SWAT Generation 2.0 #10

Officially Over It

Rate this book
Going from a professional baseball player to a SWAT officer should’ve been seamless. Should have been.

But it wasn’t.

All it took was one single calendar shoot for word to spread that Nathan Cox was not only no longer playing professional baseball, but he was also the man behind saving the life of Reggie Morton, the City of Kilgore’s princess.
***
Reggie didn’t know that by agreeing to provide the expertise and the know-how for the Police Officer’s Ball that she would be required to actually attend the function.

What she also didn’t expect was needing to be saved—again—by the same man that had saved her life a year ago when she hosted her debut event.

This time in a not-nearly-as-spectacular way. The moment she falls into his arms like a modern-day Cinderella and takes him in in all his three-piece suited glory, she realizes that she’s been fighting the impossible.

Nathan Cox owns her. Body and soul.

TUUUUUUGGGGGGGG!!
Officially Over It pulled, jerked, and yanked at my heart strings... and I loved every minute of it!

Reggie and Nathan have known each other their whole lives. They played together, vacationed together, competed against each other, and were virtually raised together. They knew how to press each other's buttons, how to push, how to irritate, and yet they always had each other's backs. Why? Because no matter what they put the other through, they loved each other. Deeply. Too bad neither of them knew it.

Retired professional baseball player turned cop, Nathan's life has always been exciting. The only thing missing has been Reggie. While she was there, she wasn't there and he wanted her in a bad way. When his toxic ex-girlfriend comes back around to stir up trouble, Reggie's just the one he needs to keep him balanced. Their shared secret is just the right touch to tip the scales in his favor and maybe while she's there, helping him, giving him a much-needed shoulder, he can convince her to also give him her heart.

I laughed, chuckled, gasped and even cried. Each scene evoked such emotion from me, I couldn't help but give this story all the stars. I got to see so many of my favorite characters and was able to add two more to the bunch. Now I'm super excited for Malachi's story because if anyone deserves some happiness, it's that guy.

Hot damn! OFFICIALLY OVER IT is the perfect fusion between marriage of convenience and enemies to lovers. These two, Nathan and Reggie drove me insane with their back and forth, but mended my grumpy heart with the sweetest most tender moments! An enticing and engaging read that I devoured in one sitting!

Full review to follow….

“You want a real marriage,” I found myself saying.
“You want this.” I pointed at my heart.
She already had it, but she didn’t know it.

There’s a fine line between love and hate, and y’all crossed into the love category a long time ago.

I love Ms. Vale’s imagination because she comes up with characters that are so unique and interesting. While some of their antics can be OTT, you can’t help but be entertained and are left wondering what she comes up with next. Nathan and Reggie are no exception.

While a little early communication could’ve sorted these two stubborn characters out pretty quickly, the drama that not sorting it brought about had me devouring this read as soon as I got it. These two “enemies” had the sparks flying high. They were good together and made plenty of mistakes to show growth.

The writing style was true to LLV with phenomenal pacing and distinct voice. I am dying to read Malachi’s story... and pretty much whatever else LLV comes up with. She’s a solid go to for me.

So I am loving this series so much, I don't bother to read the blurb for each book. Because it really doesn't matter. Every time I finish each book I read the first chapter of the next one and then spend the next month dying to read that book.

Reggie and Nathan were such a great couple. I loved their relationship. They had so much history, yet they still felt new and exciting. And their chemistry was scorching. I really couldn't believe everything that they went through to get to their happily ever after.

I couldn't put it down once I started reading and I was dying to see how everything was going to be resolved. There was so much emotion and despite a few tense moments I couldn't wipe the smile off my face.

But I'm not going to lie I've been dying to get Malachi's story for a while now and seeing it's up next, I can't wait for next month.

Lani just never ceases to amaze me when it comes to her books. I swear just when I think I can't be surprised anymore she surprises me more.

I was completely unprepared for the journey Nathan and Reggie went on throughout their story. I try not to think to hard on what kind of plot a story will have before reading it because I like the unknown but this one I really didn't expect.

Nathan and Reggie have always had this up and down fight till something is broken kind of friendship. What did we expect with her mom and his dad being best friends?. Even with the constant clashing and competitive nature of these pair it was clear to see the chemistry under all that fight. It was almost as if no matter what happened they always gravitated towards eachother in times of need. Boy did that save them both in the long run.

