyer.

“Even if we’re using each other as a distraction, what a sweet fucking distraction this is.”

How they navigate the path from new-found friendship to lovers grabs you tight and, whilst at times not easy, their bond is one filled with strength, fear, passion and moments of fun lifting it exactly when the story needs it. And when Aiden does become unstuck, the support Sawyer offers is quite beautiful.

“Life is beautiful and terrifying. And you deserve to feel that down to your bones.”

Every element of this story worked for me: the prologue hit hard, the overall story swallowed me up and the epilogue was simply the icing on the cake. These characters truly are the two halves that find each other and make a whole. J.B Salsbury has herself a new reader.

Title: Wrecked
Series: Standalone
Author: JB Salsbury
Release date: July 18, 2017
Cliffhanger: No
HEA

Wrecked begins with a flashback in Aden's POV, three months prior to the present time. Those first few pages will immediately draw you in with a heart pounding scene that helps you to understand the severe PTSD that he's struggling with. While on tour in the Special Forces, his job was to train Iraqi and Kurdish soldiers. After his last mission went horribly wrong, he's left completely shattered and unable to pick up the pieces. Flashbacks and anger consume him, so he prefers to isolate himself to his own brooding company. He lives a simple life managing his uncle Cal's rental property in California, and living on his small houseboat. The string of willing women distract him from his inner turmoil, but it's only a temporary fix, like putting a band-aid on a bullet hole.

I know what it feels like to have something living inside that eats away at your sanity. They call it trauma, a deeply distressing experience, but God… it’s so much more. It’s alive and breathing, it eats and rarely sleeps, it’s a monster that demands attention and never ever gives in.

Aden was a likable hero, I sympathized with him right from the start and rooted for him to overcome his demons. He had a really great sense of humor that lent some necessary lightness into the story. I went into the book thinking that this would be a darker type of book, but it actually didn't feel that way at all despite the serious topics that were addressed. I was pleasantly surprised by the entertaining dialogue that propelled the plot forward at a fast pace.

My first impression of Sawyer was that she was uptight, filled with anxiety over a variety of things like germs, cleanliness, and organization. She pushed her fears deep down, and boxed them up, cushioning them with order and predictability. These things made sense, made her feel safe after her grandmother passed away and she spent years taking the blame on herself.

Sawyer's identical twin sister Celia may be her mirror image on the surface, but they couldn't be more different in every aspect of their personalities. Celia has always been the free spirited and outgoing one, looking at life as one grand adventure ready to be seized.

In a world where I live in black-and-white and absolutes, my sister lives in tie-dye and liberation. All answers are right answers and even negative consequences serve a bigger purpose. It’s insane. Anarchy. Chaos.

But after contracting a rare form of cancer, her time is drawing close to an end. She wants to leave knowing that Sawyer will put herself outside of her comfort zone and find the ability to live free and just be.

So she pushes her to go to her apartment in California and walk in her footsteps for a couple of short weeks. To pack her things of for her, and convince her friends that she IS Celia, just moving on to her next exciting city. So they remember her as the strong and vital woman they all love her as. Playing her part was impossible enough, but learning to let go was her most challenging test of all. What she really needed was to have her tidy little life shaken and turned upside down, and Aden was the one to show her how it's done.

Aden and Sawyer have an immediate disarming attraction, and even when they were butting heads, they still found a way to charm each other. He was hopelessly confused over his mixed feelings and growing attachment for this woman.

I want to fall into her arms and never come up for air, absorbing the sweet medication of her touch.

She was one big mass of contradictions, a constant surprise to be around, and she made him smile more than he could remember in a long time. But how would she react if she knew how volatile his moods were, and how deep his emotional scars went? How would he feel knowing that the woman he was falling for wasn't everything she seemed?

