Words can’t express how much I loved this book. Emma Scott once again slayed in. The Girl in the Love Song is such an epic friends to lovers story and it blew me away.
Miller and Violet meet for the first time when they’re just thirteen. Their lives are so different, but the develop the most beautiful friendship. It’s the kind of friendship that you never doubt. You know that person is your person and they have your back always.
Miller’s life is hard. Violets is too, but in a different way. These two are always there to support one another and you see them growing up together. You see them fall in love. The problem is, that they’re both terrified to be together. To lose the most important relationship of their lives.
Although this book featured Miller and Violet when they were adults towards the end, it had much more of a YA/NA feel to it since most of it took place during their high school years. That’s my favorite type of read so I was so excited to see some YA goodness and first love angst here.
This was a beautiful story of friendship and first loves, but it was also deep and had some heavy moments. Homelessness and chronic diseases are two that were done really well in my opinion . I love that Emma’s books always give me all the feels. It’s my favorite thing when I’m reading. I want all the emotion and I want to be moved. This story moved me.
Miller and Violet’s romance was stunning. I couldn’t have loved it more. Miller was one of the sweetest and selfless heroes and I loved how determined and strong Violet was. They really did make the best pair.
After reading The Girl in the Love Song I am insanely excited for the next two lost boys to get their own stories. I’m enamored with both of them and I can’t wait to read more from this group. If you’re looking for a sweet, emotional, angsty, and completely outstanding romance, pick up this book! I know it will be on my top reads of 2020 and I recommend it to all!

... An epic tale of young love.
Once in a blue moon does a book impact me like this one did. This is ridiculously emotional and in-depth — full of life and soul. My first favourite book this year!
Note: This is a friends to lovers romance.
I can't write a review without spoiling anything. But, I will try because I really wanted to share how amazing this book was!
Violet aspired to be a doctor someday. It's her greatest vision. Miller, homeless and diagnosed with a rare type of diabetes (Diabetic Hyperosmolar Syndrome), dreamed of being a musician. His guitar was the only thing that made him sane until Violet. Violet and Miller realized that they loved each other since they were 13 years old. But, they hid their own feelings because of stubborness and personal beliefs.
Social status separated them. Violet has her own circle of friends while Miller was usually alone. Until Ronan (I can't wait for Ronan's story). Jealousy and insecurities ruled them then. They tried to erase their feelings. Dated someone. But only made fool of themselves.
Miller, an outcast, was known and seen in his senior year because of his talent, when he made it public. He only sang for Violet in the past. She's the girl in his love songs. Always have been. When Miller was in the road for fame, fate changed their plans and totally set them apart.
There's so much more! And you really should read this if you want to find out what happened next, because I don't trust myself anymore to never spoil this book for another second. Pardon me, I just can't help myself. The story was infectious.
A Girl in the Love Song was remarkably good. A so so great way to start my year! I'm very glad that I chose to read Emma Scott's book. She just wowed me, again. And that's why she's my favourite author.
So, if you trust Scott's talent like I do, you better not miss this!

THE GIRL IN THE LOVE SONG: is the first full length coming of age romance book in the series 'Lost Boys', by Emma Scott. This is Violet and Miller's story. Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives.' This book was everything! Amazing!! Outstanding!! All-Consuming, I Loved everything about it!!
First it was the author shouting that she had a new series coming out, then it was the cover and the synopsis, and then my anticipation levels sky rocketed because this is one of my unicorn authors. As soon as this arrived on my kindle. Life was put on hold!!
The beginning of this book was everything, this laid the perfect foundation of their blossoming friendship, the day these two met it was Violet's thirteenth birthday. She was daydreaming about a guy she's had a crush on forever, until a boy appears in her backyard seemingly appearing out of thin air. She takes note of his unkempt attire and upon closer scrutiny she can't help but notice how hungry he appeared to be, it's then she invites him in and shares her birthday cake with him. This act of kindness solidifies such a unique bond between the two. They become fast friends.

