Darjeeling, the queen of hills, is all geared up to welcome tourists from July 1. After remaining in lockdown for three months in the wake of Coronavirus outbreak, this tourist hotspot is all ready to open for business.

As per the latest news reports, Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA), which is the autonomous administrative body for the hills of Darjeeling, recently formed a committee of various bodies, including political parties, hotel owners, police and district administration. And as per their last meeting, the committee has decided to reopen hotels for tourism purpose, in a move to revive the economy. As pe the order, hotel owners have been advised to follow the standard operating protocols strictly as per the guidelines of the central government.

Darjeeling, famous for its tea estates and popular for being a tourist hotspot, suffered a massive blow due to the lockdown, thereby leaving many out of business. So now, the GTA has formed a committee that has decided to re-open hotels to revive the economy through tourism.

Referring to this, GTA Chief Binay Tamag said, "We welcome the decision. Tourism is the backbone of the hills. We are all concerned about the virus but the livelihood has to be saved too. The hotel owners have decided to open their doors again and people across the country are most welcome. It's not a risk but prudent call we are taking".
However, the tourists, before entering into the hills, will have to produce their fitness certificate. Reportedly, every tourist will have to undergo screening test at two separate points before finally reaching the town of Darjeeling. Also, all the hotels have been asked to be ready with the screening machinery at their entrance gate.
