Daisy's Darkness

Rate this book
How did my life become such a battle just to breathe? When did I start to hate
everything that is me? Along the way where did I lose my family, the Horde, and their support I have always relied on? Why did I push them away? What’s going on with me? Who am I anymore? Why do I even care when it seems no one else does?

My life is a constant struggle. Getting up everyday is becoming harder and harder. I feed the demons of my loneliness by myself because I refuse to reach out for help. Why won’t I reach out? As the emptiness of my very existence threatens my sanity, I search for ways to make myself just feel. The problem is each time I find a new way to feel it’s not only causing me pain but also bodily harm.

Will I be able to focus on the light amongst all the pain and darkness my mind sees? Will the people fighting to bring me back win or will the emptiness of my soul finally pull me down to nothingness? I don’t have a clue.

This book is part of D.M. Earl's Wheels and Hogs series, so many of the characters from past books come in to this story, which deals with some very important topics. This book tackles a lot of very serious issues facing teens today: eating disorders, cutting, social media abuse, bullying, and suicide.
A large part of this book is told from Daisy's POV, explaining how she feels, that she isn't "cool" like her older brother, and the turmoil moving into high school causes. High school cliques are brutal, and when mean girls target Daisy and her friends, the stakes are raised to dangerous highs.
To make matters worse, Daisy's brother is dating the queen mean girl, so Daisy isn't even safe in her own home. Pinched, punched, and pushed, Daisy takes a lot of abuse but feels she can't say anything for fear it could become worse. It doesn't help the mean girls call her fat as well as being physically being attacked. She tumbles into a vicious cycle of purging and when that doesn't give her the relief she needs she begins cutting.
The story is so much more than about the darkness Daisy faces, it also shows how social media plays into bullying and the devastating effects it can lead to. While Daisy feels alone and isolated, her family and friends come together to help and support her. Her brother, Jagger, becomes her savior and protector and on the horizon is a potential love interest for Daisy down the line in the form of Caden's younger brother, Griffin. So hopefully there will be more to their story in the future.
Ms. Earl writes an important, heartfelt story of the strength of family and that family isn't alway people who are related, but those you choose to have in your life. Growing up in today's society is much more difficult than it has been in the past, and Ms. Earl shows how schools fall short and parents can miss the warning signs in their teens. However, it's not a book without a hopeful ending, the potential for a romance between Griff and Daisy, and the impending migraines that may cause Des, her stepfather, is well worth the read.

Hard Hitting

I have to hand it to this author for not being afraid to touch on some subjects that so many kids are facing. Dealing with bullying, eating disorders, cutting and social media bullying just to name a few this book takes on a life of its own. I have to say that it pulled me in and had me feeling invested in Daisy. This may have some triggers points for some but it definitely brought things to the forefront. I always look forward to see what this author has coming next for us.

This is the 6th book in the Wheels & Hogs Series and it has a much different vibe but brings us all the characters that we have come to love along the way. Most of the book is from Daisy's POV as she goes through the hell of teenage reality in this day and age. Self image, bullying, hormones and social media just to name a few. D.M. brings some pretty heavy subject matter to light in a way many might not think about but sadly it is all too real.

Daisy has never really saw herself as one of the "cool" kids. She is more of a nerdy girl with her group of friends the "queenies". They have always had good open and honest conversation amongst them and been there for each other. As more thing start happening and Daisy seems to be falling into the darkness of her thoughts and feelings she draws back a little and starts keeping things to herself. Before she knows it she feels isolated and like she can't talk to anyone as they just won't understand and think she is crazy. Her home soon doesn't even feel safe when her older brother start dating the head mean girl of the school.

When her big brother Jagger realizes that Daisy is having some serious problems, he is quick to bring things forward to the rest of the family. Needing to be her protector and savior as he has always been. Daisy realizes she has a family that loves her and will stand by her in anything. Being there for her to help her heal and work through her issues. Both blood family and the Horde who have a strong presence.

Griffin has noticed Daisy a long while ago but was playing his time waiting for her to grow up a little. He is quick to get involved when he realizes that she is struggling. He has been there done that and wears his badges pretty honestly. Life can suck and it can be difficult to endure but it is worth every step of the work to get to the other side. It is constant work and having someone close that understands an be very helpful. It's clear that Griffin has feelings for Daisy and I am pretty sure they are returned. Maybe we will get more from Griffin and Daisy in the books to come.