Nathan isn't who I thought he would be. Yes he's got that super dominant macho badass side but there is also so much more to him. A private man who didn't want the limelight. A man who fought his feelings for so long it became the norm to be cold to the one person he wanted more than life. He's smart and he has this dry humour I loved hard. Ohh and the abs.. the abs even when he sat down are a bonus.

Reggie, she's the kind of heroine I love. Her snarky sharp humour and sweet loyalty had me loving her straight away. She was always there for Nathan, even when it hurt to be. Her, she never wavered and that right there is a special kind of human. She's a whole lot of antisocial and witty but under that is a soft soul who loves whole heartedly.

Them together just gave me all the feels. I love the constant bickering and banter.. even in inappropriate situations they somehow find a way to tease and bicker but that only served to showcase that solid connection between them. I love the whole hate to love you kind of frenemies vibe they had. I adored that even though they both were in denial they still were there for eachother when it was needed. The chemistry it was everything and the build up was so freaking perfect for them, even if it was one of convenience at first.

They're journey wasn't easy, I feel like they had everything thrown at them and then some but it only served to make them stronger.. a more formidable couple. The chemistry, the connection.. everything about them just felt so damn right I was rooting for them the whole way. It's a freaking crazy rollercoaster of climactic suspense, jaw dropping surprises and heartbreaking revelations. It's all kinds of hilarious and witty and there is so much steam I can't even with it. The side characters of it all.. god I love me strong characters and getting to see old and new faces and Lani gives us that by the boat load.

This book did not disappoint in anyway but then again Lani never does. It's seamless, chock full of all kinds of emotion and filled to the brim with multidimensional characters that have so much depth. It's the gift that just keeps giving.

Oh and the teasing of Lynn... man, seriously I'm so fucking desperate for his story it's not even funny.

Officially Over It is the story of Nathan, SWAT team member and former baseball star, and Reggie, his childhood rival/wife. Yep, his wife. Marriage of Convenience trope goodness!

Nathan was a tougher character for me to warm to. He had a horrid ex, and for some inexplicable reason, he was kind to her far longer than he should have been. Meanwhile, he is harsh and dismissive with Reggie (to cover up his feelings...ugh, just tell her). Reggie is a great heroine though-she is smart and sassy. Her job as a NICU nurse is fascinating and I loved seeing a strong woman succeed in her career.

Nathan and Reggie have denied their feelings and even kept their marriage a secret. But, they are both faced with an even bigger secret that puts them to a huge relationship test. Reggie is the type of girl who is there for Nathan simply because he is her friend. She puts aside her feelings to support him when she thinks he still views the marriage as a scam. It really shows her selflessness.

If you like the rivals in love, marriage of convenience tropes, Officially Over It is a great pick! Also, I think this book, more than any others in the series, really stands alone well, so you could read Officially Over It and not feel like you missed something!

  POV: dual 1st
  Tears: no
  Trope: marriage of convenience, secret baby
  Triggers: none
  Series/Standalone: stand alone

Reggie has been avoiding Nathan for a year now. But the time has come for her to woman up because she's about to come face to face with her...um well I won't spoil. Let's just say these two have a history. Some good, some not so good. But either way, she has to see him and it's the last thing she wants because she can't be near the man she's been in love with forever, the man who so definitely does not reciprocate those feelings. Or doesn't he?

Nathan's been avoiding facing how feels for Reggie. But when he finally comes face to face with her again, yeah he knows. And it's time for him to get his woman. And he will, but only after the two of them face a huge obstacle in the form of his not so pleasant past. Then there will be a reckoning and Reggie will know just how he feels. Yep!

These two...boneheads...yeah, they weren't so great on communication for the longest time. Back and forth, running away, but once they got on the same page I loved them together. This series is one of my favorites, and it's because of stories and couples like Reggie and Nathan who have amazing chemistry, with bonds that may get tested, but stand through those tests, and who all have each other's backs, SWAT style.

Nathan and Reggie’s book did have some flaws, but I hadn’t cared a bit about them. I loved those two together, they had great chemistry and their banter was so funny to me.
And before I noticed, the end of the story came and I was so sad I couldn’t read more about them.