I loved seeing Sawyer break out of her shell and really embrace all the joys life had to offer. Aden wasn't magically healed, but with her support was able to seek out the help he needed and become a source of inspiration for others. I appreciated the originality of the circumstances of how they met a lot. I do think that two weeks was a narrow amount of time for them to meet and fall head over heels, especially since they weren't open and honest about who they were. That didn't affect my enjoyment very much though, because overall I loved the message and the end leaves you on a satisfyingly high note.

Wrecked! Thats what this book done to me. I am now a fan of this author works. This is the second book i listen. In Wrecked, ot is a perfect combination of rom com, angst, PTSD, terminal illness.

The chemistry between Aiden and Sawyer build in perfect pace even though i found at the end (climax of Aiden PTSD) is bit dragging and too much. But nevertheless it still make everything in this book makes sense.

The secondary characters do not play major roles. But i still like it that way because it brings more shine into the topic of the story.

“Life is beautiful and terrifying … And we deserve to feel it down to our bones.”

5 stars!!!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS BOOK! Raw, dramatic and emotional yet sweet, fun and sexy with a beautifully romantic love story, this book captivated me from start to finish and I could not put it down. The writing is fantastic, the characters are wonderfully developed and the story made my heart race, made me laugh, made me cry, it made me so proud of the characters and their journeys, and it had me melting into a puddle of goo on the floor. I loved every moment and it’s definitely going down as a favourite for 2017.

Aden Colt was a proud and dedicated soldier on deployment in Afghanistan, but his world was shattered when a devastating betrayal resulted in the deaths of almost his entire unit. He’s back home now, but the horror, guilt and grief have followed him, and he struggles to control his anger, paranoia and the night terrors that continue to haunt him.

I know what it feels like to have something living inside that eats away at your sanity. They call it trauma, a deeply distressing experience, but God…it’s so much more. It’s alive and breathing, it eats and rarely sleeps, it’s a monster that demands attention and never ever gives in.

Sawyer Forrester is serious, uptight and highly strung. She lives her life according to a series of lists, and struggles to be social and step outside of her rigid boundaries. Her twin sister is terminally ill, and she makes her final request that Sawyer travel to her home in San Diego and pack up her belongings – but she needs to step outside of her own life and pretend to be her wild, vivacious sister while she is there. To take chances and truly experience all that life can be. Powerless to refuse her dying sister, Sawyer accepts.

I can’t change who I am, no matter how much I want to. The guilt and the self-hatred is frustrating and I’m so lost in who I am and who I wish I could be that somewhere along the way, I’ve lost my way.

It’s on her first day in San Diego that Sawyer meets Aden. She is attracted to him right from the beginning, but she knows that he is way out of her league. He is a gruff and surly fisherman who seems to live his life free and without rules, the kind of man that her sister should be with, not her. He feels similarly about her – there is an immediate attraction but she seems too uptight for him, yet there is something about her that intrigues him, leaving him with a sense of edginess that just won’t go away. Neither of them can stop thinking about each other, and when they see each other again, that spark starts to become something so much more.

I don’t want to say too much more about the story because you just need to experience this one. But OMG, I love these two together!!! The romance develops beautifully – it’s well paced, full of chemistry, and feels completely natural. It flows, and I could feel every moment between Aden and Sawyer as they openly admit their attraction to each other and act on it – even though they know that there is a limit on their time together.

“I should let you go.” My fingers dig into the soft flesh of her hips going against the words that tumble from my lips.
“Or maybe you should hold on.”

There are gorgeously sweet moments as they get to know each other, and their passion for each other is sizzling, and I fell in love right alongside them as, against all odds, they fall for each other.

“I don’t want to forget you.”
He pulls his shirt off over his head, his wide muscular chest on display and tensing with anticipation. “I’ll make sure you never will … I’ll mark your fucking soul … The way you’ve marked mine.”