This had to have been a hard book to write and for some the subject matter will be too much, too graphic but the author has done a great job of blending the bad with the love of family and friends. Making the story something we can relate to and understand from a different point of view. As a mother of two teen daughters it was like watching a train wreck but not being able to take my eyes off it either, devouring the book in one day. So very worth the read.

Daisy's Darkness is book six in the Wheels and Hogs series by D. M. Earl. Daisy's story is a beautifully emotional that was as heartbreaking to read as it was heartwarming. Author Earl addresses some issues that our young adults have to struggle with in day to day life. A person is so impressionable at that age and this author has captured all those emotions, highs, lows, extremely well. The story was written very well and the story was really relatable. Daisy does not realise her self worth and is a victim of bullying. Her soul was hurting from the weight she carried and the pain she endured just by surviving another day.

Daisy's Darkness was an unexpected surprise and the story left me battered but elated that I got to experience it in its raw and life like state. 5 stars.

Daisy's Darkness By D.M Earl is book #6 in the Wheels and Hogs Series. This Story pulled at my heart strings from the very start. I have two daughters who have struggled with anxiety and depression so this book really hit home for me.
It brings valuable awareness to topics which are often felt to be difficult to discuss...Eating Disorders, Bullying and cutting which effect many world wide. I applaud the Author for presenting these topics in a meaningful and heartfelt way.
It is mostly written from Daisys point of view with some parts from characters such as Jagger, Daisys big brother and Griffin a friend who may just end up being more some day and many more important people in Daisys life.
This is a must read

Daisy

This is one tough book to read. All the guys and gals from the Hoard are here. So are some of the subjects really difficult to deal with. Anyone who knows or loves teens should read it! There are so many hidden problems. The author has taken a character from a family we love and shows the reader just how difficult things can be. Never fear, there is a light at the end.

This is a different kind of book but don't miss it. You should bring tissues along for the ride.

Daisy's Darkness (Wheels & Hogs Book 6) by D.M. Earl is a YA story and one full of the usual teenage mean girls, drama and angst and so much more. DM is a new author to me, so I haven’t read the other books in the series, but I didn’t feel like it mattered all that much in the grand scheme of things. It is an emotional and hard hitting read but DM does not shy away from the telling. The story shares some major issues that YA’s face in today’s world such as bullying and abuse, eating disorders and suicide and other mental health issues so be aware in case of triggers.

You are going to want to hit out at the mean biatches and take them down whilst gathering Daisy and her friends into a safety bubble full of hugs and love.

Daisy's Darkness ripped my heart out. Daisy's journey was very emotional. With the support of her family and queens she realizes just how strong she is.
Teens face so many problems in school and in life that parents and teachers sometimes neglect to see the warning signs. Bullying, abuse, eating disorders and  drugs. Daisy's Darkness is a story that every parent should read. Absolutely fabulous!!

This book was so emotional, and hard to read sometimes. I had to stop a few times to get my head around it. It may have hit home for some of the things she went through. It was a very raw story but it was well written.

This was a heart-wrenching read from beginning to end. The book was filled with a ton of emotion so much, so it brings tears to your eyes. Although this is a fictional story a lot of children of all ages like Daisy suffer these challenges, and we need to pay more attention to those around us. Daisy broke my heart with every spiral she took.

Overall we really enjoyed the story because it felt real was about family and struggles and pain and darkness. We loved the cast of characters the ones Daisy calls family. Loved Daisy's brother for stepping up to the plate as well as Griffin. A touching story filled with heart and soul.

This was a tough story to read with the emotional journey of Daisy and her friends. My heart hurt for them all as I fully understood the problems they were experiencing. I did love how the family finally stepped up when truly needed as did the queens. There were definitely sad moments as well as triumphs. This is a story worth reading and I thank D.M. Earl for tackling such subjects. I enjoyed the story and the series, and look forward to more.

I received a copy of this story through Enticing Journey Book Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.

This book contains graphic descriptions of experiences which could be emotional triggers, read with caution.

Daisy in a teenager with a loving family and a circle of friends she is close to, but she is also being bullied by a group of girls and it is made even worse when her older brother starts to date on of them over the summer holidays, when school starts again, she is struggling with everything and because of all this stress, lack of feeling safe, feeling like she has no control of her life and the mountain of school work she has to do for her advanced classes, she is spiralling and she can’t seem to reach out, no matter how hard she tries, she believes that only she can deal with her demons, alone.