So many emotions, books like this are my kryptonite, I chase that high, I crave those lows, I loved those roller coaster feels that this book evoked. And that was only the first part of their story. A bond like no other is formed between the two.
He's the boy who has an unstable home life, the boy that climbs in her bedroom window night after night, she's the girl that cares for him, nurtures him, she's the girl that saves him.
She's the girl who has her life mapped out for her, becoming a doctor is all she's ever dreamed about. He's the boy who hides his love in his lyrics, an impossible dream of making it big so that he can take care of his mother.
Now four years later..Age seventeen
This is where things start to change out of their control. Slowly they start to drift apart, living separate lives, interacting with different people. Sharing new experiences with others.
So many missed opportunities, so many obstacles that stood in their way.
Miller wasn't from a wealthy family since it was just him and his mum and life was an uphill battle, this resulted in Miller getting bullied from one certain mean boy at school, but when two new boys enter the fold (Holden and Ronan) and have Miller's back my heart was near to bursting. God how I loved these two boys!!
The author wrapped this one up perfectly, it was so much more than a rocker romance book, this book took me by surprise, the highs and lows made for such an emotional angst packed romance read.

so basically, this was me in a nutshell:
oh my f god these two frustrated me in the beginning.
obviously, since this has the childhood best friends to lovers trope, y'all know there will be some teenage angst in this one where the MCs deny they like each other and then be with other people to push the other away. was it too bad? nah i don't think so, i've read worst but yup. im pretty sure y'all would yell at them to stop being stupid and be together at one point.
even though both MCs frustrated me in the beginning, i still liked both of them. they were both so sweet and too nice for my liking and their kindness can sometimes lead them into doing stupid shit - *cough* Miller & Amber *cough* - but most of the time, their generosity can literally save lives.

I CANT STOP PICTURING HIM AS HARRY STYLES. like im sorry i cant. i aint complaining tho. i really like him in the beginning and i felt so bad for him because he loved Violet so much and she just kept low key rejecting him. but after he did that and still kept doing it for 5-6 months, my annoyance transferred onto him because by then, i didn't really feel his pining or regret.
honestly, even though i liked them - despite them annoying the hell outta me - i just couldn't connect with both of them. they barely interacted with one another in parts 1 and 2 because of all the other plots that were happening, i also couldn't connect with their romance. i didn't feel their passion or any other overwhelming emotions that i should feel because of the time jumps and there was also a lot of telling >>> showing.
OW/OM drama (spoilers)
gotta be honest here, before that scene where you know, h sees H getting a bj from OW 4 days after their first kiss, i was like fuck it he can be with any OW i don't care anymore. but when the scene actually came up?? im like HA HA HA never mind i fucking hate this. then the H is "honorable" so instead of ghosting OW, he dates her for 5-6 months, where apparently they did nothing and instead did a lot of "aggressive cuddling". my neurotic obssessive self obviously googled what aggressive cuddling means and apparently it means heavy petting?? but i dont think they did ANYTHING cuz according to H and OW, they barely even kissed each other (the H kissing her only when he's drunk). so yeah i don't think they did any of the bases if you know what i mean.
also, the whole Evelyn drama was unnecessary and stupid in my humble opinion.
i didn't care about the OM drama because i spoiled myself and i know who the next book is about but the h did kiss him a few days after she kissed Miller (he cheated on the OW cuz of this cuz they haven't broken up yet). i was kind of annoyed with this just cuz she felt more regret than Miller did. i personally dont think she should've felt regret cuz at least Miller didn't see her kiss the OM 🙄

im excited for the next books cuz Holden and River, and Ronan and Shiloh are chef's kiss material. i was more excited with Ronan and Shiloh tho since i was more interested on whats happening with them compared to Violet and Miller. i love the bromance in this book and i wish there were more scenes of the bromance mainly because i needed more Holden cuz i love him. i need more of his bougee, eccentric self in my life.
i wish this friend group reunited in the epilogue but we instead got a scene where they adopted this kid. that scene was wholesome but wasn't developed enough that's why i didn't cry. honestly, most of the things here were underdeveloped cuz of the time jumps.
all in all, i didn't really feel anything here and i don't know if that's a me thing and i turned into a cold bishh but yeah... also, part 4 was way too short and the telling >>> showing made the whole rockstar thing so weird to me.