And as beautiful as their romance is, there is so much more to their story. Aden and Sawyer are both damaged by their past experiences, and this book is a journey for both of them as they bring significant change to each other’s lives. Aden encourages Sawyer to step outside of the rigid confines of her life and truly live…

He makes me forget all I’m not and all I’m pretending to be. With him I’m someone different, not Celia or Sawyer, but just…me.

…and Sawyer provides Aden with the peace that he so desperately craves, making him want to move on from the past and find himself again.

I’m drowning in her.
In her touch, her effect, the way she looks at me as if she sees past the darkness in my soul to the man I was meant to be. The honorable man I was before. God, how I want to be that man again.

But the circumstances of their lives are difficult, and as functional as they are together, there are parts of their lives that make it impossible for them to have a future together. It’s a dramatic, emotional and heartbreaking journey for them both to find their way forward, and I felt every. single. moment.

“Nothing about us makes sense except for what I feel when I’m with you.”

It’s truly heartwrenching stuff, and I spent the whole book knowing that certain things were going to have to happen, and thinking I was prepared for it. Nope. Not even a little bit. The feels are intense, and I was completely lost in the story as it all unfolded, and God, I loved it!!! It hurt, but it’s so perfect for the story, and I couldn’t have seen it happening any other way. And THEN, there is the most perfect epilogue set years into the future and finishing off the story perfectly, leaving me with a huge grin on my face and tears in my eyes.

I can’t gush enough about this book. It’s a truly special read that is wonderfully written, and one that I happily lost myself in.

5 massive stars!

It is not as dark as it seems. It has its moments of sadness and laughter.

I easily became interested in the story. Aden Colt is a former soldier who, after retirement, still can not cope with what was happening on the battlefield. He is a loner and avoids people. He now lives on a boat and manages condoes on the coast. To one of them arrives Sawyer Forrester. They clash and quarrel. But there is also chemistry, with which is more and more difficult to deal with.

I really enjoyed this story. What I can complain about it is that too much has been said straight from the beginning. It was possible to create more twisted plot. But I was very fond of the characters and their interactions were hot and entertaining.

This is for those who like tortured souls and heroines who are just discovering themselves. Emotional, but also hot and with humor stories.

3,5 stars rounded up to 4

This is the love story of two broken people.

The hero Aden was in the army, fighting in a war in Iraq. Now, he has severe PTSD. He tries to stay away from crowds. He can only find peace in the open sea while he is fishing. He now lives in a boat.

The heroine Sawyer has OCD. She is germophobic. She had also a severe case of agoraphobia when she was younger. She is better now but she is afraid of too many things.

*********************************************

Sawyer's twin sister Celia has a brain tumor and she is dying. Her dying wish is that her twin sister Sawyer should go to the city she was living in, pack her things in the house she rented and live there for a few weeks pretending she is her. She doesn’t want anyone to cry after her. She wants them to remember her as she was in her good days and she wants them to think that she has just moved to another city.

*********************************************

Sawyer doesn’t want to do it for 2 reasons. She wants to be with her sister during her last days. And also, she says she can’t be as carefree, brave and spontaneous as her twin sister and so they will know she is not her. Celia says she will know what to do once she is there. She also gives Sawyer a coin and she says whenever she is faced with a hard decision, she should just throw the coin and act accordingly, leaving everything to fate.

In fact, Celia wants Sawyer to break her walls and learn to enjoy life. By pretending to be Celia, she believes Sawyer will change a bit.

(P.S. I found it stupid, if you ask me. Why didn't she try when she was healthy? Why didn't she try to do some of the adventurous things she did with her twin sister back then instead of doing it with strangers? Why did she leave her twin and travel the whole world but never spare enough time for her sister? Well, whatever...)

*********************************************

Finally, Sawyer gives in and agrees to do it. Of course, people are a bit shocked when they meet Sawyer, and they usually ask what is wrong with her 😊

And when Sawyer remembers this was her sister’s dying wish, she shows as much effort as possible to be like her sister, Celia. As people didn't know Celia had a twin, they have nothing else but to believe her.

