DENTON — For a 15th consecutive year, the North Texas tennis team has been recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for its outstanding team grade point average of 3.582.

All 15 of the years the Mean Green have been led by head coach Sujay Lama and all 15 years UNT has had a 3.2 team G.P.A. or greater. In addition to the team award, UNT tennis student-athletes Sophia Hummel, Nidhi Surapaneni, Lucie Devier, Kexuan Zhou and Louisa Junghanns earned ITA All-Academic individuals honors for having a 3.5+ G.P.A.

"The remote format of UNT's classes posed a unique set of challenges for our student-athletes," said the Mean Green's Senior Academic Counselor Alexis Guess. "The team ultimately prevailed despite the difficulties they faced while working remotely throughout the world. Thanks to coach Lama's support, the team was able to secure a spot on the ITA All-Academic Team."

Academia is a key aspect of the North Texas tennis experience. Mean Green tennis student-athletes add to the rich intellectual community found on our college campus.

Our student-athletes continue to exceed expectations in the classroom and on the court.

In 2021, 1505 Division I women tennis student-athletes around the nation had a 3.5 G.P.A. and 210 women's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction. Compared to the previous year, this year 75 more Division I women tennis student-athletes received the distinction of ITA Scholar-Athlete.