They instantly become best friends and hung out the whole summer but then Violet finds out that Miller was homeless this whole time, living in a car, and also discovers that he has diabetes which almost killed him.
Both of them realized they were in love with one another but Violet didn't do anything because she's scared they would turn into her parents (falling out of love). Miller has been pining for years and has unrequited (but not so unrequited) love for Violet and he was about to profess his love for her but pushes her away because he has abandonment issues. there are 4 parts in this story which all takes place in 3 years or so.《

Emma Scott is the QUEEN OF SOFT ROMANCES. There I said it. There is not a single characters in all of her books that I didn't like. These characters are not perfect by any means, but they radiate so much GOODNESS and KINDNESS through the pages. Her books remind me that no matter what tragedy strikes, you can come out better and stronger.
The Girl in the Love Song is about Miller Stratton (H) and Violet McNamara (h). The story start when they meet the first time at the age of 13 and follows them until they're 20. The books is divided into 4 parts. Their journal is a rollercoaster with lots of ups and downs. I've laughed and cried with them but the end will make you very happy.
WHAT I LOVED:
– THE MAIN CHARACTERS: Miller and Violets are precious cinnamon rolls and I just wanted to protect them all the time, especially Miller. My heart broke for him, he had such a shitty past, but didn't let that past define who he is as a person. Throughout the book, he stayed true to himself and never strayed from his values. Even when Miller becomes a rockstar, he is not like all other rockstars that's what I can tell you. Miller's biggest fan is Violet and I loved how supportive Violet was. She's the first person in his life that believed Miller is going to make it big. PLEASE FIND SOMEONE WHO BELIEVES IN YOU THE WAY VIOLET BELIEVES IN MILLER!
– THE ROMANCE: some of you may know that I hate the childhood best friends to lovers trope. It's just boring to me but Emma made it work (maybe I'm just biased ngl 😂). Violet and Miller have the softest romance. They love and trust each other unconditionally. I love that they talk about their problems and try to solve them. We love good communication skills. For a moment I thought Emma Scott would pull another Full Tilt on me but she did not and my heart can't thanks her enough.
– THE FOUND FAMILY: good friendships is my kryptonite and the friendship between these characters was just beautiful. I loved Violet and Shiloh (Violet's bf) friendship, but the trio that stole my heart was defintely the LOST BOYS (Miller, Holden & Ronan). The 3 misfits, the outcasts, the weirdos of the school. Every one of them could not be more different the other, but they form such a beautiful bond. All their scenes together made me so happy. The way they always have each other's back, I love them so much. Thanks for giving me this beautiful trio, I didn't know I needed.
– THE EPILOGUE: yeah it made me cry. It was beautiful. Miller and Violet finally get their hard earned happy ending. There was such a nice surprise I didn't expect.
– Additionally to the playlist that is usually at the beginning of a book, Emma wrote two songs for TGITL cause Miller is a musician. When you get to the scenes where Miller is singing his songs there is a spotify link you can click on and then you hear the song! I thought that was a pretty cool experience and brought the book alive.
WHY NOT 5 STARS?
Even though I really love Miller and Violet as characters. Some of their actions really frustrated the hell out of me. I'm not a huuuge fan of high school romance and the reason is because the characters are still so young and make so many mistakes which can annoy me. They're in that age where they do a lot of growing up and making mistakes is part of it, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with or like all of their choices. Like I understand why they did it, but I wanted to lock them into a room so badly 😂

