It’s Friday, the week is nearly done, so let’s kick back and reflect on another eventful week for the retail technology space. Here's your briefing on the most important and interesting stories from the past five days.

1. Amazon Scout delivery robot is coming to the UK

Amazon is developing its Amazon Scout vehicles for use in the UK following the coronavirus powered boom in online shopping. Work is taking place at its Cambridge centre.

2. Tesco Red Door launches as retailer announces innovation push

Tesco has launched Tesco Red Door, in which the grocery giant invites those with new products, ideas or emerging technologies with the potential to cause disruption to contact its newly established Group Innovation team.

3. Iceland embarks upon online delivery hiring spree

Iceland has announced the creation of more than 3,000 new jobs as it looks to meet the demand for online shopping created by the coronavirus outbreak. 

4. George at Asda kicks off Scan For More trial

George at Asda has launched a new barcode scanning trial.

With Scan For More, customers can scan a barcode with their mobile camera, which will then direct them to the product page on George.com. 

The aim of the trial, which is taking place at Asda’s Stevenage innovation store, is to give them an alternative to shopping in-store if their size is out of stock. They can also check out customer reviews.

5. Walmart and Tesco green light drone delivery tria

Walmart has announced a drone delivery pilot with Flytrex.

This has launched in Fayetteville, North Carolina and focuses on delivering select grocery and household essential items from Walmart stores.

Meanwhile, Tesco will next month trial grocery home deliveries with drones. This will take place in Ireland, where the grocery giant’s partner Manna has a licence to operate.