When she returns from her winter school break, she is trying to regain some control, she is restricting her food intake to keep the weight loss going which she started over summer, she is also trying different things to release the thoughts, stresses and demons in her head, but as she prepares for the first day back, she knows that it is going to be hell and that the bullies are just going to get worse. The one thing she is looking forward to is seeing her friends, her queens, although she still feels alone despite all of the people she has around her, however, her worst fears come to pass when she is intentionally hurt by the bullies who blame her for her brother breaking up with one of them, as she is held down, she is in pain, but there is nothing she can do about it and she knows that if she tells someone about what really happened, it will only get worse for her. Eventually she has to go to the hospital, the injuries she sustained are so bad she passes out and wakes up there with no idea how ill she has been, but she still cannot open up to her parents.

As Daisy continues to spiral, she begins to hurt herself more and more, her parents and brother are worried about her as they don’t know what's going on, she keeps everything to herself and just clams up when they ask her about it all, she knows she is doing things which are especially risky and that hiding them isn’t helping, but she can’t stop herself. She feels so alone and disconnected from everyone and everything that she can’t see what is happening around her, but it is when someone finds what she is doing when she is caught in the act that things finally come to a head.

Will Daisy be able to reach out to those around her to help her to battle her inner demons, or will she continue in this downward spiral and become even more of a danger to herself than she already is? This book is dark, yet enlightening and makes you think as you look through the eyes of a troubled girl and those around her, it is not for the faint of heart and it is not an easy read, but it is well worth the time you take to go along Daisy’s journey with her.

This story packs a huge punch and is full of real-world problems that people deal with every day. The author does it in such way, though, which is respectful and really addresses the issues. You get multiple sides of a story and how it affects them...which I found to be very interesting. The topics discussed in this story include bullying, mental and physical abuse, eating disorders, cutting, suicide, and death.

Daisy is a self-proclaimed nerd that is not cool and has few friends. The friends that she does have, they are a tight knit group. She even has a close family that has her back. However, she is being bullied and tormented at school. She tries to deal with it on her own, without involving those around her. This only leads to her isolating and alienating herself from her support group. She turns to very unhealthy ways to cope with her feelings. As her secrets start coming to light, Daisy is dealt more blows as friends of hers (who are also being tormented by the same group) end up in the hospital after their own ways of dealing with the pain. Will Daisy be able to recover and find herself again? Or is this dark cloud hanging over her going to be too much to bear?

I found the supporting characters in this story to be great for the storyline. I have not read the other books in the series, but I don't feel like not reading their stories impacted my understanding of this story. To see a group of people rally around one of their own and support them and not judge them made for a good story. I sat down to read this story and finished in one sitting. I was invested in the story and needed to know what would happen.

When you are at the lowest part of your life, can you recover or will the darkness take you away.

Daisy is a girl who's not really a cool or popular kid but has a cool group of friends who they can talk openly to each other and give each other the support they require to navigate High School, until Daisy finds herself swallowed up the darkness of her own world and feels that there is no-one who can help her.

Her life gets even worst when her brother starts dating one of her tormentors and thus cutting her off from her family completely. All Griffin can see that there is something not quite right with Daisy but can his friendship with her help her come to terms with the vicious circle which has become her life.

This story broke my heart, the subject matter may be difficult to read but it was written with dignity and a true understanding of the troubles that this character portraited. The sheer hopelessness that this character felt towards the end not being able to even confide within the family dynamic and have to hold everything in was gut wrenching to read. I hope if young girls read this story and are going through the same things have comfort and the strength to ask for help and be like Daisy in the end when she get helps from her loving family and friends.

The story was well written and the characters where brilliantly written. This is the first book I have read in this series and I believe this can be read as a stand alone story but I have downloaded the other books in this series to read as I really enjoyed this story and wanted to read more about these wonderful characters.

This book is about as real as it can get when it comes to shedding a light on the many obstacles, feelings, and scary and scarring topics that teenagers deal with today. I don’t know if it is because I currently have a thirteen year old girl and 5 other kiddos who will hit teenage years, or if it just was plain mind consuming for me because I could relate on a personal level at that age as well, but this book will be with me for a long long time to come. I will say it does have some extremely triggering topics and may be difficult if you do not feel steady or strong in your mental health at the moment. However, I say that with caution because I am a strong believer in words being a healing thing for many. It is nice to feel as if you are not alone in the world whether it is a fiction or nonfiction read. This author, DM Earl, has done a wonderful job as well handling the topics in a way that I found constructive not just for mere filler in a story. I will not give away any of the gritty details because that is something you will want to read and enjoy for yourself, but I will say this is not one you will want to miss. I am new to DM Earl and her writing so I have not read the other books in this series, yet, but I was completely able to dive right in and not feel as if I needed those books to enjoy or understand this one. I will be going to dive into them as soon as possible, and look forward to seeing what else we will get in the future from DM Earl.

