RSVP for Culture Shock in College: A Community Conversation
For students new to Penn, entering classes can be a jarring encounter with unfamiliar norms and expectations. Penn’s academic and campus culture may feel particularly disruptive to students underrepresented here, whether first generation, highly aided, and/or students of color. This Community Conversation will bring together faculty, graduate and undergraduate students together to explore how we can help students better navigate this culture and mitigate the shock that some experience entering it. Participants will discuss their own encounters with culture shock in the classroom, and collaborate to consider changes we can make to have a positive impact on student thriving.
