Russia regrets suspension of its UN Human Rights Council membership — Kremlin spokesman

"We will continue defending our interests using every possible legal means", Dmitry Peskov stressed

LONDON, April 8. /TASS/. Moscow regrets the suspension of Russia’s membership in the UN Human Rights Council (HRC), Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Sky News in an interview.

"We are sorry about that and we will continue defending our interests using every possible legal means," he said.

On Thursday, UN General Assembly passed the Western resolution on suspension of Russia form the Human Rights Council during the special session. A total of 93 votes were cast in favor of the resolution, with 24 against, while 58 delegations abstained from the vote.

In order for the resolution to be passed, two thirds of votes are needed, and votes of those who abstained are not taken into account, which makes the total number of counted votes 117; 93 is more than two thirds of that number, which made it possible for the resolution to pass.