– THE MAIN CHARACTERS: Miller and Violets are precious cinnamon rolls and I just wanted to protect them all the time, especially Miller. My heart broke for him, he had such a shitty past, but didn't let that past define who he is as a person. Throughout the book, he stayed true to himself and never strayed from his values. Even when Miller becomes a rockstar, he is not like all other rockstars that's what I can tell you. Miller's biggest fan is Violet and I loved how supportive Violet was. She's the first person in his life that believed Miller is going to make it big. PLEASE FIND SOMEONE WHO BELIEVES IN YOU THE WAY VIOLET BELIEVES IN MILLER!
– THE ROMANCE: some of you may know that I hate the childhood best friends to lovers trope. It's just boring to me but Emma made it work (maybe I'm just biased ngl 😂). Violet and Miller have the softest romance. They love and trust each other unconditionally. I love that they talk about their problems and try to solve them. We love good communication skills. For a moment I thought Emma Scott would pull another Full Tilt on me but she did not and my heart can't thanks her enough.
– THE FOUND FAMILY: good friendships is my kryptonite and the friendship between these characters was just beautiful. I loved Violet and Shiloh (Violet's bf) friendship, but the trio that stole my heart was defintely the LOST BOYS (Miller, Holden & Ronan). The 3 misfits, the outcasts, the weirdos of the school. Every one of them could not be more different the other, but they form such a beautiful bond. All their scenes together made me so happy. The way they always have each other's back, I love them so much. Thanks for giving me this beautiful trio, I didn't know I needed.
– THE EPILOGUE: yeah it made me cry. It was beautiful. Miller and Violet finally get their hard earned happy ending. There was such a nice surprise I didn't expect.
– Additionally to the playlist that is usually at the beginning of a book, Emma wrote two songs for TGITL cause Miller is a musician. When you get to the scenes where Miller is singing his songs there is a spotify link you can click on and then you hear the song! I thought that was a pretty cool experience and brought the book alive.
WHY NOT 5 STARS?
Even though I really love Miller and Violet as characters. Some of their actions really frustrated the hell out of me. I'm not a huuuge fan of high school romance and the reason is because the characters are still so young and make so many mistakes which can annoy me. They're in that age where they do a lot of growing up and making mistakes is part of it, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with or like all of their choices. Like I understand why they did it, but I wanted to lock them into a room so badly 😂

The teenage angst in this one was killing me!! I’ve been so excited to read this book even though I’m not the hugest fan when it comes to highschool romances as I can no longer bear the frustration, but Violet and Miller were so precious I couldn’t help but love them even when they frustrated the hell out of me.
I love how Emma Scott writes soft emotional books that slowly tear your heart. I love how she puts her characters in the toughest most hopeless situations that you start to wonder how they’re gonna make it. If they gonna make it. Miller and Violet first encounter was so adorable. They became best friends when they were only thirteen then slowly it started to develop into something more. They both didn’t have the easiest life, so they’re terrified of their feelings and that’s when the teenage angst and frustration start. There were moments that I wished I could just smack their heads and force them to finally talk and kiss. I know that they’re young and frustrated as well but man if they could just talk!!
The writing was beyond beautiful and I loved the side characters, dare I even say, more that the main ones? Can we just get Ronan and Shiloh’s book already? I loved the characters development, watching them grow, and how they believed and supported each other. I loved those lost boys, loved the friendship, and how they found family in each other. And that epilogue was so freakin beautiful!!

The Girl in the Love Song is an emotional and beautiful coming of age romance. The character and world building is exceptional. What blows me away every time I read an Emma Scott book is in particular the character building and development. Here it’s not just Violet and Miller but the secondary characters as well.
Violet and Miller meet at age thirteen and forms a special bond and friendship. It’s exquisitely explored through their actions and dialogue. There was no doubt in my mind that these two kids had a special friendship and was destined to be more. Soul mates. Lovers. A future together. That’s a testament to the flawless writing.
The story is heavy on emotion and it had to be when it deals with topics such as being homeless, broke, sexuality and health issues. It added depth to the characters and a relatability that only strengthened my connection to them. I was invested and intrigued.
Violet and Miller’s story isn’t an easy one. It’s a roller coaster ride of emotions thanks to these characters and the choices they make as they navigate their way through high school and life.
It pulled on my heartstrings and what I take away from this story is hope and perseverance.

