this book just reaffirmed that David still ain’t shit and that Jimmy is the superior Ferris brother😌

Jimmy needs to beat this bitch up more often, honestly. David was just so pathetic lmao— i would punch this man in the face too, if i ever met him. idk how someone can be domineering and a petulant child at the same time... but David managed it.

to treat a new mother like he did, the mother of his child? gross. his grovelling felt so surface-level and insincere lol. all i got from this book was that David is still selfish af and that Ev deserves better.

and now i wanna reread Jimmy and Lena’s book, the superior Stage Dive couple.

I wanted to love this one, but sadly it was just okay for me. When we get a novella about a favorite couple, I expect some tension or angst, even though they’ve already had their HEA. I was not expecting this. I found the beginning a bit unrealistic which was fine, but the way the couple dealt with it, David especially…. ugh. Not a fan of that. By the end things were oaky, but this wasn’t a win for me.

Between time spent in her coffee shop and traveling with Stage Dive on their world tour things are close to perfect. Then things become complicated as everything changes. The Rhythm Method (A Stage Dive Novella) by Kylie Scott is an all new 1001 Dark Nights standalone story from her Stage Dive series featuring Dav & Ev from book one. I loved getting more of my favorite couple, and the whole crew being back together again. Mal is still hilarious and steals the show often. This was a fabulous rock star romance about family, friendship and love. It's full of humor, emotion, angst, sexy musicians and all the feels! <333

Unfortunately this glimpse into the future of David and Evelyn was not what I wanted to read.

I was never into them as a couple. Their book and Ben’s were my least favourite BUT I thought .. well, this is going to be an epilogue of sorts, so it will filled with great fuzzy feelings.

Not so much. Dave was a man child in my opinion and Evie was way too understanding.

Yes he went to therapy to “sort his feelings” BUT he was a married man to the supposed love of his life and I’m not gonna applaud him for getting his head out of his ass and going to seek help- that’s the bare minimum after the shot he pulled after his son was born.

For a woman to go through what Evie went through- it’s traumatic - and this dude has the AUDACITY to make it about him!?

In my opinion this failed to be one of those stories where we have a well established couple going through a “hiccup”. It was not a freaking hiccup it was a very telling situation which highlighted how much Evie needs to mother her husband because he is a fragile rock star that can’t handle it when life is not perfect.

You ever read a continuation novella and it completely changes how you feel about a couple or the series in general? For me this is that book.

Out of all the Stage Dive couples I have always loved Evelyn and David the best. And I have hoped for a follow up with them for years. Instead we have gotten dozens of Mal and Ann short stories and very little David and Ev.

So I was super excited when I saw that David and Ev were getting a short story of their own. And all I can think after reading is “I waited years for THIS?” Talk about a complete letdown.

First, David was a jerk. Sure the baby wasn’t planned but he goes from reassuring his wife to basically abandoning her and their newborn in order to “get his head on straight”.

Second, we are TOLD about David’s issues we are never shown them. Perhaps if this was a full length or even a short novel we would have gotten that fleshed out more, but as it stands I don’t have any emotional investment on why David is “spiraling”. All I know if he left his wife to deal with their newborn son, the son they didn't plan on, all by herself.

Third, Evelyn was such a doormat. Her husband comes home drunk a few times and then essentially abandons her and their newborn son and instead of getting angry she just…does nothing. Even when David comes back and makes lame excuses for his behavior she just lets it slide. Sorry but no. There’s not even a decent grovel.

Fourth, even a story about David and Ev became more about everybody else. Just look at other reviews and how frequently “Mal steals the show” appears. This is supposed to be David and Evelyn’s journey, I don’t need or want Mal to “steal the show”. Seriously, he gets enough short stories of his own. And I may be in the minority but another thing I disliked was how Lena and Ann are written as these perfect mothers. Instead of letting us see Evelyn find her way this book was basically Evelyn breast feeding a kid with no name while Ann and Lena told her how to be a mother. I liked seeing Jimmy as the sensible one but why couldn’t we have gotten scenes of Jimmy reading David for filth?