Arrghh. I really truly do have a strange relationship with LLV's books. Some of the words hit me just right... others completely miss me.

I love the premise of the calendar and all the men included in it... I have really loved a lot of the stories told. I DNF'd one and didn't read another cos I didn't like the initial set-up.

This one? It wasn't what I thought it was going to be... not at all. I really thought that there would be more of a back story with the treasured MacDonald's toy... but there wasn't, not really. I thought there would've been a lot more to Nathan and Reggie's disregard of each other... there didn't seem to be a viable reason why they appeared to treat each other with such disdain. Eerie ( cool, if not a little weird, name ) came out of left field. Was pretty happy about that resolution tho.

I was also a little wary of this story cos I don't particularly like Travis and felt ( strongly ) that Hannah was really let down in her story. I didn't read Wolf's cos I got really cross that the set up had been that he and Hannah were meant to be each other's HEA - at least to me... and then it got weird. Annnyway... that is a whole different kettle of fish!!

So, all things considered. I liked this. I liked Reggie. I liked Nathan. I liked Dare. Am looking forward to the last two in the series and then onto the new one!!! Oooh... and there was very little trademark time-jumps and no extraneous plotting at all!!!

And what about Lynn? Huh?? When are we going to get his story... I feel like I have been waiting forever!!

21/02/21 Feel pretty much the same about this as I did on the first read. Still don't get the whole Reggie/Nathan problems with each other. I get the childhood shenanigans... but for the what felt like out and out dislike for each - particularly from Nathan... to have continued into adulthood... weird. Her moving away so she wouldn't have to see him. Maybe it was to try to protect her heart... but it read like Nathan had done something to hurt her. To me... anyway. Also... we have had Lynn's story... am now eager for Bruno's!!!

26/03/22 Huh... thought I had read this this year... turns out I hadn't?! Ah well. All of the above still rings true for me even tho I have read Wolf's story. I still felt bristle-y when both Wolf and Travis appeared... Travis more so. And I do wonder what happened to Eerie in the end?

This one was a bit crazy! I liked Nathan and Reggie, even liked their contentious relationship at the start, mostly because we knew it was sort of false, they acted that way to hide their attraction. The stuff with Nathan's ex from high school was so crazy, like Lifetime movie of the week crazy. I'm glad that Reggie overheard things to help her act and from there that she and Nathan fought like hell for something neither realized they wanted. I loved how at every turn Nathan and Reggie had facts that beat the BS they kept encountering and how they were making their relationship real. I was a bit scared towards the end, could have done without Nathan getting hurt like that, but it ended well.

We enjoyed this story as it was fun and flirty and messy and filled with a ton of emotion and had really great characters.

I enjoyed the plot because it was different and complicated and had a woman crazy lady that you couldn't quite figure out and a couple who went from friends to lovers, and they too had a mystery that surrounded them.

I really like Nathan he was an all-around nice guy with his sexy looks and great personality, and we found him to be a whole lot of fun as well as genuine.

Reggie aka Regina was funny, sassy, had a big old heart, and a woman not afraid to let you know what she wants, and yet we liked we she blushed or became somewhat shy when it came to sex or even talking about it. Super sweet and she made us smile.

Overall this was a messy story as well as being a complicated one but, it was also heartfelt because if the circumstance didn't present itself a couple who both had been in love with each other for years wouldn't have finally put all their cards on the table so to speak and go after their happily ever after. We loved it and its characters who were so easy to love. From beginning to end we were engrossed in the pages.
The story was one of those light and fun romance reads that you can read in one sitting. We really enjoyed it. One of the things that we loved about this story the most and this entire series is that the men can have that alpha trait in them and be protective and kind and loving but, they are also men like Nathan who aren't afraid to show their emotions because Nathan's in this story was all over the place, and he wasn't afraid to express how he felt and that he was scared and didn't know how to process everything that became his reality overnight and just how complicated love really can be. Who wouldn't fall in love with a guy like that? Swoon-worthy...

Reggie and Nathan have been rivals since they were kids. If she could hit a homerun at softball he had to hit two in baseball. That this love-hate relationship swings to the love part when Nathan is put in a bind and he sees no way out except through loving Reggie. They have had really strong feelings for each other since they were teenagers but neither of those bullheaded/stubborn people with give in. They danced around each other for years and family when they don’t have a choice love blossoms. But will they be the first to admit it to each other that they love each other? Hell no! They still won’t admit it🙄. Will they admit it before it is too late? I am loving these second generation SWAT kids!!

