Siri is now allowing Volkswagen drivers to unlock their cars with just the command of their voice. We all know that life in 2018... Volkswagen drivers can now unlock their cars just by talking to Apple’s Siri

Siri is now allowing Volkswagen drivers to unlock their cars with just the command of their voice.

We all know that life in 2018 can be pretty busy. Often you rush to your vehicle with your hands full of the most essential things – your workbag, your laptop and the all important first coffee of the morning.

Now, thanks to Volkswagen introducing a Siri integration on its Car-Net app, you will be able to unlock your car with ease. Just say “Hey Siri, unlock my car”, and the magic will be done.

Abdullah Shanti, global chief information officer for Volkswagen Brand & Car-IT, welcomed the new development.

“We are constantly looking at innovative ways to make VW Car-Net more convenient and relevant for our customers,” he said in a statement.

“With Siri Shortcuts, creating voice commands to use with our mobile app was a great opportunity to do just that. Integration with Siri helps our drivers keep eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.”

What else will Siri do to improve my drive?

There are also other new Siri Shortcuts designed to make your driving life more efficient. You can now check estimated mileage with your current fuel level, or the amount of charge left in the vehicle.

Moreover, you can set alarms, defrost and fan settings and also adjust the temperature. That’s before mentioning that you can also find out where your car is parked, just by giving a command.

It is also no secret that ‘winter is coming’. With this application you will be able to remotely switch on your car and make it nice and toasty before you even open the door. No more shivering in your car waiting for it to warm up on a chilly morning.

How do I get this Siri magic in my life?

This handy life-hack will work with Apple devices on iOS 12, once you have logged into the Car-Net App.

The service is currently only available in America. You will also have to pay for the privilege, understandably. The Car-Net app is a subscription service that, at time of typing, costs $17.99 per month or $199 a year.

It is certainly an exciting time for driving tech. Just last year the same leading car manufacturer announced that it would be integrating Amazon’s Alexa into its vehicles.

Mashable report that it is part of a wave of other carmakers searching for ways of integrating assistants into their vehicles. Meanwhile The Verge comment on how Apple is currently having to play catch-up in this market.