Fifth, MARTHA had a say in hiring Evelyn a nanny? Are you kidding me? Reiterating my third point I find it hard to believe that Evelyn wouldn’t have something to say about that. I know when reading it I wanted her to get mad and say a nanny is not a substitute for a father. But nope, Evelyn continued to be a doormat.

Ms. Scott introduced a new nanny character so I am sure there will be future short stories. But I am still so bummed about how this one let me down. I used to re-read Lick all the time and now I’m just meh when thinking about it and I really have no desire to read these characters ever again.

We're back with all our darlings in the Stage Dive World!
This time it's Evelyn and David again.
Ev has strict plans about their life. They will try for a baby in five years and then they will buy a house and everything will be perfect.
Yup. You know what happens when people make plans....

That was adorable!
I just love those little Stage Dive moments we get from Kylie. Of course our Mal steals the show again. He's the best thing about any and all Stage Dive books - sorry other guys and girls, but Mal is the greatest. Idiot. Mostly. But still - I just adore him.
I just copied these ↑ last few lines from my previous reviews - because it's still the truth! Mal was again the not-so-secret star in this novella! He's just adorable and silly and ridiculous and we just love him!

I don't know if I should find this little story a bit ridiculous or just funny and adorable. It was a bit of everything. But I still loved reading it and seeing all those people again.

Can't wait for the next novella!

RHYTHM METHOD was an adorable and sweet and sad and just perfect little addition to this amazing Rock Star Series!

David and Evelyn didn’t have a conventional wedding day so it only makes sense for their unplanned pregnancy to turn out the way it does. It’s so them :) Let’s back up the bus a bit though…

David and Evelyn have been married for seven years now and they have been the most incredible years of their lives. They still have lots of things they want to do before they think about having a family but the universe has other plans for them.

I’m sure most parents will be able to relate to the reality of pregnancy and how much that and having a baby can change your life. To be honest I was a bit disappointed in David, he was a bit of a dick and I wasn’t expecting that from him. Luckily Evelyn has all the support of the gorgeous Stage Dive wives/girls who all step up to help.

Everyone from the stage dive family is back in this novella. And surprise, surprise Mal’s cameo moments completely steal every scene he is in. Having said that, he is kind of a superhero in this story so he really does deserve all the attention I’m giving him.

This is the fourth time we have been treated to a Dark Nights dip back into the Stage Dive series and it was awesome!

Seven years after waking up in Vegas married Evelyn and David are still going strong, the only thing that can rival their surprise wedding is their surprise pregnancy!

I loved revisiting the members Stage Dive and seeing how things are currently rocking and rolling in their lives. This book was a lot of fun to read, Mal of course stole the show. I love his quick whit and sense of humor.

Kylie Scott did a wonderful job with giving us a novella that packed an emotional punch that I'm sure many weren't ready for, I know I wasn't. David actually had to win me back in this book because well, he was knocked down a few pegs with a couple of things that happened but in the end my love for all the members of Stage Dive is still strong.

If you read the Stage Dive Series I would highly recommend this book to you and if you haven't I would recommend this book to you as well but it will contain spoilers as you will know each of the couples that are together, but it can definitely be read as a standalone if that is the way you wish to read it.

Happy Reading!!!

3.5- 4 David and Evelyn Stars

Seven years on from where Lick ended , David and Evelyn are happily married and David is still touring the world being a successful rock star with his band. A surprise baby throws them for a loop and suddenly, everything that felt secure and certain is turned upside down.

I was really surprised at David's reaction, it made for good angst, but still I was surprised. I thought Ev forgave him pretty quickly , but this is quick novella and also he did give a very heartfelt speech.

Great to catch up with the other characters from the series. It's always good to go back into a book world that you love.

HEA? Yes
Cheating? No

What a huge let down. I was so disappointed in David's behavior. I just couldn't believe what Kylie did to our Hero. I usually reread the series every month or two but I am so upset by this huge change in David that I haven't been able to go back for a reread in months. I'm afraid I am done with this series and that breaks my heart. If there was ever any one book hero I could count on it was Dave and his love for Evie. No More! He has been ruined forever in my eyes.