This book was just beautiful.
Rock-Star-Romances are my favorite kinds of books. And this one was just perfect. Even if it's not really a rock star romance most of the time...I still loved it.
It starts as this heartbreaking teenager story and then we grow a bit older and it turns into a heartbreaking highschool, rock star, coming-of-age, love story drama.
Ugh. I cried a lot!
Such a sweet and sad story.
I hated Violet a little bit here and there. We get why she doesn't want to destroy their friendship with romance. But ugh. Poor Miller!
I don't really want to say much more. I don't want to spoil things. It was a beautiful love story with ALL THE FEELS! That's all you need to know to start reading!
I also really loved the other two lost boys and their love interests! Can't wait to read their stories!
What I didn't really love - even though it's beautiful ... the cover. The guy looks like an old 25 or a young 40. But definitely not like a 17 year old boy. And also the blurb should've maybe concentrated more on telling us that this was going to be a Young Adult Highschool Dramance. I was expecting only a couple of back-in-time chapters and then a real adult or college and rock star life book. BUT - I really loved what I got instead. It was a beautiful book... just that the cover and blurb might lead the reader in the wrong direction.
And another thing - purely my fault I'm sure.... I thought that the LOST BOYS was the name of the band - and we'd get three rock star romances! But nope. Only Miller is the rock star here. The other two will have completely different heartbreaking stories - we already heard some about their lives, but just tiny little snippets. Can't wait!
Another tiny little thing - which is kind of a mega huge thing in the book - I'm putting it in a spoiler - please don't read it if you're scared of being spoiled - but it's not about the end or anything that happens late into the book...but still!

I am not a YA genre reader I can not lie, but sometimes extraordinary authors can change your mind and Emma Scott is one of those authors. The Girl in the Love Song is a sweet, heartbreaking, coming of age story of how young friends, Miller and Violet, navigate high school and the feelings that start at the age of 13. It’s a beautifully poignant compassionate friends to lovers read also dives into many tough and compelling topics.
Young love doesn’t usually last but there are those extraordinary times when it does. It’s not easy or simple because the teen years are tumultuous and heavy. But there is also an innocence that accompanies all the teenage turmoil and Miller and Violet are right there in the center of it all. They meet at 13 and become best friends and promise to be there for one another no matter what.
There is a lot to this story besides young love. There is a major health issue, there is homelessness, there is high school angsty, and there is the coming together of people who are outsiders. I walked the walk with them and felt all their feelings. Besides Miller and Violet, I loved Holden, Ronan, Shiloh, River and even Evelyn. I know I haven’t said much about the plot of the story but it just such a sweet extraordinary wonderful story that I think it should be read without knowing much beside the blurb.
Emma Scott knows how to deliver the feels. The genre doesn’t matter in her writing. She connects with your soul and opens it up to experience all emotions. The Girl in the Love Song is wonderful and I recommend for all to read. It touched me and made me feel and I can’t wait for more of the Lost Boys because while they may be LOST, they definitely are human and want and need love.

Wow!! I’ve been getting ready to go on a trip so the first day I started I wasn’t able to read much but yesterday I finished the last 70%! I was up u til 4 AM reading! I could not put it down!!
Miller and Violet were were brought up on two different sides of the tracks but that didn’t stop the instant friendship maybe even love that blossomed between them! But they had both been hurt in their past to think that anything other than friendship could be between them. And it seemed that anytime one would decide to give it a shot at times either something or someone was standing between them!
Gosh, I was so rooting for these two but it seemed they were never on the same track!! There were times that I wanted to throw my kindle!
There were characters I loved and others not so much (Evelyn!😒)
And can I just say how much I love Miller! He’s sweet, sexy and so swoony playing his guitar and writing his songs! 😍

If this book did not have any explicit scenes between minors, this would be a solid 3 stars. Yet it does and I can't forget and won't forget.
I think I am also super mad because this was so avoidable. There were sooo many time skips (even if some felt quite unnecessary) that this could have happened when they were 18 or out of high school since it was senior year but no.

