Principals Report

NAPLAN this week
NAPLAN is a point in time check to ensure your child is learning the essential skills of reading, writing and mathematics – skills that will set them upon the path to success as adults.
This week you should ensure your child gets adequate sleep, nourishing food and has some relaxing outdoor play after school. Remember, they have been sitting at a desk concentrating hard all day.
The testing will take place in the Gym at Huon and in the PAC at Felltimber, it can be a little cooler so please ensure your child has plenty of clothing to keep warm.

Positive COVID results
Please send a notification email to the school if your child returns a positive result to
covidresults@wmyc.vic.edu.au on the same day the positive result is received. Notify the school if there is a COVID case in your household as your child has become a close contact. Report to the Department of Health System https://vacsdata.educationapps.vic.gov.au/detvac/s/ratest or phone the hotline on 1800 675 398.

RAT Testing - Screening in schools
The supply of RATs will continue for the first 4 weeks of this term. The screening recommendations remain the same; twice a week. Students and staff who have tested positive for COVID-19, and have completed their 7-day isolation period, now do not need to undertake rapid antigen test (RAT) screening for 12 weeks after their release from isolation. This was previously 8 weeks.

Household Contacts
Students and staff who are household contacts of a COVID-19 case are no longer required to quarantine. They can return to school as long as they undertake rapid antigen tests (RAT) 5 times within their 7-day period and wear face masks indoors if they are aged 8 and above unless they have a valid exemption. If any household contact returns a positive RAT result during this period, they must isolate for 7 days and not attend school.

CHILD SAFETY STANDARDS
Child Safety Standards – Article for Parent/Carers’ Newsletter
Promoting and protecting the safety and interests of children is a top priority for our school and Wodonga Federation of Government Schools (The Federation). Our School, along with the other schools within The Federation, has a zero tolerance of child abuse.
Since 2016, schools and organisations in Victoria who work with children up to 18 years old have had to implement the Victorian Child Safe Standards.
These standards have now been reviewed and Victoria has adopted a new set of Child Safe Standards which align with the National Principles for Safe Organisations. These Standards come into effect from July 1, 2022.
Our school along with the other schools in the Federation are required to review and update our existing Child Safe Policy and Code of Conduct.
We welcome feedback from our school community on the draft Federation Child Safe Policy and Code of Conduct.
