An unpauseable new romance from New York Times bestselling, Audie Award winning author Kylie Scott!

When Anna wakes up from a coma after a car crash, she discovers life has gone on without her. Her husband has been unfaithful—with her best friend—and she’s been long since replaced at work. While her old life is a distant memory, her new life feels like an empty shell. Then she meets the stranger who saved her life during the crash, and he changes everything.

Leif Larsen—tattooist, joker, and player—has his own scars thanks to the crash that put Anna in a coma. Helping her move on from her failed marriage, and create a new life, sounds like a perfect distraction. So when he needs a new roommate, he invites Anna to begin her new life with him.

Although their lives may have been put on pause, together they just might find a way to heal.

As some of you know, I’ve been missing on here for the past couple of months because reading was the last thing I could have managed to do for some reason.
It’s all good though, I did manage to watch more tv shows and movies than I did in the past 2 years accumulated.

And the great news is that I’ve slowly gotten back to it. And it all started with this book. I just knew that a Kylie Scott book would be the best thing for me. And as luck would have it, she did have 2 releases (this one was released on audio only back in April - but I only use audiobooks for anything that is not romance - hence the wait for the ebook) during my slump which means I could indulge, now that I was getting my mojo back.

Now that I got the PSA out of the way, let me get into this book and the actual review.

First thing I’ll say, (in true me fashion- because even when I’m being positive I frame it in a negative way) is that I don’t think many people will find this memorable or great or you know - 4/5 stars worthy. Why? Because it doesn’t do anything great. There’s no big, amazing plot that will stick with me for years to come, there’s no unique characters and there’s not even real drama, or angst to try to amp up the very simple plot I already mentioned.

BUT I wouldn’t rate a book this high if it was just average. So everything I said above doesn’t make it average, it just makes it sweet, true, heartfelt, real. It was a very smooth journey and it felt authentic both in the characterisations of the people involved as well as the way the story evolved.

I liked Leif so much and Anna too. I did see a pattern in the way the female MC was described though.
If you read Repeat the first book in the series, then you know Clem and her self deprecating attitude combined with the complete personality makeover she got (which is what made me give a 4 instead of a 5 star to that story) I don’t like it when FMC’s are characterised as being somehow wrong in the way they naturally are. I’m all for change and improvement but in my opinion Clem was okay just the way she was and didn’t need to change to fit Ed and his group.
But I’m deviating from talking about Anna, the female MC here. We did not have a Clem 2.0 here but there were some of those vibes especially in the beginning, luckily Anna was very self assured and strong in her opinions and her wants. She was assertive and confident and nobody could tell her what to be or do. I loved that.

I have a complaint though. I still don’t know how to picture Anna. While we got a lot of descriptive passages about Leif and how he looks and his mannerisms, I couldn’t tell you how Anna looks. I’m sure at some point it was mentioned that she has brown hair, but I don’t know if I missed it or if it just wasn’t mentioned but I don’t know the colour of her eyes, or her body type, (she was short I think- because she kept saying how tall Leif was) .
I’m mentioning this because I see a pattern with heroines not being properly described as I’ve already read Fake by Scott as well. I don’t know if this is intentional, but it’s not my thing. I’m not one of those readers who needs to identify to the point where I don’t need to know how someone looks. I like detailed descriptions. Whenever I read, the characters are always up and about in my imagination doing the stuff that I read, so being a visual reader (if that’s a thing) I need a lot of details.

I don't know where my recent urge to re-read Kylie Scott's Lead came from, but after finishing it yet again, I realized I hadn't read any Scott since finishing Repeat (Larsen Bros #1, my review for which you can find HERE) in 2020. This led to a hunt and me finding out there was a book two featuring the younger brother of book one's here, who was also in book one.

But I digress.

I didn't enjoy this as much as I enjoyed Repeat, but it was pretty close. I love scorned spouses and forced proximity. And this even had a coma, FFS. So fun.

4.5 Just You and Me Stars ⭐

I can't remember the last time I read a book where both characters actually have their shit together. Not only was it refreshing and delightful, it was impressive considering how much Anna and Leif went through before reconnecting.

I don’t feel like a hell of a lot of anything. A blank piece of paper waiting for a new story to be written. The beginning of something with no future in sight. That’s what it feels like to be me.

After being involved in a hit and run car accident, Anna has spent the last 7 months in a coma. When she finally wakes up, not only has she lost months off her life, but also her marriage. Coming to terms with what's happened is huge. And finding the man who stood by her side through the ordeal will be her best chance at recovery yet.

Leif Larsen has his own burdens to shoulder. A psycho ex plus emotional trauma caused from the same accident as Anna, has also been a huge struggle. But when months later Anna seeks him out, they strike up an amazing friendship. One that eventually leads to them becoming roommates.

“I have a feeling this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.”

I take a deep breath. “Leif. Thank you. That’s very kind of you. But I don’t need your pity. I—”

“It’s the resting bitch face that does it for me,” he carries on, as if I hadn’t said a word.

Two people open to hanging out and discussing their feelings. They create a home that's a safe space where no topic is off limits. A place where they can be themselves. A kind of couples therapy without being a couple and a remarkable friendship that naturally evolves into more.

“You’re interested in me?” And I sound so small and fragile. I hate it, but I can’t help it.

“Have I not been chasing your gorgeous ass around for months now?”

I frown. “Have you?”

His brows rise. “Well, I have for me.”

“Huh.”

