1597 - Acrylic Painting: Basic Techniques

Course Description

Acrylic colors are rich and true to nature, allowing for amazingly accurate representation. It has long been a popular medium for illustrators, fine artists, decorative artists, and muralists. In this course, students explore this versatile water-based, fast-drying, and nontoxic medium. The course will start with an emphasis on introductory painting skills, tools and techniques, and build from the foundation laid in drawing classes. Demonstrations will cover basic color theory, mixing color, light and shadow, glazing, priming, composition and content. Work will be done from both direct observation and photo reference, touching on landscape, portraiture, and still life paintings. Topics covered in this class will give students the skills to explore other paint mediums as well as the confidence to examine more poetic visual languages such as abstraction.
