Spiked Apple Cider in Copper Mug with Cinnamon Stick and Apple Garnish

Hello, friends! Although fall is still a few days away (officially), we’re definitely feeling it here. The trees are changing drastically with each passing day, setting a pretty autumn scene of warmer colours.

I must say there’s something in me that’s finally ready to let go and embrace the season. It truly is a beautiful one, wouldn’t you agree?

To switch gears, I’m sharing a fall drink recipe that can be enjoyed two ways. Serve it cold on those warm (even hot) autumn days or, on chilly days, try heating it up. September is one of those confusing months when the temperatures are unpredictable. One day I’m wearing sandals and the next day it’s boots. So strange!

Spiked Apple Cider

If you’re like me and love anything apple, this easy spiked apple cider cocktail is one to try. I love the subtle spices mixed with the apple goodness. It’s a perfect drink idea for fall parties, Thanksgiving or any old regular day of the week!

Spiked Apple Cider Ingredients

  • ice
  • spiced rum
  • ground cinnamon
  • freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • pure maple syrup
  • apple cider
  • apple slice and cinnamon stick (for garnish)

The full list of ingredients and instructions are in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post.

Ingredient Tip: When it comes to selecting apple cider, go for unfiltered apple juice not from concentrate. I used a Honeycrisp version that’s a great balance between sweet and tart.

How to Make Spiked Apple Cider

Step 1: Fill a mug or glass quarter way with ice (for cold version). Add rum.

Step 2: Stir in ground cinnamon, lemon juice, maple syrup and apple cider (hot or cold). Mix well.

Step 3: Garnish with an apple slice and cinnamon stick.

Drink Mixing Tips

Try playing around with the ingredients in this drink recipe to come up with the right balance for you. I prefer less alcohol, so I go a little heavier with the cinnamon for added punch. You may want to adjust the lemon juice or maple syrup depending on the flavour of your apple cider.

This spiked apple cider recipe makes one serving, but can easily be doubled, tripled, etc. Whip up a pitcher for your fall dinner party or special occasion. Enjoy!

Other Mixers for Apple Cider

Although we prefer spiced rum with our apple cider, you may also want to try whiskey, brandy or bourbon.

For the garnish, you could also use dried apple slices.

Shop Moscow Mule Mugs

If you’re looking for beautiful copper mugs (aka Moscow Mule mugs) to serve your cold version in, I’ve rounded up a few of my favourites. Copper and fall go together perfectly! I suggest using a glass or ceramic mug for the hot drink.

Wow! This spiced Apple Cider looks really yummy. I have made it previously but haven’t used the maple syrup before. I love maple syrup and it is exciting for me to try this recipe.