*********************************************

Celia left her home in this city 6 months ago. Aden has been in living in this city for the past 3 months and when he meets Sawyer, he is the only one in town who doesn’t know Celia.

There is instant attraction between Aden and Sawyer. Aden has heard a lot about Celia becasue the whole town loves her, including his uncle, who is the owner of the house Celia rented.

Aden sometimes cannot put two and two together... What he learned about Celia and what he sees now sometimes doesn't add up; it sometimes doesn’t make sense to him but he just assumes she has changed a bit.

*********************************************

Both Sawyer and Aden are, in fact, people similar to each other; and maybe that’s why they are drawn to each other. They become closer each day she spends there.

These two are very passionate and hot together. Well, except for the first kiss scene. I just cringed a bit when he touched her face and hair and kissed her just after he cleaned the fish he caught and prepared sushi with his bare hands. Yuck!

Whatever, for most of the time, they were really hot together…

Sawyer starts to have strong feeling for Aden in a short time and she feels too bad because she's lying to him. She wants to confess but then she learns that Aden lost some of his men in the war because someone he trusted lied to him and they were ambushed. That’s why, she can't confess that she has been lying to him. And she believes that they do not have a future together as they live in different states and she thinks that he will eventually forget about her when she leaves. So why bother?!

However, their feelings grow stronger and stronger and the idea of separation feels scary for both of them. Aden tells her to stay but she can’t because she needs to go back to her sister and she is also sure that Aden will never forgive her for pretending.

First, I wasn’t sure about Aden’s feelings because it all seemed physical. When he lost himself in her body, his night terrors got less frequent. I was angry that he was using her for his comfort and I wished he would go to therapy instead. There has been a few times when he had these hallucinations and hurt Sawyer. He was too sorry afterwards.

Towards the end of the book, we learn that Aden goes to therapy so I am glad that the writer finally points out that love or sex is not the cure of PTSD but therapy is.

*********************************************

This book has a HEA but of course, there is the death of a side character.

I loved Sawyer and Aden together despite all my concerns. He made her feel pretty for the first time in her life. Celia has always been the one guys go after. Sawyer had never felt so desired and wanted in her life before Aden.

And with Aden, she was more peaceful, more fun and she enjoyed life more.

Safety:

As for safety, the hero has sex with another woman at the beginning of the book. No details are given, we just know they do it because they leave the bar and go to his place for it. She is a woman he sometimes casually hooks up with just for sex.

I didn’t mind it but I know some readers do so I am just putting the information here. It was after meeting the heroine but before Aden and Sawyer became a couple.

After they became a couple, there is no OW/OM drama, no cheating at all.

*********************************************

Writing:

The book is written in dual point of view. The writing is good. Although there were some scenes that made me feel bored, all in all, it was quite captivating.

*********************************************

“Freckles . . .” My hands caress her delicate cheeks. “Sawyer.” Her eyelids close as she seems to bathe in the sound of her name.

“You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to hear you call me that.”

“I’ll say it every day for the rest of our lives if you’ll have me.”

She blinks up at me. “Really?”

“Nothing will take you away from me again.”

description

I must admit that lately some romance and/ or erotica novels have had me rolling my eyes and skimming pages. The relationships seem forced. The love scene seem cheesy and drawn out. (More for word count and to "out do" something or someone else) .... well. Salsbury has restored my faith!! A true artist when it comes to romance! I'm not a "sweet tooth typical romance girl." (Not that I'm saying this is typical by any means but you hopefully get what I'm saying) I usually need large crazy twists, some darkness, death!! (Okay maybe not death....all the time *shrugs*) But I will admit. There are a few authors (very few!) that were born to write and their romances melt my black heart! Well, I've officially added Salsbury to that list! She had me swooning like a southern belle on Tara (#PointsForGoneWithTheWindReference).

I started this novel just before I left for vacation. I had so much to do and I found myself wondering. What are Sawyer and Aden doing? And how fast can I get back to reading!! (Adulting is hard!)