Oh my gosh! Definitely my favorite book of the year!!! This has aaalll the feels!!!
I fell in love with both Violet and Miller from the very beginning but as they pulled me further and further into their story, I fell in love even more. They became real to me as did their struggles, their disappointments, and their love. I experienced every emotion they did, crying when they cried, raging when they raged and cheering when they cheered.
This begins when Violet and Miller are thirteen and then takes us through the years into young adulthood. So of course there is going to be a certain amount of angst involved, afterall, we’re talking teenagers here. And that’s part of what makes this so wonderful. To watch them meet, fall in love, struggle with life and find a happy ending had my heart twisted in knots so many times before finally allowing it to find peace.
Ms. Scott knows how to tell a story in words so sublime it will reach deep into your soul and awaken a part of you you didn’t even know existed. When you add a hero and heroine that are as real as any you’ve ever read before and supporting characters that make you crave more from them, you’ve definitely found the perfect read. That’s what I found with A Girl in the Love song.

I love this author and I enjoyed these characters for the most part, but I am just not a fan of the friends to lovers trope and the ending of this book got way too cheesy and unrealistic for me. And I didn’t realize sooo much of this story would be YA.

The Girl in the Love Song is absolutely heartbreakingly beautiful. A wonderful coming of age love story that evoked so much emotions in me that I’m 100% certain this book will be on my list of top favorites for 2020. The writing, the storytelling, the characters, the pacing, literally every facet of the book is exquisitely done.
Miller and Violet's journey enraptured me from the very first page and I lost myself in their tale. The relationship between them was beautiful and I fell in love with both of them. Their story had so much honesty and heart. So many feelings and emotions. Young love can be equal part a beautiful thing and painful, especially what transpires between Miller and Vi. Their friendship may have begun at 13 but that's also when their love for one another blossomed too. Overall Opinion: This was a pleasant surprise! I had put off this one because I hate not being part of the bandwagon! I hate not loving books that soooo many people hype up and having raving reviews about! It makes me feel like a grumpy old lady that’s becoming too picky in my books. So, long story short — I’m happy that I liked this! Ms. Emma Scott strikes again! She’s great at tapping into the feels and she did that here. Just maybe not as much as I was expecting, but that’s okay! I still liked and connected to these characters and I got a relationship that spans many years and develops with age into that ‘more’. I love that kind of story! If anyone has recommendations for books similar, I am all ears!
Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Violet and Miller’s story. They meet right after Miller moves to town with his mother after his father left them in a bad place and they are 13. They form an instant friendship that lasts through the years and develops into something more. Overall Opinion: This was a pleasant surprise! I had put off this one because I hate not being part of the bandwagon! I hate not loving books that soooo many people hype up and having raving reviews about! It makes me feel like a grumpy old lady that’s becoming too picky in my books. So, long story short — I’m happy that I liked this! Ms. Emma Scott strikes again! She’s great at tapping into the feels and she did that here. Just maybe not as much as I was expecting, but that’s okay! I still liked and connected to these characters and I got a relationship that spans many years and develops with age into that ‘more’. I love that kind of story! If anyone has recommendations for books similar, I am all ears!

It's An absolute delight to get to read an ES book. They're flawlessly written, perfectly nuanced and soulful in narration. Emma explores the excruciating side of love expertly in all her books and they ALWAYS move me to tears. I know to keep a kleenex box handy when starting an Emma Scott book.
But this....THIS compelling tale of deep fated love between a boy who writes love songs and a girl with a romantic heart, is syrupy sweet enough to give Dia-be-titties while gouging your heart with a blunt spoon so it bleeds all over the pages. I was prepared but I wasn't prepared enough. My tears and smiles just mingled together. Miller's devotional ballads made me super jealous of Violet and super emotional too
"Change is hard in the beginning, messy in the middle, and beautiful at the end"
And so are your stories Emma!! #JustSaying🤷♀️
It's a coming-of-age, Emotional powerhouse, beautiful in its brokenness and desperation. It tugged at all of my heartstrings and made me believe in the miracle of love.