Daisy’s Darkness is the sixth book in the Wheels & Hogs series by D.M. Earl. This is my first read by D.M, so I had no idea of what to expect- but the blurb lured me, so I took a chance and dove in. I hadn’t realised at the time, that this was the sixth book in a series, so I am jumping into it a bit backwards- I was happy to discover that even though I hadn’t read the previous 5 books, it didn’t impact on my reading of this story. It can be read as a standalone, but having said that, I am intrigued enough to want to go back and read them, too.
The story is emotional, so I recommend having a box of tissues beside you while you read, as you will probably need them. This is a YA story, so it is full of all the angst and teenage drama you would expect from teenagers- but it also gives a insight into some of the real problems faced by our young ones in today’s society- exploring issues such as bullying, peer pressure, the huge role social media plays in their lives, depression, anxiety, cutting, self-image, self-esteem, eating disorders, fitting in, isolation, loneliness, and dealing with dark thoughts. The story is heart-wrenching and a little dark in places, but the author balances all the heaviness with lighter moments, family love and understanding, and a touch of romance.
Looking forward to seeing what the rest of the series holds.

Thank you, D.M. Earl!

Daisy’s Darkness (Wheels & Hogs Book 6) by D.M. Earl - Review by Gail Guerrero

Five Stars

Have you ever had that feeling that the nothingness was bliss? That you can’t understand why you’re here? That all consuming feeling that things would be better if you were gone? That’s the emotions this books brings me. I remember being a teen and feeling like I shouldn’t exist. Feeling like I’m just that random character in a story that passes everyone like a ghost on a ship. Even as an adult there are times when life is too much. This story was amazing for the simple fact that we all can relate. Even the most joyful person you know has felt that darkness. As a mom with a soon to be teen daughter I understand and feel the fear. The thought that my daughter could feel this way hurts. Knowing that all you can do is let them know you are here. Man the feels this book brought out is just ugh. If you’re ready to step into your teenage shoes again and get a glimpse of what today’s youth are feeling read this book.

This is the 6th book in this awesome series and is Daisy’s story. This is a beautifully written emotional roller coaster which is not for the faint-at-heart, as this tale covers a tough and sensitive topic. Daisy faces the turmoil of entering high school and becoming the target of bullying, where she is not even safe in her own home environment as her brother is dating the leader of the mean girls. Continually living in fear and feeling isolated take its toll which sadly leads to other serious issues, such as suicide and eating disorders, until it comes to the point where her family and friends are made aware of what is going on and step in to help and support her. Life is looking up for Daisy and she has a potential suiter in Griffin. This author has done an exceptional job in weaving this tale which is a heartfelt and realistic, and with family, friendships, and love. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Daisy’s Darkness (Wheels & Hogs #6) by D.M. Earl

4-stars

This is the 6th book in the Wheels & Hogs series and also my first book by this author. In saying that I can say that this book can be read as a standalone. I was able to piece everything together without any issues.

This book started off so strong with Daisy’s dairy logs and didn’t not let up until the end. Each chapter kept me sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to find out how everything was going to play out.

This author did an amazing job with writing this story, it’s incredibly heart breaking, intense, emotional and truly tragic. This story hits on so many real issues that young people face every single day, from bullying, eating disorders, self-harm and suicide. There were times where I found it hard to read for those reasons but I loved how the story sheds light on real life.

I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone looking for an emotional read!

WOW! What an awesome read! I could not put this book down. I didn’t know if Daisy was going to make it through this year in high school. The bullying she suffers would be too much for anyone and the fact that nobody in her family could recognize that she was hurting really made my heart lurch. I was very grateful to see the love and support she had within her family and friends groups and was hoping to see a little more happen with Griffin but I was satisfied with what we got. I would highly recommend this book for all young adults. Even though this is just a book, these scenarios are real and happen to teenagers all around. It would be nice for all youth to see how bullying of any kind could effect someone and what they can turn to, to make themselves feel better, or how they discipline theirselves because of it. I did not catch the other books in the series, this book can be read as a stand alone.