What I Liked: This was fine. The actual surprise pregnancy aspect took me by surprise, and I thought that was an interesting twist, and there were other aspects of this I liked: Jimmy (my favourite hero from the original series) being the sensible one, and the focus on friendships between women and their support towards Evelyn. It was also quite easy to read.
What I Didn’t: Most of this was just very bland, for me. It wasn’t my favourite example of an epilogue novella for a series. The hero, David, acted very unpleasantly for a lot of it and that soured the story overall. I also still really dislike Mal’s character - I know that I’m in the minority on that front, but I find him very irritating and not very funny.
Overall: I don’t know - I bought this because I thought it would be cuter and I wanted to see glimpses of the other characters in the series, mainly Jimmy and Lena, but I just ended up feeling a bit disappointed. They were never my favourite couple in the series, so maybe it was on me for buying this despite that. But for what it was, it was okay.
Would I Recommend It?: I think if you’re a fan of the original novels, there’s probably a lot here you could enjoy.
Would I Read Something By The Author Again?: Yes, but not based off this book.

Not my favourite I'm afraid.

David was a dick and then when he did screw his head back on, took over in all the life decisions and kind of, sort of, checked with Ev - but basically steamrollered her into decisions without discussing them as a couple.

It's well written in such that during their moments of conflict it brought back all of what I experienced as a first time mum clashing with her partner. But it was missing the humour that Kylie's books normally have in spades and I'm afraid for me, even Mal couldn't make me love it.

OUT NOW!!

"Life without a plan was not smooth sailing..."

I have loved the Stage Dive series and I can't stop picking up every crump that Kylie Scott is throwing my way with these small novellas...
David and Evelyn's story back in Lick was unexpectendly delicious and I loved seeing how things between them are developing as the years are passing by...
These two had a rough start, but they are so devoted to each other and so in love...
They are content as they are and they don't need anything to mess up with their serene life...
But an unexpected pregnancy is about to make a big mess of their beautiful lives. Or not???

"Parenthood was no joke."

As I was reading this story, I could totally relate with this couple in so many levels...
The unknown of a pregnancy is a big issue full of stressful moments, especially as it came on the Ferris family was totally wild and hard to be accepted....
David and Evelyn found themselves in a situation that they didn't want and that they didn't think that they needed at the moment and things got out of track for a while...
I loved seeing them like that!!! They were raw and real!!!
Who wouldn't have his/her doubts when a baby would come along, unexpectendly or not???

"There was a wall between us now. One I didn't know how to begin to take down."

This was a lovely addition to this series, even if it was a small one...
I love getting glimpses on these guys throughout the years...
I'm always enjoying Mal's silliness and the dynamic that these eight have between them...
I'm always down for another one taste, small or big I don't really care!!!
I love my Stage Dive crew sooo much, even though I have many years that I've firstly read their stories!!!

"We were two halves of a whole and always would be."

When I found out there is a novella about Ev & David, I was all in. If you don't know who Ev & David are: they are the first couple we meet in the Stage Dive books - Lick. Ev is in Vegas for her 21st birthday party and she wakes up after a night of partying to find out she's married to a rock star.

In The Rhythm Method Ev has just had her 28th birthday. She and David are enjoying both married and band life. Until one day she gives birth to a healthy baby - she thought she was having period pains and had no clue she was even pregnant. Neither one of them knew she was pregnant. After the shock wears off Ev & David have to figure out how to handle being parents. They must figure out what is their new norm for both family and band life.

You just can't pass up a good Stage Dive story especially one with David.

The band's been touring like crazy so all the families have been spending a lot of time with them.

One particular night, Evelyn is in a lot of pain and who comes to the rescue? You'd never believe me but he was amazing as always.

So, the craziest thing happened and everything changes. It was interesting to see how everyone reacted but I was saddened by David's reaction...WTH??!!

Luckily, circumstances get worked out and everything ends well. It was nice being back in this world and getting caught up.

