Over the weekend, news emerged that one unlucky 2020 Corvette C8 owner has had their transmission fail with only 32 miles on the clock.
As reported on Carbuzz, the unnamed owner was driving the car conservatively, following all the break in procedure rules.
Unfortunately, the transmission threw a code related to limited-slip differential fluid pressures. As well, upon inspection at the dealership, the transmission also has a minor fluid leak.
The transmission will be removed and sent directly to Tremec, the builders of the C8’s DCT, for a teardown and investigation. In the meantime, a new transmission will be installed into the car under warranty.
There are no red flags surrounding the failure, however. With any new car, with new parts, some mechanical failures are to be expected.
The article also references the start of the C7 generation in 2014, when the then-new LT1 engine experienced catastrophic failure under certain conditions.
One can only hope with the data that Tremec will gain from their investigation, that retroactive firmware can be uploaded to all the current cars. As well, now that it is an issue that is known, Tremec should be able to tweak their production so that no further leaks or pressure drops occur inside normal usage.