This book is special to Emma, her loss and pain is hidden in the words. I felt it and embraced it.
She easily establishes the connections between the characters and readers till I could feel all they were going through like it was my story
Miller and Violet go through love pangs and a mental tussle, questioning their self worth and testing their bonds every day and it killed me to see them hurting individually and in agony apart.
"A person often meets her destiny on the road she takes to avoid it.”
Even though some situations seemed hopeless and overcast with ominous clouds, the story is full of hope and strength. Violet rises to the all challenges that seem to knock the legs out from under her. I loved her generosity, her capacity to love and loyally support Miller and bolster his courage time and time again. It's as perfect as love can be and as perfect a couple can be.
This. Book. Is. A. MUST READ and NOT TO BE MISSED. I cannot wait to read the next book because the endearing couple coming up next is very intriguing..

'The Girl in the Love Song,' is a coming of age romance with characters who I totally fell in love with, and a story arc that is both thought provoking and beautiful. A friends-to-lovers style narrative that develops seamlessly with the perfect level of angst and anticipation between the main protagonists. A hero and heroine who showcase believable thought processes that also perfectly support the motivation of the drama and emotion of the story as they grow from young people into self-assured adults. The angst level that was turned up to just the right volume at the right time, it squeezed the centre of my chest right where my heart is and made me a happy reader. Innocence and self-discovery are weaved into the canvas of words along with important relevant issues that compel the reader to think and feel on a deeper level. The author clearly pours her heart, soul, and life experience into her writing which often makes her words more poignant and life affirming. In addition, the supporting cast of characters are strong and caught my attention in a positive way which is a testament to the growth and development of the story as a whole; each of the characters play their own integral part to the overall feel of the romance novel.
Be ready to swoon and love and FEEL. I was totally invested in Violet and Millers story; I adored them and felt their growth as individuals and as a couple. I cannot wait to hear more from the other, 'Lost Boys,' and discover how they grow and develop meaningful relationships with other characters from the world of Emma Scott.

Violet first met Miller, the boy with holes in his pants, the one who lived in a station wagon and also has juvenile diabetes when they were 13. Since then they both have been best friends. Fast forward through out the years Miller always knew he was in love with Violet since the first time they met, he wrote songs for her and played them to her. But Violet at the time didn’t want to acknowledge her feelings for Miller because she didn’t believe in love. She didn’t want to ruin the friendship she had with Miller over Love as she has witnessed first hand about failed marriages because of her parents.
When I started this book, I’m going to be honest, I was bored. I was basically just skimming through the pages trying to finish it or waiting for things to become interesting as I didn’t want to DNF another book.
Miller and Violet both loved each other but their issue was that they weren’t really doing anything about it. Miller was chickening out from confessing his feelings to Violet and Violet was too busy ignoring all of Millers songs that were clearly written for her. It took Miller trying to date someone else for Violet to admit that she actually has feelings for her best friend. But again no one did anything about it. They just watched each other with other people and finally when the hormones couldn’t be kept at bay they kissed each other.
“I’m sorry, Vi. For a lot of things. I’m sorry I went silent on you. Disappeared. I’m sorry I ran to another girl when I should have told you the truth, that we always felt like more than friends. From the very first day. But I said nothing.”
After they officially got to together the book started to get a tad bit interesting. Miller signed a contract with a record label, recorded his first album and started touring with Ed Sheeran, while Violet was in Texas perusing her medical degree. The second half of the book was how they tried to make long relationship work. I liked how there was no OW or cheating scandal drama at this point of time (Dont even get be started on the high school drama). Miller stayed loyal towards the end.
”I want to marry you, Vi. I want to grow old with you. I want to celebrate wedding anniversaries with you that make people stand up and applaud when they hear the number. I want to tell people that you’re the love of my life and that I knew that was true because I met you when I was thirteen years old. And that was it. There was never going to be anyone else.”
I’m like confused with the rating, I didn’t LOVE the book but didn’t hate it either. It’s like in the middle for me. So I’ll keep it safe and give it 3 stars. This is a light summer read, I’m sure if you like reading contemporary romance/less angst books then I’m sure you will love this one.