Gemma’s Review

Officially Over it was a really unique story that had such a fun storyline. I honestly haven't read a storyline this before and was full of twists and turns. This story really took me on a rollercoaster of emotions and had two characters that I really loved together.

Reggie was the strong heroine of the story that I really loved. I really love how she was always there for Nathan even though they always fought against each other.

Nathan was different then I really thought he would be like. HIt was obvious how much he cared for Reggie and how much he wanted to be with her.

This was an enjoyable story with two characters that I found really belonged together. They had really strong chemistry with each other and this caused some hot steamy moments. 4 Stars #2OCCGE

Jessica’s Review

This book was everything I hoped for an more for these two characters. Mainly Nathan. That man has been though so much in his life and I’m so glad he got a woman as strong as Reggie. They both kept their feelings secret but both felt them and strong. I loved the banter they had and loved that connection that was there. This book has so crazy drama. I loved it. Right from the start I was drawn I and didn’t put it down til I was done. I needed to see a HEA for these two and I’m so glad that they got it. 5 stars #2OCCJD

Harrumph....Look y'all, this book title is pretty much how I feel about this series.
And I know what you're thinking: well then just stop reading it.
But I am 10 BOOKS IN I CANNOT QUIT.

I feel like I give the same review for these books every time. Bottom line: it is, IMO, not possible to crank out a quality book every month.

1. Why would it be seamless to transition from baseball player to SWAT member? That is illogical. ALSO, I know it's probably not the author who writes these dumb intros, so to whoever did that: the book literally has nothing to do with him being a baseball player.

2. What is an inner brain? That also doesn't make sense. These are the kind of errors that happen when production ramps up.

3. Reading these books feels like watching Grey's Anatomy. Some people love it. I was over it like ten iterations ago.

4. The extreme villainy of the 'bad guys' is what makes these books absurd. Nobody

***May Contain Some Spoilers***

I'll start this review with I've been a fan of Mrs. Vale's for a very long time. Spanning over six year's when I first started reading her books. She is one of the author's that are my go-to pre-order author's. So whether or not I get to read her books ahead of time or not there going to be landing on my kindle on release day.

Let's start with Nathan, if you don't know who Nathan is we were introduced to him way back in the Uncertain Saints series, and in Wolf and Raven's book Rusty nail. Nathan was the baby that survived a gun shoot to the head when his parents and unborn sibling were murdered by a serial killer. Than Wolf took Nathan on as his own. We also got to see Nathan in the Their's No Crying in Baseball series. And of course we've seen him throughout this series as a SWAT officer now. Gosh it's so hard to forget who Nathan is and not feel for everything he's been through.

Eh Reggie, she's the niece of Michael (the original Saint). She's also a nurse who works in the NICU. Eh I mean there was nothing really stand out or exciting about her, so I'm not really sure what to say about her.

So although I did find this book entertaining and finished it within a few hours of landing on my kindle. I have to say that like the title say's I'm kinda Officially Over these books. As much as I love Mrs. Vales books I may have to take a break from them once again because honestly There... All.... Once.... Again... Sounding... The.... Same and there just plain out predictable at this point.

Anyways I'm giving this book 3 Stars out of 5!!!

Well what a strange October installment that was! Not what I was expecting certainly,but typical LLV madness and mayhem. Two people who have been together through childhood due to their families being close friends. They apparently have loved each other for years but disguised it extremely well. Somehow managed to get fake/real married and conceal it from everyone...that entire part of the storyline confused me.

Then the madness, a baby born to the wicked girlfriend of the hero from when he was seventeen. The baby belonging to the heroes DNA without consent...this was one crazy ride for sure. I didn’t get any romance though. Just two people that finally accept and reveal their unrequited feelings for each other. So not one of my favorites of LLV but I ploughed through it anyway!🙃

There's something comforting about reading a Lani Lynn Vale book, something about the emotions that pull at your heartstrings, and the all-around feeling of family that these books engender in me. This latest release is another immensely satisfying read, one that has lifelong frenemies becoming something more, in a journey that sometimes frustrated me while putting a smile on my face through their witty banter and scorching interactions. Add in glimpses of characters we've seen before, and come to love like family, and I found myself wrapped up in a warm glow of satisfaction that has me longing for the next book from this reliably entertaining author!

