A Yonkers firefighter received an unforgettable call on his first day.
Yonkers probationary firefighter Michael Iacovello helped deliver a baby girl just hours into his first shift with Engine Company 303 on Tuesday morning.
When the crew got to the home on Riverdale Avenue, the baby was already crowning.
“You could hear her screaming from the moment we got to the door,” said Capt. Chris Canfield. “As we approached her up the stairs, we basically seen her on the floor in a lot of pain and the baby was crowning.”
Ninety-seconds later, she gave birth to a baby girl.
“This is the best job in the world and now I know what it really means,” Iacovello said.
The department told News 12 that the newborn and her mother are recovering and doing well.
