Fahamettin Akıngüç Honorary Founder President gave an interview to Cumhuriyet Newspaper

Honorary Founder President civil engineer Fahamettin Akıngüç gave an interview to Figen Atalay from Cumhuriyet newspaper. Fahamettin Akıngüç stated in the interview titled “Qualification First” published in the newspaper's December 23, 2019 issue that education should be of international quality and mentioned that it is the responsibility of education not only for students but also for teachers.

International Patent Success Of Ömer Saatcioğlu (Instructor Of The Department Of Architecture)

Dr. N. Ömer Saatçıoğlu’s invention named ‘’ A Masonry Wall System’’ registered as a international patent (PCT) on behalf of our university, within the framework of appropriate Hay-bale building design work conditions in Turkey. The registered invention is the first international patent of our university and faculty Dr.N.Ömer SAATCIOĞLU has five inventions, three of which are registered and two are in the process of acceptance.

Culture Economy Talks - Big Economy with Small Household Appliances

Istanbul Kültür University Department of Economics carried out the event titled Big Economy with Small Household Appliances, which includes the success strategies of Arzum, within the scope of Culture and Economy Talks. Murat Kolbaşı, Chairman of the Board of Arzum, presented his innovative approaches in product development to our students on Tuesday, 17 December 2019 which is moderated by Prof. Dr. Sinan Alçın. Following the presentation of Arzum's world market shares, a final evaluation was made with the questions posed by the participants and recommendations were given to our students in this field.

Technical Trip to Perfetti Van Melle

The Industrial Engineering Club organized a technical visit to Perfetti Van Melle factory on Friday, December 20th under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fadime Üney Yüksektepe, Head of Industrial Engineering Department.

Fulle Gitsin Company Founder Orbay Keskin was the Guest of the Business Department

The Department of Management organized an event in which Fulle Gitsin Company Founder Orbay Keskin spoke. The event, which was held on Tuesday, December 19 at the Conference Hall of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, shared sector experiences with our students who want to become entrepreneurs.

Brand Strategies

Hakan Okay, one of the faculty members of the Faculty of Arts and Design, conducted the Brand Strategies course at the Department of Communication Arts by preparing a group project each year.

Our 4 th grade students who chose the food category from the fast-consuming consumer products sector in three different groups and selected one product with their varieties, discussed all the stages from the birth of a brand to the market theoretically during the semester. In the last lesson, they prepared a real model of the products and presented them to the purchasing officers from the private sector.

Turkey Integrated Reporting Network 1. Ordinary General Meeting and Panel

Public Relations and Promotion Program member A. Berrak Köten attended "Integrated Reporting Network 1. Ordinary General Assembly of Turkey and the Panel” which held in Borsa Istanbul on Thursday,19th of December. In the event, Turkey Integrated Reporting Network (ERTA) Executive Board Chairman Prof. Dr. Güler Aras explained the importance of reporting integrated in the world and in Turkey with a comprehensive presentation. Under the direction of Professor Dr. Güler Aras; Borsa Istanbul, TUSIAD, TKYD, IIRC Turkey explain ambassador, Argüden Governance Academy, the Global Compact Network Turkey, Garanti Bank, SKD established by Turkey and Cimsa ERTA, integrated with financial information on non-financial information of the company in a way aims to spread the reportings and integrated thinking.

Poland Wyższa Szkoła Bankowa Gdańsk University Visited IKU

Erasmus Staff Mobility from the University of Poland Wyższa Szkoła Bankowa Gdańsk Dr. Miłosz Gac and Klaudia Skelnik visited the Department of Business on Wednesday 18th. Department of Erasmus Coordinator Res. Assist. Emre Zehir gave information about the department to our guests, Basın Ekspres campus was also visited.

Film and TV Interviews III

The Radio and Television Technology Program hosted Kubilay Tat, screenwriter of the film Miracle in the 7th Ward, at the University of Cinema and TV Talks III on Friday, December 20, 2019. Meeting with our students at the event held at Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall, Tat talked about box office films, series and scenarios in the cinema sector and how to write adaptation scenarios. Tat told the students how to write the screenplay for the film Miracle in the 7th Ward.

“Nursing Undergraduate Training Workshop”

Assoc. Prof. Asiye GÜL, Head of the Department of Nursing of İstanbul Kültür University, attended the “Nursing Undergraduate Training Workshop” organized by Gülhane Faculty of Nursing on 18 December 2019.

Him & Her Theater Game

The theater, which was prepared to support the English education of the students of the Department of Foreign Languages at Istanbul Kültür University, was staged in English at Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall on December 20, 2019.

Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate Education Unit Visit

İstanbul Kültür University Faculty of Health Sciences Nursing Department Head Assoc. Prof. Asiye GÜL, Assist. Prof. Meral MADENOĞLU KIVANÇ, Research Assistant Rahime ATAKOĞLU visited the İstanbul Provincial Health Directorate Education Unit on 6 December 2019 to meet and discuss the internship opportunities in the clinical field.

Department of Economics Seminar- Finance in Pharmaceutical Sector

İstanbul Kültür University Department of Economics organized an event titled Finance in Pharmaceutical Sector within the scope of Economics Department Seminars in order to increase the knowledge of the students in the finance sector and to promote the financing of the pharmaceutical sector. Gilead Sciences Turkey Finance Director Can KİL seminars participated as a speaker on Monday, December 16, 2019 at 13:00 Press Express campus Conference Hall. The state of the pharmaceutical sector in Turkey was announced at the beginning of the seminar. In addition to that and the incentives the government has applied to investors who want to take part in this sector was discussed.

Digital media and marketing program & OMG!Media Industry Cooperation

IKU Vocational School Digital Media and marketing program signed a sectoral cooperation agreement with the OMG!Media which provides services in the fields of digital brand management, public relations, graphic design, web software and event management. With the signed protocol, students of Digital Media and marketing program will be offered internship and job opportunities.

International 17th National Nursing Congress

Assist Prof. Sevda TÜREN and Res. Assist. Rahime ATAKOĞLU from İstanbul Kültür University Nursing Department attended the 6th International 17th National Nursing Congress held in Ankara between 19-21 December 2019 to present their papers. In the main theme of the congress is to make a Difference in Nursing Care; Assist. Prof. Sevda TÜREN presented her ‘’Rare Genetic Disease: Fabry’’ oral presentation and Res. Assist. Rahime ATAKOGLU presented her oral presentation on Ethical Dilemmas in the Integration of Home Care and Palliative Care.

Experience Sharing Meeting

An experience sharing meeting was held in Şirinevler Campus, which brought together the English Preparatory Class students and the English Preparatory Class students who successfully completed their undergraduate studies. In the meeting organized by Istanbul Kültür University Department of Foreign Languages on December 19, 2019, Industrial Engineering Department student Zeynep Simge met with SEDEF English Preparatory Class students.

“Calculated Biochemical Approaches on Biomolecules”

Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, organized a seminar titled “Calculated Biochemical Approaches on Biomolecules” on November 29, Friday. In the seminar Assist. Prof Mehmet Özdil from Arel University was the speaker and a cross-section was presented from the application areas of different computational biochemistry techniques such as quantum mechanical calculations, molecular dynamics and molecular docking simulations, virtual drug scanning. At the end of the seminar, How bioinformatics tools explored the underlying questions of a wide range of diseases, from Alzheimer's to meningitis, viral infections to diabetes, was discussed.

The success of our students in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics

Zeynep Apaydın and Fadina Kuryayeva, students of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Istanbul Kültür University Graduate School of Education, participated in the International Congress entitled “3rd International Conference on Natural Products for Cancer Prevention and Therapy”. Congress held in Kayseri between 18-20 December 2019. They were awarded “Best Poster” with their poster presentations titled :

Zeynep Apaydin “Triptolide-mediated apoptotic cell death accelerated by metformin co-treatment in MiaPaca-2 cells“,

Fadina Kuryayeva “epibrassinolide promotes the apoptotic potential of gemcitabine in pancreatic cancer cells”.

“The Future of Medicine: Gene Treatments With A.I and Genetic Engineering”

The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, organized a seminar titled “The Future of Medicine: Gene Treatments With A.I and Genetic Engineering” on December 19, 2019, Thursday. In the seminar Cihan Taştan, who is the Co-Founder Of HiDNA R&D and Founder Of HiGen&Chief R&D Officer Of Acibadem Labcell Cell Laboratory, was the speaker and how bio-singularity was formed instead of technological singularity with genetic engineering; how it was exciting and open to developments as well as high added value, and how there were more ways to go were discussed. Also in the seminar Taştan discussed that although CRISPR / Cas technologies have opened the door to a golden age in the treatment of hereditary diseases with gene therapies, it is still at the beginning of the road and that it brings with its ethical debates.

Research Assistant Cennet Kara Özçalık from the Department of Nursing of Istanbul Kültür University participated in the “II. Multidisciplinary Approach to Child Abuse and Neglect Symposium” organized by İstanbul University and Child Protection Center on December 21-22, 2019.

Undoubtedly, it is an important virtue to recognize people around them. So how well do we know the building blocks of the Kültür Family? We devoted this part of our agenda to our colleagues who have worked hard to move Istanbul Kültür University one step further.