Nathan and Reggie grew up with a combustible connection that had them constantly trying to outdo the other, but they were also there for each other whenever they needed support most. Theirs was a connection full of push and pulls, a connection that sometimes turned sensual when they were willing to admit it to themselves, and it's these moments of unspoken truths that led to their time apart. They're back in each other's lives now though, living in the same town, with the sizzle between them just as potent as ever. There's also a secret that binds them together which comes to the forefront as each new twist and turn is revealed. This time around however they're not going to keep their feelings hidden in a journey to HEA that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Nathan's a delicious hero, not who he at first seems to be. He's someone who doesn't like the limelight and is quite content working in a small town. He's all male, strong yet silent, but with a softer side that I felt privileged to see. Reggie's a great match for him...sweet, sassy, with a strong sense of loyalty. She's the kind of heroine you can see yourself being friends with and together they made for a formidable and crackling couple.

On a whole this was another winner from Ms. Vale, a story that packed one heckuva wallop courtesy of numerous twists and turns. The main couple were thoroughly entertaining with an unforgettable connection that encompassed years and I loved their exhilarating interactions. A lot was thrown at this couple throughout the story and it ultimately made them stronger as I was rooting for them every step of the way. Surrounding this likable main couple was an equally entertaining cast of secondary characters, the denizens of the town whose stories I've already enjoyed as well as characters whose stories are still to come. Of those characters, Malachi has me most intrigued and I'm now left counting down the days until his book arrives on shelves!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PHEW finally a book in this series that I liked !!
After a whole series of books in this series that I had found really blah, I was on the verge of giving up when I tried this one and FINALLY I had the impression of finding the quality of the others books by Lani Lynn Vale here !!
What I particularly liked :
- the romance between the two characters who were childhood friends bickering all the time, in denial of their feelings, to finally get married for fakes and finally get together for real !! I loved the way they end up admitting that they love each other, very gently and sweetly <3
- the crazy drama with Nathan's ex (but this woman seriously !!! And the baby's name !!) but also with the dealer (I didn't expect the incident in the river !! )
In short, a fun and sexy romance that I enjoyed reading unlike the previous books =)
Ok, so I know I have said this before, but read the previous stories. Everything will make more sense if you do. Even after so many books under her belt, LLV has a way of making each book feel fresh and new. Nothing seems like a repeat or like its getting stale, each book is an exciting adventure, new and always gives us those feels. Watching Nathan, someone whose story broke my heart when introduced in Coup De Grace, get his HEA was such an amazing ride! Likewise with Reggie, we have watched these characters in a few stories and I am so thrilled they got their story after all. Drama, some danger, some really spicy moments, and the overall great feeling and not wanting to leave this world when it was over. I give this 5 stars and am so excited for what comes next!
We are 70+ books into this world now and yet LLV is still thinking up new stories that don't feel repeated or samey. I love that each book makes you feel part of the world you are reading, and now with these next gen books we get a whole new batch of characters we've seen grow up get their own HEA's. Yet again I was sucked into this story and Reggie finally getting her Nathan was fantastic. I can't wait for the next one and give Officially Over It 5 stars.
5 They Have Secrets Stars!!!
We go on quite the ride with Nathan and Reggie in this book and I loved every twist and turn LLV put us through. These two have always loved each other but they wouldn’t admit it and they were at different places in their lives such as Nathan being a professional baseball player and Reggie staying in their hometown. But that all changes one day and their lives are thrust together in every way possible… but it becomes so much more!!
I loved these two so much!!! They’re fighting a battle that has them revealing a secret they thought they wouldn’t ever share but it’s for an important cause because Nathan’s ex is just a meanie and angry and spiteful and every word that you can think of that’s in that same genre!! Nathan however is determined to not only get what’s rightfully his, but it’s his moment to get the girl he’s loved since they were kids!
This book is filled with passion, strength, sassiness, right vs. wrong, friendships that are tested and love that is grand and overwhelming in so many ways but is so much needed by both our H/h.
