Bulk editing
You can use the bulk editor tool to make changes to multiple products and product variants at the same time. From your Shopify admin, you can select the products that you want to change, choose which properties you want to update, and then make your changes.
When a product has multiple variants, then you can only bulk edit the inventory of the product from the Inventory section in your Shopify admin.
You can also use the bulk editor to edit the properties of your collections and customers.
The more information you try to bulk change at one time, the longer your bulk changes will take to complete. You can also use a CSV file to bulk edit a larger number of list items for your products, your inventory, or your customers. After your CSV file is uploaded in your Shopify admin, you receive a confirmation email from Shopify at the email account that you used to set up your Shopify store.
If you use the Microsoft Edge web browser to edit list items in bulk, then it can cause errors due to a limited URL length. Consider using other web browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.

Select list items to edit
You can select list items to edit in bulk in your Shopify admin.
Steps:
- From your Shopify admin, click Products, Collections, Inventory, or Customers.
- Use the checkboxes to select each list item that you want to edit.
- Click Bulk edit.
Select list item properties to edit
The bulk editor displays the list items that you selected and some of their properties in a table. You can change which properties display in the table.
For example, if you're bulk editing your products, then each column in the table represents a product property, such as price, SKU, and compare-at price. Each row in the table represents a selected product or product variant.
To add a property to the bulk editing table, click Columns, and then select all the properties that you want to add to the table.
To remove a property from the bulk editing table, click Columns, and then deselect all the properties that you want to remove from the table.
Edit list item properties in bulk
After you select the properties that you want to edit, you can click the fields in the table to enter new data or edit existing data.
Steps:
- Click and then type in a field in the table to enter or edit the property for that list item.
- Click Save. If any errors occur, then you need to fix them, and then click Save again.
Shortcuts in the bulk editor
To help you navigate and edit list item properties efficiently in the bulk editor, you can use the following shortcuts. When multiple cells are selected, apply any edits to the outlined active cell to update all selected cells.
| Action | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| Move between cells | Click to select a table cell, and then press an arrow key on your keyboard to move to the next editable cell in that direction. |
| Select multiple cells that aren't adjacent | Hold the Alt key on a PC or the command key on a Mac and click different cells. |
| Select multiple adjacent cells | Click to select a cell, then hold the shift key and click the last cell in the range of cells that you want to select. |
| Select and edit multiple fields at the same time | Click and drag your cursor across multiple cells. This works for typing text and numbers, clicking checkboxes, and using drop-down menus in the selected cells. |
| Apply the value of a cell to the cells below or above it | Click and drag the cell's fill handle across the cells below or above. |
| Adjust the width of a column | Click the divider to the right of a column title and drag your cursor to adjust the width of the column. |
Update the invalid values, then save again error message
If you receive the error message "Update the invalid values, then save again" when attempting to save your bulk edits, then one or more products or variants have invalid values that are blocking the save operation. This can occur even when the error is in a column that isn't currently displayed in your bulk editor view.
This error typically occurs when:
- A variant is missing a required SKU.
- There are metafield validation errors. If you have a high volume of metafield definitions, then it might be more efficient to fix metafield validation errors first in the metafield bulk editor, and then return to bulk editing your products or variants.
To identify and resolve the invalid values, add the SKU and metafield columns in the bulk editor, and then review the values.
Variants aren't grouped together in inventory bulk editor
When using the bulk editor for inventory, variants might not be grouped together as expected. The bulk editor displays variants in the order they were sorted before you accessed the bulk editor, not by product grouping.
The inventory bulk editor prioritizes the sorting order over product parent grouping. By default, the inventory page sorts products and variants by quantity based on stock levels at the inventory location. Because inventory is tracked at the variant level, variants from the same product might appear separated when they have different inventory quantities.
If you want variants to appear in a specific order, then sort your inventory list on the Inventory page before accessing the bulk editor.