Yakup Türkdil – İstanbul Kültür University Turkish Language and Literature

I was born in 1986 in Antalya. I'm the youngest child of a farmer's family. After completing my primary and secondary education in Finike district of Antalya, I went to Kazakhstan for my graduate education. I studied at the Department of Turkish World Turkish Language and Literature at Korkut Ata Kızılorda State University in Kızılorda, Kazakhstan. Since my university is a pedagogical university, I had an internship at Kazakh schools for 4 years.

After returning to Turkey I got pedagogical formation at Pamukkale University. When I was still in my undergraduate education, I decided to become an academician and started to work in this way. I started my master's degree in Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures Program in Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Contemporary. After the end of the semester, I spent my second year at Gazi University. I started my PhD in 2016 at the Turkish Language and Literature Department of our university. I'm in the process of thesis now. I am conducting my thesis with Head of Turkish Language and Literature Department. Prof. Dr. Vahit Türk. I am studying in this direction since I have received education in contemporary Turkish dialects in undergraduate and graduate programs. In addition to this, I work intensively on teaching Turkish as a foreign language which I started to be interested in during my university years. My academic journey that started in IKÜTÜMER, has now going on in the Department of Turkish Language and Literature.

It was a bit of a coincidence that I joined the Kültür Family. In 2014, while examining the announcements of YÖK academic staff, I saw the announcement of Istanbul Kültür University. I didn't want to apply because I didn't want to live in Istanbul and I thought there would be too much demand; however, then I sent my application file for my family's suggestion even though I was reluctant. I succeeded in the exam and interview. Thus, I started my academic career with Istanbul Kültür University. The day I arrived at the Istanbul Kültür University Ataköy campus, it is just like yesterday. I'm glad I listened to my parents and sent the application file. The years I spent at IKU added a lot to me. First, my academic career began here. IKU introduced me to great students and people. It taught me to produce and teach in a peaceful environment. In the period that I was the instructor in İKUTUMER, I had the opportunity to improve all my academic knowledge about teaching Turkish. I also developed myself in the administrative field of IKUTUMER. Thanks to my years at IKUTUMER and Turkish Language Department, I have done many studies in the field of teaching Turkish to foreigners.

In 2017, the teaching set “Journey to Turkish” (A1-A2-B1-B2-C1) which we prepared for teaching Turkish as a foreign language was published in a private publishing house. I worked as a writer and assistant coordinator at every level of this set. Then, I started to prepare leveled reading book projects for teaching Turkish to foreigners. Subsequently, four books in the project were published in cooperation with the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities and a private publishing house. Two of my writers accompanied me in my projects. In the year of their publication, books were distributed to students in all academic centers, whose education is Turkish, in Turkey. Still, these books are taught in the Turkish educational centers, in different universities and private language courses. The remaining eight books of the series will be published very soon. In addition, two different reading book projects have been completed. Sixteen supplementary reading books prepared for the project are being prepared for printing.

Under the guidance of Turkey Maarif Foundation, in structuring and conducting Turkish teaching according to international language teaching standards which will fill an important gap in the field "Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language Program" was announced to be prepared. After my studies in the field of teaching Turkish, I was invited to prepare “Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language Program”. Thus, I took part in working groups composed of field experts working in various universities. As a result of long studies, we prepared “Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language Program”. Turkey Maarif Foundation, after the program was ready, make the project comes true that they continue to prepare Turkish books that are leveled from kindergarten until high school to teach Turkish in various countries around the world. In this project, I was assigned as the coordinator writer of the high school level. I am both the coordinator and the author of the books to be prepared.

In addition, within the scope of the Supporting the Integration of Syrian Children into the Turkish Education System ’project conducted by the Ministry of National Education, Turkish Language Teaching Program as a Foreign Language workshop was organized to develop programs to be used in teaching Turkish to foreign students. I was also invited to the working team of field experts established by the Ministry of National Education for these workshops. We are nearing the end of the work. The last workshop will be held in January 2020 in Antalya. All the work I do is what my university adds to me. My university was always with me in all of my achievements.

I have many memories in the years I spent at IKU. I was very impressed by the surprise that my foreign students whom I taught Turkish prepared on the teachers' day. Because being able to touch a student's heart and leave good marks on him was an incredible feeling. Another moment I could not forget was the moment I took my books that I wrote for teaching Turkish as a foreign language because these books were born in Istanbul Kültür University. The books included my experiences at my university.

It is very difficult to describe Istanbul Kültür University in a single word. To sum up with a few words; For me, IKU means family, friendship, peace, happiness, trust and unity.