Daisy’s Darkness is a young adult story that has a dark theme. I really appreciate this author’s writing style. It is a story that makes you think throughout the book. You can feel the real struggles of the characters. The characters are complex and fully developed. The complex nature of the character's feelings is fully relatable. This is about Daisy. She has many questions about her daily struggles and the pain she feels. Every day she is fighting to see light through all of her darkness. She is lonely but will she let others comfort her through this difficult point in her life? Will she come out of the darkness? I recommend this story to everyone and would recommend this to preteen and older.

This book had my emotions all over the place.
We follow Daisy through her nightmare of high school issues. We get a glimpse into several things that can affect a teenager on so many levels causing emotional scars.

Daisy’s story really makes you think about things and what kids go through. Daisy had a group of friends that were not popular kids. When her brother starts dating one of the girls that is one of the bullies she deals with it makes things uncomfortable. She starts to close in on herself.

Will her family be able to help her?

Overall this was a great read. All of the characters added a great element to the story. There are some things in the story that could cause triggers for some. If you're looking for a great read that really makes you think about things and makes you reevaluate your own actions this is the book for you. 1-click and get started today. I look forward to reading more from this series and author.

Daisy’s Darkness is the sixth book in the Wheels and Hogs series by D.M. Earl. This is the first book I have read in this series, so it can be read as a standalone, but I think I will go back and read the rest of this series. This book tackled some serious current issues going on today. I think the author did a really good job bringing bullying, eating disorders, mental and physical abuse, depression, cutting and suicide. It was a read that had me reaching for the tissue box from beginning to end. The emotional roller coaster was hard to handle, but the subjects need to be discussed out in the open to those who are lost in the darkness. I would definitely recommend this book, it brings today’s issues to light. It may help both those going through these issues, but it may also show those close to someone what to look for in the darkness.

Daisy's Darkness (Wheels & Hogs #6) by D.M. Earl

This is the first book I've read by Earl. This is part of the Wheels & Hogs Series but can be read as a standalone. This book is amazing and a great start to a new series. I'll be reading the rest soon.

Daisy is your everyday normal teenager. She isn't exactly overweight, but could lose a few pounds. What happens when you're in high school and you don't look perfect? You get bullied. Things are great for her until her older brother starts dating one of the mean girls.

Daisy finds that two newbies have talked about committing suicide and has tried to help them. The quote I chose for Daisy is: “Mom, what’s wrong? Oh God, did something else happen to Mary? Oh God, please don’t tell me Sabrina and her mean girls pushed someone else to do what Mary did? Mom, please talk to me.”

Highly recommended for YA lovers.

This was an interesting and emotional read. It is a book for young adults. It covers issues that some young people deal with and the author covers sensitive topics in a way that is respectful but also informative.

Daisy was a normal girl. Until her life starts being overtaken by a darkness she doesn't understand. The things in her life that brought her joy don't any more. Her family are trying to help but Daisy feels like she can't reach out to them.

Add to all this confusion the fact Daisy is being bullied constantly and forcing herself to purge after every meal and it is a situation that is unhealthy and gets worse as time progresses.

Is there a way through this darkness? Can Daisy fight her demons? Can she reach for the help she desperately needs? Or will the darkness consume her completely.

This book, by far, is one that has made me cry the most. Daisy dealt with so much in her young life. It was just heart breaking the things she endured. She felt she couldn’t go to her family in fear of basically be judged as crazy. She had a circle of friends who, along with her, were being bullied. They had each others backs. It breaks my heart the things that kids who are bullied endured. I felt as if, even though she was mad at first, she felt relieved when her brother found out the secrets she was keeping. It was then she found out her family would support her no matter what. When a friend commits suicide Daisy takes hard. With the help of her immediate and extended family she is able to get the help she needs. I was happy to see that Daisy was able to have a happy ending.

Daisy’s Darkness by D.M. Earl is the 6th book in the Wheels & Hogs series. To be honest, this was the first book by this author that I’ve read. I could tell there was more information to be learned about characters that showed up in this book. However, that didn’t take away from how quickly I was sucked into this story. The beginning is all about how Daisy is seeing things because we are basically reading out of her diary. Many very stressful situations and emotions are making Daisy withdrawal from life. She doesn’t know how to make things better as it is hard to do it alone. But her mental stress is making her not trust her family, immediate and extended family. I even cried at a few points in the book. You can really feel how Daisy is feeling and you want to help her so bad. I hope that this book reaches many who can learn something from it.