I’m being very vague in this review because this is one you need to read for yourself so you can go on this exhilarating ride with Nathan and Reggie!!
4 stars!
Lani Lynn Vale's KPD SWAT Generation 2.0 Series is a top favorite series right now. I don’t even bother reading the synopsis before reading anymore. Her books are filled with humor, heat and emotion. Everything I love in my romance reads. Reggie and Nathan’s story is book #10 but can be read as standalone. Nathan and Reggie have been rivals since they were young. On the same softball team growing up and they always had to one up each other. From a young age they were both fiercely competitive with each other. A total love/hate relationship for most of their lives. Now that Nathan has moved from baseball star to SWAT he finds himself in a jam and needs to call upon Reggie for a bit of help. It is very apparent that these two have scorching hot chemistry. There is this fine line between love and hate and they play on that line and it made the story so addicted and unable to put down. Both characters are bullheaded, strong and stubborn. They have loved each other since they were teenagers but of course neither would admit to the other and now they have the chance and they still won't. I need some push and pull in my romance reads but this couple took it to a whole other level. Other than that I adored this one and highly recommend it!
Another fun adventure in the SWAT Generation 2.0 series.
Nathan & Reggie were such a stubborn, sweet & meant-to-be couple!
Nathan… I really liked his ‘My Regina’ thoughts & the fact that he stayed celibate since his relationship with Eerie was over. Admittedly, I am a bit irked that he ever got together with Eerie in the first place (especially when he confessed the reason why to Reggie) but I adored how he’s always claimed that Reggie was his.
Reggie… She was an independent, feisty & caring woman. I loved how protective she was of both Nathan & Dare & how she dealt with the hot-mess, evil b*tch that was Eerie. Dealing with her was bad enough but the news we learned in the epilogue… Gah! That gutted me a bit.
I was thrilled to bits when all the secrets/lies were revealed about Eerie. I wish WAY more would’ve been done to her but am pretty much pleased with how things ended where she was concerned.
That epilogue though… My heart both hurt & smiled.
Excited to get my hands on the next book in the series, Nobody Knows, featuring Malachi. He so deserves his happily ever after!
Reggie and Nathan have shared a special relationship where at times they were friends and at times they were each other’s nemesis but when it mattered, they would always be there for each other. Being friend was not enough for Reggie, so he created a life away from him until their worlds come together once again.
Nathan has left his baseball career in the past and is now a member of the SWAT which causes their lives to collide once again when he comes to her aid. Although he has never voiced it he has been in love with Reggie for as long as he can remember but between the secret they share and the secret from his past things are about to become very complicated.
Reggie and Nathan have always belonged together and although their journey had its turmoil and twists, they finally realized it as well.
If there is a couple who walks the line between love and hate then it is Reggie and Nathan. Their families have been best friends for years but the two of them… Even though they can’t see eye to eye on anything they still had each other’s backs.
And they have also kept a big secret from everyone for years until now. Now it looks like everything is coming out of the closet. Nathan needs her now to have his back now more than ever. But maybe now is also the time to let each other know their true feelings.
As usual Lani delivers an amazing story filled with love, drama, happiness, sweetness, and definitely some suspense added in to complete the mix. A story I couldn’t put down from start to end. I always read this authors books in one day and always craving more. I can’t wait for the next dose of Swat Next Generation 2.0 😊
5 Stars!
The SWAT Generation 2.0 is back with its tenth standalone and y'all, oh. my. goodness. All of the BEST and complicated feels in this beauty.
Officially Over It gives us Nathan and Reggie's story and whew, what a journey they had to tell. Childhood frenemies to something so much more. They find that sometimes the fine line between love and hate doesn't always stay solid... that sometimes it begins to blur... and it begins to blur so much that it becomes non-existent in every single moment they have.
Hot, undeniable chemistry. Twists and turns you'll never see coming. Heat, heart, drama, angst, and all the feels. A story that'll keep you on the edge of you seat from the first page to the very last word. You'll feel it all and you feel it deep. Reggie and Nathan are going to hit a home run, even if the run there is bumpy.
Lani Lynn Vale sure does know how to write an epic romance, with just about every single book she pens. This one was no different... it's a must read in every single unforgettable that there is.
I highly recommend this book.
