Minton Tin-Glazed Majolica Pictorial Lidded Vase

About the Item

Rare Minton Tin-Glazed Majolica Pictorial lidded vase with cupid handles. Features a pictorial scene of people in a country landscape. The vase was painted by J D Rochfort - an artist who painted Minton pottery, active 1860s-1870s, who took up pottery decoration as a hobby. Colouration: blue, ochre, grey, are predominant. The piece bears maker's marks for the Minton pottery. Marks include a factory specific date cipher for the year 1864. The piece is also signed numerous times, by the artist J D Rochfort.