This novel touches on some very serious subjects and make no mistake it did make me cry, but it was SO MUCH MORE than that. J.B. Salsbury hooked me from the first page and if she didn't have me tearing up, I was swooning, and if I wasn't falling deeply in love with these amazing characters I was giggling at how sweet funny and cute they are. Aden and Swayer came to life on the pages and will forever have a place in my heart.

Sawyer and her sister, are day and night. While Sawyer is a planner... a list maker... a worrier... her sister is an adventurer, a spitfire...a fly by the seat of your pants kind of person. Everything changes when Sawyer's sister asks for a favor. A huge favor.

"In a world where I live in black and white and absolutes, my sister lives in tie-dye and liberations. All answers are right answers and even negative consequences serve a bigger purpose. It's insane. Anarchy. Chaos. Everything that makes my pulse race and my palms sweat."

Aden Colt is a marine just trying to stay in the shadows and leave the past as far away from him as his tormented soul will allow.

"The call it trauma, a deeply distressing experience, but God... it's so much more. it's alive and breathing, it eats and rarely sleeps, it's a monster that demands attention and never ever gives in. I understand hurting in a way that feels incurable, and no matter how many times people offer to hear it out, to take some of the burden, the idea that anyone would ever really understand the pain is laughable.

This is a beautiful standalone novel I would highly recommend. Pre-order is now available and the book goes live July 18th. I suggest pre-ordering for your instant reading pleasure!

5 stars!

Heartbreakingly beautiful. There were some heavy topics in this book but nevertheless it ended beautifully. Was hooked right from the first page!

Aden was an ex-military suffering from PTSD. My heart broke for him as he struggled to cope with it. Shutting out his family and friends, he isolated himself and lived in a fishing boat owned by his Uncle Cal.

Celia/Sawyer was never a risk taker. Unlike her twin, she was constantly in an anxious mode and lived by the rules. As a favor, she promised her twin to go back San Diego to pack up some of her belongings. The blurb didn't really mention a certain part and turned out to be a not-so-pleasant surprise but I like how it was handled.

It didn't take long before Aden met her and soon, both of them were stepping out of their comfort zones. She was doing things that she never thought she would; taking risks and living life to its fullest. i love how part of it happened because of Aden too.
There were plenty of light hearted moments in between the heart wrenching ones. Moments where Aden was struggling through the nightmares made me tear up because it felt so real. I laughed and cried throughout. It was truly a bittersweet journey of love, loss, strength and even self-love.
Definite 5 stars!!

Tortured hero, anyone? If you’re looking for a book that will instantly hook you and has fantastically complex characters you can’t help but root for, you should definitely check out Wrecked. It’s intense, sexy, yet still has enough light-hearted moments to balance out the dark. I really enjoyed this read!

“I’m fucking wrecked without you.”

After being honorably discharged, Aden Colt arrived back on American soil wrecked from his time overseas. The loss of his men because of his mistake haunts him, and he can’t escape his nightmares. He secludes himself in a boat off the coast of San Diego, where he’s either drinking or fishing. It’s a quiet, simple, if lonely life – but everything changes when Sawyer Forrester enters his life.

Sawyer travels to San Diego to fulfill her dying twin sister’s wish – to pretend to be her while packing up all of Celia’s belongings so that the people who knew Celia would remember her as the adventurous, lively woman she was, rather than the sick, bed-ridden woman she is now. As the sister who was always overshadowed, Sawyer thinks she’ll have a tough time channeling her inner Celia. Sawyer has slight OCD, is terrified of germs, and never goes on adventures, so how can she possibly fool anyone? What Sawyer doesn’t expect is to come to love her time as Celia because of Aden. Aden, who she feels a draw, a connection with. He opens up a new world for her and makes her see that she is capable of so much more than she realized.

