An ‘asparamancer’, who uses asparagus to forecast the future, claims large salaries for sports stars and celebrity obsession will become ‘things of the past’ this year.

Jemima Packington, who this week featured in Metro.co.uk’s ‘five predictions for 2020 that went incredibly, horribly wrong’, is also anticipating Royal divorces and a ‘new normal’ by June 2021.

Dubbed ‘Mystic Veg’, she interprets upcoming world events by chucking Vale of Evesham asparagus tips into the air and ‘reading’ how they land.

Jemima, who correctly forecast ‘success’ for England’s World Cup winning cricket team in 2019, has a mixed record when it comes to previous predictions. In 2020, she expected Donald Trump to win the US election, which he lost comfortably. But she can boast of success in some of her vaguer forecasts, including that ‘major UK political parties will see a shake-up sooner than predicted’, following the arrival of Sir Keir Starmer as Labour leader.

For the coming 12 months, one of her predictions is that: ‘Big salaries for star sportsman and the obsession with celebrities will become things of the past – the era of semi-professional sportsmen will re-emerge along with a focus on real heroes.’

That would be quite the turnaround given the salaries of some sports stars, and may also be bad news for Jemima, who considers herself ‘world-famous’ and an ‘international TV celebrity’.

The 65-year-old, from Evesham, has a starring role in Worcestershire’s popular asparagus festival in April.

In 2021, she predicts ‘at least two’ Royal divorces, and says Harry, the Duke of Sussex, ‘will return to the UK on his own in March’.

The world’s only known ‘asparamancer’ adds that Britain can expect a ‘spate of ill-health among Royals of all ages’ and that ‘the Queen will make an important announcement in June to coincide with her official birthday as Sovereign’.

On coronavirus, Jemima said: ‘Although the impact of Covid-19 will still be felt around the world, the vaccines will bring a return to the new normal by June 2021 although not a return to pre-pandemic days.’

Jemima's 2021 predictions

  1. Although the impact of Covid-19 will still be felt around the world, the vaccines will bring a return to the new normal by June 2021 although not a return to pre-pandemic days.
  2. Harry Duke of Sussex will return to the UK on his own in March when he will be advised there will not be an extension to his current terms.
  3. HM The Queen will make an important announcement in June to coincide with her official birthday as Sovereign and we can expect the announcement of at least two Royal divorces and a spate of ill-health amongst Royals of all ages.
  4. Former President Trump will be disowned by GOP members because of his appalling handling of the US domestic situation. He will not stand for a further term as President and his future is uncertain.
  5. The world’s population will become kinder and more tolerant as a direct result of the pandemic and governments will be more beholden to the will of their people.
  6. Big salaries for star sportsman and the obsession with celebrities will become things of the past – the era of semi-professional sportsmen will re-emerge along with a focus on real heroes.
  7. Foreign travel will become an occasional option rather than the annual norm.
  8. Extremes of weather as previously predicted will continue. Tropical storms will become more frequent. The Far East will be badly hit.
  9. There will be no second Scottish referendum.
  10. Vale of Evesham asparagus will continue to be recognised as the world’s best and Gus will become a popular name for baby boys born in 2021.

She also expects people across the world to become ‘kinder and more tolerant’ due to the pandemic.

But foreign travel will move from the ‘annual norm’ to an ‘occasional option’, Jemima suggests.

On politics, she does not anticipate a second Scottish referendum or Donald Trump standing for another term as US President.