Oh how I love Mal Ericson and yes, this is a book about David and Eve, but it wouldn’t be a Stage Dive book without Mal being, well Mal. However, we see a different side of Mal in this book, sure he’s still his crackpot self always quick witted, always a bit off center, but we got to see him taking charge, keeping things calm, and helping in a way he probably never figured. I loved this story not only because of Mal but because it explores how parenthood changes a couple both individually and as a couple. There were was light and fun moments in this story, but it also tackled some serious subjects as well. David and Eve had a plan for their lives together and 7 years after their impetuous wedding in Las Vegas, they are doing well. Still very much in love and still very much with a plan to start a family in five years or so, Eve’s coffee shop is doing well and she loves her business and Stage Dive is still selling out stadiums and touring regularly so a surprise baby wasn’t quite what they planned. Ev was overwhelmed with being a mom, the hormone imbalance, the lack of sleep and the last thing she needed was David not being there for her. I get that he was also overwhelmed, but the way he went about correcting his actions IMHO did not paint him in a good light. I feel the Evelyn let him off the hook way too easy and I get that she just wanted some normalcy back in their lives, but she deserved a better apology and a man who didn’t give up when life got hard. I loved seeing the rest of the band members with their families and seeing how they’ve changed (Jimmy) and how they’ve not (Mal) and listening to the women discuss how parenthood changed their lives and their men. I absolutely loved being back in the Stage Dive world, loved the big dose of Mal especially, and thrilled there’s a new baby for the Stage Dive part deux band (lol).

3.5 stars. The Rhythm Method is a novella set in the Stage Dive world. It focuses on David and Ev, from the book Lick, whose worlds are rocked by a suprise birth, like something right out of the tv show "I didn't know I was pregnant". Now they find themselves parents completely unexpectedly and, even though they did want to be parents someday, the reality of it really shakes up their lives.

I love David and Ev as a couple and loved them in their own book, as well as the other books in the series. But I really hated the conflict and some of the behavior between them in this book. It seemed immature and made me doubt their love somewhat, especially David's behavior and treatment of Ev. Also, while I thought the suprise pregnancy aspect was interesting and fun, I didn't find the baby or birth details realistically written at all. Still, I liked the book in general and enjoyed being back in the Stage Dive world with the other characters I love. However, I did feel like it lacked some of the love and nostalgia I expected to find. However, I will continue to be a fan of this series and look forward to what Kylie Scott comes up with next.

3.5 STARS

David and Evelyn are planners except that quickie wedding way back when. When their perfectly crafted plan for the future gets blown apart they are surprised in a way they never saw coming.

I absolutely loved getting a glimpse of all of the guys and their families especially Mal where he always brings a smile to my face. What I wasn't a fan of was how David responded and acted after the surprise. He acted like he was the only one that's life was being upended. And Evelyn just went along with all his decisions so easily. It didn't paint David in a good light. I physically cringed while reading.

I can honestly say this wasn't a favorite Stage Dive book. The writing was good as always with Kylie Scott but David's character just made for an eh read.

When you love a series as much as I loved the Stage Dave series, novellas like this makes your day 🤩

The Rhythm Method is about Evelyn and David.
After seven years together, their relationship is severely tested by a surprise pregnancy.

Despite its shortness, the Rhythm Method is a bumpy ride with sweet moments, and difficult ones. But also funny times, especially thanks to Mal 🤣

Once again Kylie Scott show us how strong is the bond between the Stage Dave's family and I loved it 😍

And i'm looking forward for the next one!!

2.5 stars. It was nice visiting with the MCs from the Stage Dive series and I liked how the author focused more on the relationships between all the women without excluding the men. However, I can't say I miss seeing Ben as he was my least favourite hero of the series. (Sorry.)

It has been almost ten years since I first read the first book Lick, and I see that my tastes have changed and in all likelihood (hopefully) matured. I found that the writing style was no longer for me; the singular first person pov of Evie was didactic and kind of one note. I liked seeing Mal, Jimmy, and the ladies through Evie's eyes, but I really think that for such a short work, we really needed to hear from Dave too. The fact that after seven years of marriage, Dave is still doing the same stuff that he did in the first book kind of makes me worried for their HEA. Overall though, I'd have to say that Kylie Scott did portray Dave and Evie's marriage quite realistically. People aren't perfect and people can change. But doing the same stuff after seven years? I just don't know.

not the usual

I’ve liked the rest of the stage dive books but this one just didn’t do it for me. I would have rather not had this at all and just left it as the books had ended.

Don’t want to post spoilers but the situation that happened was taken way too lightly and forgotten about too easily.