It’s the way he makes me feel like I’m the only woman in the world. He responds to every word I say, every sound that slips unabashed from my lips, as if I’m giving him a secret he’s been desperate to discover. When we’re together it’s as if I’m the air and he’s begging for his next breath.

But even as the two are undeniably drawn towards one another and can’t help but fall for each other, Aden’s demon’s are never far away… and oh yeah, Aden thinks Sawyer is Celia. Aden and Sawyer have a lot going against them, but the chemistry and connection they have is unlike anything they’ve ever felt, so how can they not pursue it?

“I don’t want to forget you.”
“I’ll make sure you never will… I’ll mark your fucking soul.” His lips touch the shell of my ear and he whispers, “The way you’ve marked mine.”

I’ll admit, as much as I enjoyed the story, I had a hard time connecting with the characters, mainly because I just couldn’t relate to them. Despite that, I loved how clearly the author was able to convey all the emotions coursing through the pages. Sawyer and Aden go through a roller coaster of emotions, the highs and lows all perfectly balanced so that I was entertained the whole way through. If tortured souls and self-discovery is your jam, make sure to pick up Wrecked!

Wrecked was a standalone by JB Salsbury. It wasn’t my first book by the author, but it was my first standalone.

Aden Colt was ex-military suffering from PTSD. So much so that he isolated himself from just about everyone else in the world and lived on his uncle’s fishing boat. Aside from his illness, he was gorgeous, strong, sexy and all alpha male.

Sawyer Forrester was a twin. She was the conservative, risk-avoidant, organized twin while her sister was the carefree adventurous one. The two couldn’t be more different in everything except their beautiful looks.

As a favor to her sister, Sawyer was visiting the ocean town for a few weeks and was experiencing life through her sister’s eyes. That’s where she met Aden and the real story began.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from reading the book description. I knew it would be emotional but it also had an unexpected sweet and vulnerable vibe to it. Mixed in with Aden’s alpha strength and I was a goner. Both characters had some serious baggage, but in the end it was a journey of healing, acceptance, learning to thrive and love.

The book was so much more than I could put in a review. No spoilers, so no elaboration, but it was a tug of war with my emotions. Ultimately, I loved it and it was worth every evoked feeling.

Get ready for a really emotional ride with this one. Obviously from the blurb, you already know some of the subject matter we're dealing with with Aden but it doesn't even scratch the surface with the overall story. Everything about the journey of Sawyer and Aden was laced with some kind of emotion. The story will tug at your heart thru its entirety ... in a very good way. I wouldn't call this book an ugly cry book, but my tears were ready to shed at all times.

Both Aden and Sawyer both have growth journeys in their road to HEA and that makes me really happy. It means that J.B. Salsbury did it right LOL Aden had to work thru his own trauma and Sawyer had to gain inner strength before they could even be what they needed for each other. JB Salsbury accomplished that perfectly and seamlessly. She developed her characters thoroughly and the story unfolded perfectly. I loved every word!

I would LOVE to have a summer like this one!Sawyer and Aden were incredible together as a couple,i loved their cute banter, flirting and the way they connected. There are lots of angst Salsbury know how to deliver and make the whole ride worthwile of its sweetness! This is definitely a book i can re-read in the future.

" Porque la vida es hermosa y aterradora. Y merecemos sentirla hasta los huesos. "

I am a huge fan of JB's books, and after reading the blurb of Wrecked I couldn't wait to get my hands on the book. It was a very emotional and heartbreaking story. I couldn't contain my tears and had to keep tissues near me. I read this book during my vacation, so I didn't have a lot of privacy, so I had to keep my tears on lock-down (it didn't work). I can always depend on this author to come up with unique storylines and very interesting characters. My heart went out to both Aden and Sawyer. Both have so much baggage and are trying to survive, and I just loved seeing them heal each other. Wrecked is a beautiful but emotional contemporary romance that will have you smiling one moment and crying the next. I highly recommend this book.
