‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ star Tessa Thompson clarifies ‘erotic’ powers comments

Tessa Thompson took to Instagram to clarify her comments about Valkyrie's "erotic" powers.

Tessa Thompson raised a lot of eyebrows recently when she seemed to suggest that Valkyrie would be getting a major power upgrade upon her return in Thor: Love and Thunder later this year. When we last saw the ancient warrior in Avengers: Endgame, Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder named her his successor as ruler of New Asgard, so expect her to be in a very different place in the Taika Waititi-directed sequel.

But now it seems this won’t include her getting some weird new powers, after all. In a recent interview, Thompson spoke about how Valkyrie guides the dead into Valhalla, the Asgardian afterlife, as well as occasionally reviving people – something which she described as “quite erotic.” Seeing as we hadn’t seen any evidence of this in Thor: Ragnarok, Thompson appeared to be confirming that these abilities would factor into Love and Thunder.

The Westworld actress has now cooled down any speculation of this sort, though, with a recent Instagram post. Thompson took to her stories to share a selfie, and her caption to the pic cleared up any confusion. You can see a screenshot of her post for yourself below:

“In talking about Valkyrie to W Mag, I was talking generally about powers that are canon and that I loved in reading the comics and not Thor: Love and Thunder,” she wrote. “I shan’t be a home for spoilers.”

By the sounds of things, then, Thompson was merely chatting about Valkyrie’s powers from the comics that haven’t made it into the MCU yet and was not discussing plot points from Love and Thunder. Even if that is the case, however, we’re hoping to find out a lot more about the heroine this time around. Discovering her actual name would be a good place to start!

After a few release date reshuffles, Thor: Love and Thunder is locked in to blast into theaters this July 6.