This was of course beautiful like everything Emma Scott writes. I swear Emma writes the swooniest heroes, and this one was no different, Miller Stratton was just precious. I have to admit it took me a while to get into this one. I think I was expecting the characters to be older, and most of the story develops when they are really young and in high school, and so to me the pacing was just a little slow, where the characters going back and forth for a big chunk of the book. Nevertheless, both Violet and Miller were great characters and this friends to lovers story is definitely solid, beautiful and heartwarming. And since this is an Emma Scott story, there's also all sorts of heartbreak and unexpected events. I was also totally invested in the side story going on with Holden and River! You just can't go wrong with an Emma Scott book, her books are simply awesome!

In this one, such issues include homelessness and juvenile diabetes.
Miller and Violet met by chance one night and have essentially been inseparable since. The two may be complete opposites in every way, but there’s an undeniable connection between the two that leads them to a forever type friendship. Weaving through the months and years we see these two grow together. We see the trouble that both Miller and Violet face in their home-lives, and we bond with them through connections forged because of their issues. We see friendship turn to more, we see mistakes, regrets, and assumptions. But most of all, we see an epic love story between two people who are destined for one another. I loved Miller and Violet. I loved how they LOVED each other, and I loved being a part of their journey as they navigated high school, college, and fame. This is a beautiful love story, one that completely held my heart from the moment I started reading and wouldn’t let go.
If you’ve read an Emma Scott novel, you know how precious they are. The book centers around Violet McNamara (starts at 13, then 17, turns 18) and Miller Stratton (starts at 13, then 17, turns 18). They met when they were kids and instantly bonded. Their friendship became strong, yet both wanted to be more than just friends, but held back. Well, Violet held back as she didn't believe in love and refuses to lose Miller's friendship, and Miller wants to give Violet everything so he stays as her friend.
The whole book could've been a whole lot shorter had they just talked. There was no drama, no frustration, no angst between the two... the book was actually boring. When it came to 50% into the book, all I could think of what that everything has already kinda happened, so what now? I had expected more, to be honest.
Overall, I was bored. It had its cute moments but that was it. The only reason I decided to read this one was because book two has an M/M couple, yet meeting the characters in here didn't make me want to read their story. All the male characters, including Miller was "submissive". I want alpha males, none of the were that and that made me loose interest for the M/M future couple. I also didn't care for the side characters, the friends of Miller and Violet.

as I don't have much patience for teenage angst and drama, the whole inner turmoil and stupid decisions BUT I devoured this book and can't wait to read the rest of the series...
adding the fact that this is a friend to lovers- blah- and you guys, I loved it...
*now I have to address the fact that our hero is diabetic and I applaud the care author had with the delivery of the life living with it!
*another great novel with emphasis on adoption and organ donation!!

I love epic romances that span years over the course of its character’s lives. The Girl in the Love Song begins when Miller and Violet are just thirteen years old, and we follow them into adulthood. It’s truly epic, and it has an epic couple in Miller Stratton and Violet McNamara. With Violet’s unwavering love and determination, Miller is able to cope with and even overcome seemingly impossible odds. Violet saves him, sometimes literally, and that makes for some heart pounding moments.
If you’re familiar with Emma Scott’s work, you know to expect heavy subject matter and a need for tissues, but be prepared to LOL too. Miller is just one third of the Lost Boys, and the other two—especially my new obsession, Holden—add some much-needed humor. Holden’s book is coming up next and I can’t wait. I’ve already claimed him, so don’t even try! 😂
As an added bonus, two of the songs Miller (AKA Emma Scott) wrote for Violet are linked in the e-book, and you can listen to them for free on Spotify. They’re absolutely beautiful, and the musicians who performed them channel Miller perfectly.
