Get ready to know Halsey on a whole new level.

The singer-songwriter is gearing up to release her first poetry collection, titled I Would Leave Me If I Could, later this year — and she recently opened up to fans on Twitter about what they might expect from the book.

Halsey revealed that while “a good chunk” of the poems reflect her life before mega-stardom (and from an “Ashley POV”), there’s a wide range of serious and important topics she explores in her writing. “There’s a lot of present day insights too that I don’t often get to express,” she tweeted earlier this week. “My feelings on family, loneliness, power, gender and sexuality, and longing. Sooooo much longing.” So, basically, if Halsey’s music sends you directly to your feelings, you’re in for an emotional journey.

The singer-songwriter also explained that writing these poems helped her take a step back from her public persona. “It definitely helped me detach from public opinion,” Halsey said. “To put my desire to make true art ahead of my fear of invasive judgment. It’s very personal. And I know that it will probably turn into a press nightmare. But hopefully it will help some people and that’s what matters.”

Halsey also revealed that out of the nearly 135 (!!!) poems included, some early versions of her poetry ended up as songs. But don’t think she was done there; she added that she’s written a bunch more poems since finalizing her first collection — and that fans might even be able to expect a second installment. “I hope so!” Halsey quipped when asked if there would be a Volume 2. “If people like the first one hahaha.”

Halsey first announced her poetry collection on June 25, writing in an Instagram post at the time: “I wrote a few thousand sentences but am somehow struggling to string together a single one to summarize how excited I am about this.” According to Vulture, the poems will detail a variety of subjects including Halsey’s “doomed relationships, family ties, sexuality, and mental illness.”

Stephanie Frerich, executive editor at Simon & Schuster, emphasized in a press release that “poetry infuses everything Halsey does,” adding: “We were immediately captivated by her poems the way millions are by her music.”

I Would Leave Me If I Could will be available for purchase on November 10. Pre-order your copy here.
