In 2019, we predicted that Trump's trade barriers and immigration controls on Huawei and China could lead to the balkanization of tech. At Huawei's developer conference on Thursday, the tech giant said it will, in fact, replace Google's Android OS with its own operating system it will install on new smartphones in 2021. That's after Google suspended business activity in Huawei last year.

China, North Korea, Pakistan and Iran on one side of the fence, the rest of the world on the other. Would you really call it Balkanisation.

MIT Technology Review Thank you for balkanizing further the Balkans and making it a thing by creating a phrase balkanized, which compares something to a situation in Balkans, which was created by someone's balkanizing intentions... We, people from Balkans are very happy and thankful for being stigmated by balkanization.

A crackdown on China will not make America any better.

The world through commerce and science tries to get smaller, and yet reactionaries like Trump fuel unnecessary feuds that Balkanize the otherwise increasingly global community. It is the never-ending struggle between visionaries for a global peace and the greedy “I, me, mine” philosophy whether opined at the country or tribal or individual greed level.

I personally believed that Samsung would possibly launch its own OS, but with the shifting politics, the Huawei decision is a monumental and ominous move driven by necessity as well as China politics.
