In 2018, the National Legislative Assembly approved Thailand's access to the World Intellectual Property Organization Copyright Treaty (WCT). As a signatory to the WCT, Thailand must amend relevant laws and regulations to be compliant with the WCT. The Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) proposed amendments to the current Copyright Act ("Draft Amendment") to comply with the WCT, as well as to amend some of the provisions which have proven to be difficult for copyright holders to apply or rely on in practice.

The Amendment was approved by the Thai Cabinet on 29 September 2020 and will now be submitted to the House of Representatives Coordination Committee for consideration before referral to the House of Representatives.

As the Draft Amendment is subject to change, we will continue to closely monitor its progress and provide updates on developments as they transpire.
