Social Guide

Prepare for your Gardens experience with our social guide. This guide contains photographs and descriptions of what to expect during your visit, helpful tips for finding quiet spaces, and more.

Maps

Printed maps are available in our Visitor Center, and you may download our map and print it at home prior to your visit to bring along with you. Our mobile map, which shows accessible paths, can help you plan ahead, as well as guide you through our Gardens during your visit.

Parking & Entry

Our double traffic lane in front of the Visitor Center allows our guests to drop off passengers at the main entrance before parking. Guests with a valid disability parking permit will find reserved accessible parking at the front of the parking lot close to the Visitor Center entrance.

The Gardens entrance is barrier-free and accessible to visitors using wheeled devices or those with mobility difficulties. Passengers are able to be dropped off in close proximity to the entrance if needed. The entrance also has electric push-button doors for easy entry.

Getting Around the Gardens

With nearly 200 acres to explore, there is plenty of room to experience our Gardens.

The Conservatory and Terrace Restaurant areas are about a 5- to 10-minute walk at a leisurely pace from the Visitor Center. The Meadow Garden features more than 3 miles of hiking trails, with one fully accessible treehouse, our Lookout Loft Treehouse, located along the edge of the Meadow Garden.

We offer a limited number of wheelchairs for rental on a complimentary, first-come, first-served basis. These wheelchairs are available outside of the Visitor Center. Electric scooter rentals and strollers are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the rentals area in the Visitor Center.

Most garden paths are wide and paved; please refer to our suggested wheelchair route on our mobile map and print-friendly map. The Lookout Loft Treehouse is the only accessible treehouse in our Gardens. The Chimes Tower and some of the Peirce-du Pont House are not wheelchair accessible.

You are welcome and strongly encouraged to bring your own personal mobility device for use throughout the grounds. Personal mobility devices that have less than three wheels or a device that cannot stand on its own in an upright position when unoccupied are not permitted. Devices must be single rider and operated at a walking pace.

Recreational vehicles are not permitted. There is no shuttle service in the Gardens.

Elevators

Elevators are located in the following spaces:

Most restrooms and drinking fountains throughout the Gardens are wheelchair-accessible. Designated wheelchair-accessible restrooms can be found along the Green Wall located in the Conservatory.

Changing tables are available in each of the restrooms.

Additionally, you will find a private nursing room along the Green Wall in the Conservatory.
