These smart-watches, worn by every avatar, house a telecommunication device that transmits data through the gateway and back to our reality. It also receives instructions from the Sojourner in our world who is “driving” the avatar. Gate-Watches also track the accumulated possessions for a given avatar, and they enable communications between the Sojourner avatars.
Binarys is building a gateway that connects their Gangnam office to another reality — which also has a Binarys office in their version of Gangnam.
Dr. Yang’s discovery of gateways between parallel worlds didn’t set the world ablaze when it was announced — because it wasn’t announced at all. Binarys hid the entire project, obscuring it physically (based in a high-security but nondescript office tower in Gangnam) and financially (the project doesn’t appear in any investor prospectus or quarterly report).

The nature of the reali2 gateway makes transmitting information easy, but transporting matter hard. Thus it isn’t easy to conquer or exploit Reali2. Even the information transmission requires cooperation from the other version of Binarys. It’s possible to construct lifelike technorganic bodies called “Avatars” for users in our world to operate through remote control and give them a chance to experience the other reality.
