Delhi Election Results Updates: AAP wins big with 62 seats, BJP secures 8

The final tally as per the Election Commission declares a landslide victory of the AAP which won 62 out of 70 Delhi Assembly constituencies, while the BJP managed to win eight seats.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal for the Delhi election results. In a tweet, PM Modi said: "Congratulations to AAP and Shri Arvind Kejriwal Ji for the victory in the Delhi Assembly Elections. Wishing them the very best in fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Delhi."

Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal will shortly visit the Hanuman temple in Delhi's CP. The police have cordoned off the entire area in view of security arrangements.

Manoj Tiwari said the silver linning in these elections is that the BJP has been able to increase its vote share from around 32 per cent in 2015 to close to 40 per cent this time. "This was possible only due to the hard work of our party workers. We are seeing a new trend in the politics of Delhi i.e. the rise of bipolar politics. The Congress is non-existent. It is natural to get disappointed when you don't get desired results despite working so hard work."

Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari said, "I thank the people of Delhi. I thank BJP workers for their hard work in this election. I congratulate Arvind Kejriwal and accept the mandate given by the people of Delhi. I hope he will meet people's expectations. We cpuld not meet our expectations and will analyse where we went wrong."

At 4.30pm. the AAP has won 13 seats and the BJP just one, as per the Election Commission's latest data. Overall, the AAP is leading in 63 seats and the BJP in seven.

Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra Minister Aaditya Thackeray said, "Leaving aside electoral issues, one must work and fulfill promises. We must steer clear of the level of politics which was there in Delhi election. I congratulate Delhi for giving a decisive mandate fearlessly. I congratulate Arvind Kejriwal."

Delhi BJP chief and MP Manoj Tiwari has tweeted his congratulations for Arvind Kejriwal. Thanking the voters of Delhi, Tiwari said, "We respect the mandate of the people."

A few more results have come in. The Aam Aadmi Party has won from the Ambedkar Nagar and Rajinder Nagar assembly seats. Meanwhile, the BJP's OM Prakash Sharma has won from the Vishwas Nagar constituency. Overall, the AAP has now won six seats while the BJP has won one. The AAP is also leading on 57 other seats while the BJP is leading on six other seats.

The Bharatiya Janata Party, which currently is leading on only seven seats in the Delhi election result, has conceded defeat. BJP chief Jagat Prakash Nadda said in a tweet, "The BJP respects the mandate given by the people of Delhi." Nadda said the BJP would play the role of a responsible opposition and congratulated Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party for the victory.

Addressing supporters outside the Aam Aadmi Party office in Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal hailed the "clear message" sent by Delhi's voters. Kejriwal called his victory a dawn of new era in politics and the entire country's win.

Maharashtra CM and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray has congratulated Arvind Kejriwal for the Aam Aadmi Party's performance in the Delhi election results. "AAP win in Delhi has shown the nation 'jan ki baat'. The people of Delhi have bursted the thought process of those who felt they were deshbhakts and those opposing them were anti nationals," Thackeray said in a statemnet. "Now it's not Mann ki Baat but Jan ki Baat that will rule the nations and people of Delhi have shown this. The so called nationalist government put in all the might yet couldn't stand in front of the broom."

AAP candidate Mukesh Kumar Ahlawat has won from Sultanpur Majra (SC) seat by over 48,000 votes. He defeated BJP's Ram Chander Chawriya.

Aam Aadmi Party candidate Raaj Kumar Anand has won from Patel Nagar (SC) seat by over 30,000 votes. He defeated BJP's Pravesh Ratn.
