헝가리의 성탄극은 기독교 전례와 민중의 축제가 결합된 독특한 민속극으로전해져 내려온다. 기독교의 가장 큰 축제인 성탄절에 마을 주민들이 함께 모여공연하고 즐기던 행진과 공연은 헝가리 민중의 삶과 희망, 가치가 녹아있는 성탄극으로, 본문에서는 그 극의 갈래와 구성에 대하여 분석하였다. 성탄극은 성 가정의 행진 - 낙원극 - 예수 탄생극 - 헤로데 극의 4 갈래로 분화되어 이어져 왔고, 각각 12월 15일에서 24일, 24일 오후, 24일 자정, 1월 6일에 공연되었다. 성탄극은 예수 탄생이라는 하나의 주제를 정점으로 모두 연결되어있다. 극은사건의 전후 순서에 따라서 배열되며, 한 극은 한 사건에 집중되어 독립적 형태의 극으로 완결된다. <성 가정의 행진>은 예수 탄생 전에 잠자리를 찾는 내용이기 때문에 가장 먼저 공연되었다. 다음으로 <낙원극>은 아담과 이브가 선악과를따먹고 낙원에서 추방되어 슬픔에 빠지지만, 바로 그 순간 앞으로 구세주가 그들을 다시 낙원에 데리고 들어갈 것이라는 창조주의 구원 약속을 얻는다. 그 약속의 결과로 <예수 탄생극>에서 구세주 예수의 탄생이 구현된다. 천사가 목동에게나타나 예수의 탄생을 알리자, 목동들이 아기 예수를 찾아 경배하기 때문에 이극에는 목동이 중요한 등장인물이다. 마지막으로 구세주의 탄생이 별을 통해 알려지고, 동방의 세 왕이 예수를 찾아 경배하러 오자 헤로데 왕은 자신의 지배력을 빼앗길까 두려워 예수를 없애려고 하지만, 성공하지 못하는 <헤로데 극>이 대미를 장식한다. 헝가리에서 성탄은 새해를 맞는 전환점이며 한 해를 보내는 의미심장한 시기였다. 그래서 민간에서 행해오던 여러 풍속들이 종교와 함께 결합하여 특수한 형태로 유지되고 있다. 이 논문에서는 성탄극이 성경에 뿌리를 두고 있지만 헝가리만의 독특한 특징과 결합하여 발전하였음을 확인하였다. 성탄극은 예수 탄생의기쁜 소식에서 출발하여, 헝가리의 전통 의상, 특별한 분장과 도구, 전통 음식과악을 쫓는 민간의 의식까지 포함하고 있다. 그러므로 헝가리의 성탄극은 단순한종교적인 극이 아니며, 헝가리 민중의 생활을 엿볼 수 있는 민속극으로 독특한특징과 가치를 지니고 있다.
The Bethlehem play had been the most popular Christmas Tradition in Hungarian speaking areas. It was divided in four dramas : Saint family's march, Paradise drama, Bethlehem drama and Herod drama. The first one is the requesting the lodging facilities. From December 15. man brought the holy family's pictures and sculptures to their neighbours. Man prayed and sang together, and left those there until the next morning. In a village man made a 9 family community and played this game. The most popular folk dramas in Hungary are Paradise Play and Bethlehem Play. The one performed on every Christmas Eve. It began as a tragic story that the mankind lost the paradise, but later turned out to be a happy story that Jesus was borne and he would save all the mankind. The other did on the very Christmas Day. These two types of dramas are performed in many places up to now because these dramas have something in the performance to appeal people's feeling, life and long traditions. In this article, I layed great emphasis on the Christmas drama to find the hungarian folk drama's speciality. In the past, Christmas was not only religious holiday, but also the new year's day. It is needless to say that in a new year's day there were many special rules and taboos. The Bethlehem Play's performance embraced traditional and national elements as well as the religious ones. In the Bethlehem play has a shepherds' dance was performed by the actors. The Shepherds play a circle dance with the mask and the clothes turned out. They hang on their sticks and tap at the ground. They usually put the pebbles into the downside of the sticks, so the sticks rattled in the bumped pebbles. The scholar insisted that the shepherd's dance showed an old hungarian magical cult. The last Christmas drama is the Herod drama that was shown at the Epiphany. Herod asked the three orient kings to adore Jesus and report him where Jesus was borne. The first step of the drama is to carry out a large star that wad made of tree. All of the village's inhabitant celebrated together.
