PokerStars launches multi-product offering in Greece

PokerStars has made its multi-product offering  available in Greece under the terms of a full operating licence from the Hellenic Gaming Commission (HGC).

The licence, secured in July of last year, enables the Flutter Entertainment firm to operate sports betting and gaming products, launching the PokerStars, PokerStars Sports and PokerStars Casino brands.

PokerStars offering will therefore include sports betting wagering, casino titles, real and play money poker games and tournaments and promotions, available via its web and app-based platforms across desktop, tablet and mobile for iOS and Android.

Dan Taylor, CEO of Flutter International, said: “Launching PokerStars under a full local licence in Greece follows months of hard work from teams across the business.

“I’d like to thank them all for helping to make PokerStars’ range of safe and trusted products available to players in Greece and for contributing towards our ongoing strategy of growing our business in international regulated markets.”

The development marks a further expansion of Flutter Entertainment’s European capabilities, following on from the opening of its strategic hub in the Spanish city of Ceuta to support its operations in the country.

PokerStars, along with the FTSE100 gambling group’s sports betting brand Betfair, has been operating in Spain since 2011, and will be backed by the new hub, which will function as part of the wider Flutter International division.

Meanwhile, the company strengthened its standing in the Italian betting market last month by acquiring leading operator Sisal from US private equity fund CVC Capital for a total consideration of €1.9 billion (£1.62bn).

The firm detailed that both PokerStars and Betfair would play a key role in its Italian commercial strategy, where it intends to leverage the two brands in combination with the newly purchased Sisal with the objective of establishing a 20% market share.

“This an an exciting time for Poker. The Greek poker market has been waiting for PokerStars to return for a long time” -commented Greek market affiliate Johannes Turunen CMO at BeastsOfPoker.com
