Kalidou Koulibaly and Matteo Politano pounced on Juventus errors to turn the game around after Alvaro Morata’s early strike, putting Napoli eight points clear of the Bianconeri.

This was an early Scudetto showdown, but Juve missed Paulo Dybala, Alex Sandro, Juan Cuadrado, Danilo and Rodrigo Bentancur due to international duty in South America, with Federico Chiesa, Arthur and Kaio Jorge injured, so had to completely revamp the line-up that picked up one point from the opening two rounds. The Partenopei were without Diego Demme, Stanislav Lobotka, Dries Mertens and Faouzi Ghoulam, with Piotr Zielinski only ready for the bench, so ex-Fulham player Andre-Frank Anguissa was thrown straight in for his debut. Victor Osimhen was available after his two-match ban was halved on appeal.

It was an incredibly aggressive start from the hosts, Matteo Politano nodding a Lorenzo Insigne cross over in the opening minute and a series of corners.

However, Alvaro Morata caught Kostas Manolas in possession near the corner flag after an awkward bobble and beat David Ospina from a tight angle with a splendid finish.

Manuel Locatelli needed a block on Politano, then Mattia De Sciglio made a decisive tackle on Insigne, but the Napoli captain almost gifted a goal with a poor back-pass that Dejan Kulusevski pounced on, Ospina coming to his rescue.

Adam Ounas came on for the restart and Osimhen had a swing and miss on the ball from a corner, but Napoli did get back on level terms.

Wojciech Szczesny seemed surprised by the trademark Insigne right-foot curler and just about got his hands to it, only pushing the ball a couple of yards, so Politano scored on the rebound from the tightest of angles.

Weston McKennie’s snapshot skimmed the far post and Insigne tested Szczesny again, while Mario Rui failed to finish off a good passing move.

Insigne went off with a muscular issue and Szczesny got a fingertip to the Fabian Ruiz screamer on the half-volley after a free kick had been cleared to the D.

Napoli were dominating the second half and took a deserved lead in chaotic circumstances. The corner sailed over Adrien Rabiot, Moise Kean did get his head to it, but turned the ball towards his own goal, where Szczesny could only fingertip it into the path of Koulibaly from a yard.

  1. I think Juve need to give serious consideration to Allegri’s position. Long term his damage could be severe. Even this early his decisions are questionable…
    1) dropping the Euro’s and last seasons top scorer in the first game…that I believe lead to Ronaldo wanting out which is why it happens it happened so fast.
    2) bringing off Chiesa after 60 mins in the last game, who was the only Juve player that carries any threat.
    3) playing Danilo as a holding midfield playmaker in game #2

I’d say to get rid of him and look at someone like Zidane or even Conte.

  2. That’s what’s happened to you when were not fair to Pirlo by firing. He did Wonder despite all the problems and for half a season with no preparations and did still did really well. You wanted an old fart coach who want an old far players will get you no where.

  3. @tryst .. those would be 2 good choices but Conte is too much a narcissistic loose canon and I doubt Zidane comes here in the current state.

    Nedved gotta go. Yes
