SEOUL - South Korea marked its largest daily increase in the number of coronavirus infections in five months on Saturday when it reported 166 new cases, most of which were in Seoul and surrounding metropolitan areas.

South Korean health authorities said of the largest count of daily cases since March 11, 139 were traced to Seoul and Gyeonggi Province and a significant portion of them were linked to cluster infections involving church members.

The country has now seen a triple-digit rise for two days in a row.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in South Korea has topped 15,000 with the death toll standing at 305, according to Korea's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
