遊艇仔

從CantoDict第一頁粗略地看，發現一些有商榷的輸入，或有所補充，提出來供各義務編輯參考，因初來步到，不懂規矩，不知道這是否符合這網站的習慣，有冒犯之處，請各先進見諒。回頭再看，很多已作出適當的修訂，辛苦了各編輯。看來『拖油瓶』的意思=廣東話的『遊艇仔』。

There is no such term as 遊艇仔 in Cantonese. The correct term is 油瓶仔 which is, indeed, derived from 拖油瓶. I've corrected and updated the entry.

because the term "遊艇"(yacht) doesn't seem to fit the description. rather a "油艇" (small speed boat, usually associated with being hauled inside a larger "parent" boat) seems much more fitting.

今天上課，老師偶然提到「油瓶子」的起源。

古代，夫妻的結合意味著兩個家族的融合。所以，如果丈夫亡故或夫妻離異，妻子帶著亡夫/前夫之子女改嫁，後父其實承擔了很大的責任，要照顧另一個家族的成員，即亡夫/前夫之子女。設若，這些子女有何失閃，例如亡故、重病等，他們所歸屬的家族就可能會追究。因此，妻子改嫁帶來的子女一般稱作「有病子」，意指妻子改嫁時，他們已是有病之身，那麼責任就不在後父處。後來，「有病子」依諧音漸變為「油瓶子」。於是，「油瓶子」成為這些人的代名詞，專門用來代表那些妻子改嫁時帶來的子女。粵語，作「油艇仔」。

老師最後補充道，這些只不過是基礎知識，如果連這個也不懂的話，你的文化知識就真的有點不夠了。
聽罷，我只能低著頭，汗顏不已，並暗暗多謝老師，給我上這寶貴的一課。

Sorry if “no such term” sounds too strong, but what I’ve meant to say is merely that 遊艇仔 is an incorrect term.

Btw, your recent contribution to CantoDict by detecting many errors in its entries is much appreciated. I think the other editors as well as myself well know that there are still many errors in CantoDict, but the valuable input from you and other posters would let us know where the priorities lie. Please keep on posting.

I’m not sure whether 油艇仔 should be added as variant to 油瓶仔. Though the number of results for 油艇仔 seems impressive, yet all dictionaries that I’ve come across so far do not accept any variant other than the standard term 油瓶仔. This is a rather subjective issue, and I have no objection to other editor adding 油艇仔 as a variant.

I agree that 油艇 fits the description more than 遊艇. But 油瓶 fits the description most.

Quite right! The term 油瓶仔 originates from the ancient practice of buying oil and getting an oil bottle/jar free. This is analogous to marrying a widow and getting a son from her previous marriage.

That’s not correct. It’s still 油瓶仔 in Cantonese. The misunderstanding might be due to many Cantonese do not realize that 瓶 has a colloquial pronunciation of [peng2]. The believe that they have heard the second character as [teng5] when combined with 油 [jau4].