“Are you coming over here or what?” he asks. “I feel like we need to hug it out. And stuff.”

“And stuff?”

He tips his chin. “C’mon, Anna. Take a chance. I won’t let you fall.”

Leif was top notch. Gorgeous, charismatic, sensitive and an absolute dream. A man that gave up his time to read to a woman in a coma, and opened his home to provide Anna a fresh start. As for Anna, all the punches life dealt wasn't enough to break her spirit. Watching these two together was beautiful. This book reminded me of the goodness in humanity. Just a freaking pleasure to read. ❤️🖤

This audiobook was so great! I remember listening to and loving Kylie Scott's Repeat and I was excited to get more from that world. Leif is Ed's brother and the hero of our story. Anna is our heroine who gets into a car accident and is on a coma for months. When she wakes up her life has completely changed. She found out her husband wasn't faithful to her, and things are bad all around. Then she meets Leif, another innocent bystander from the accident and they become fast friends.

I adore a good friends to lovers story. Anna and Leif were a bit of an opposites attract story but I loved them together. My favorite part of this story was that Anna started standing up for herself and became stronger. This audiobook was narrated by Andi Arndt and she did a fantastic job as always. A wonderful audiobook for romance lovers!

Pause is the second book in the Larsen Brothers Series. If you read Repeat, then you will remember Leif Larsen. Leif is a tattoo artist who lives life to the fullest. When he meets Anna, she is in danger and need of assistance. Leif rescues Anna, and she is left in a coma. When she wakes up, her entire world has shifted, and Anna is left to rediscover the world around her. Anna reconnects with Leif, and an easy friendship begins. Although Anna is in no shape to move on romantically from her broken marriage, she cannot help but be drawn into all things, Leif Larsen.

"I'm right here."
Told in dual POV, Pause is practically perfect in every way! I adore Kylie Scott's writing, and this series is another stunning display of her creative mind at work. Both of the Larsen Brothers have been through a lot, and the women in their life are a perfect complement. The romance is swoon-worthy, and the passion is smoking hot!
"If this is the man I get to kiss for the rest of my life, hot and heavy or soft and sweet, I'll be happy indeed."
Overall, Pause will appeal to readers who enjoy a complex story of overcoming loss and finding joy again. Although each book in this series can be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend reading the series from the beginning so that you can enjoy every single nuance of this world! I have always been a fan of Kylie Scott, and this series certainly does not disappoint!

This had several elements that made it stand out but ultimately it felt a little undeveloped.

The heroine wakes up after a seven month coma to find out that her husband and her best friend had an affair. Unlike too many heroines, she’s fed up and done hearing how hard her coma was on him. She’s gone from a little too perfect to a crankier version of her previous self that’s trying to adjust to a new reality. Her reactions to her husband and her ex-best friend are just what a lot of readers want to see in a heroine.

The hero is a doll. Handsome, tatted and very there for the heroine. I felt he was in love with her all along and just waiting for her to catch up, but there was a lack of development in his presence at her accident and his being there for her during her coma and later.

Still all in all a fun read.

TITLE: PAUSE
AUTHOR: Kylie Scott
SERIES: Standalone (connected to REPEAT)
RELEASE DATE: April 13, 2021
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
TROPES: Friends-to-Lovers, Cheating Husband
NARRATORS: Andi Arndt
LENGTH: 6 hrs and 17 mins
RATING: 4 Stars
CLIFFHANGER: No

This was a very enjoyable friends-to-lovers romance. Man, can you imagine being in a coma after a car accident, waking up ten months later only to find out that your asshole of a husband cheated on you with your best friend while you were out?

I adored Leif who was everything that is good and right in this world. Anna needed a good friend in her life before she could have a relationship again. Leif was smart enough to realize that. I was absolutely on board with their relationship and thought that they complemented one another. With Anna's growing independence from her husband she started to develop a backbone and I liked that Leif didn't have anything to do with her empowerment. She was a strong woman in her own right and her ex-husband and former "best" friend didn't stand a chance.
This book is short and I think it would have benefited from a little more action and depth when it came to Anna's accident. All we know is that it was a hit and run, there isn't much speculating or even talk about the guy who caused the accident. So I felt that the resolution came a little bit out of a the blue.

As always Andi Arndt does an amazing job breathing life into all characters. She's an extraordinary talent and I'll always go back her works. I haven't read REPEAT but I'll fix that stat! If you like sweet, funny, low angst stories PAUSE is a great choice. Kylie Scott's writing style is so crisp and easy to read, which makes this a fast read!

PAUSE is a complete standalone but connected to Repeat.

Ready to hit play and move forward...

When your whole world changes, is it better to try and go back to the way thing were or move forward to a better future? In Pause we meet Anna after she survived a horrific accident that left her in a coma for months. Unfortunately, on awakening, she finds out that her husband cheated ... with one of her best friends. This makes Anna pause, reassess everything from her previous life, and decide on what will truly make her happy. The first thing she definitely wants to keep in her life, is her new friend, Leif.

I loved Leif's character and there were more than a few times he cracked me up. Being injured in the same accident brought him into close contact with Anna. Visiting her in hospital and sitting by her bed and reading when she was completely unaware, showed the kind of person he was. My favourite part was his 'hug it out' mentality. You're feeling down ... 'hug it out'. You're feeling great ... 'hug it out'. It was even better that Leif knew that jumping into a relationship with Anna was not in their best interest, so offered friendship first. While at first, I was a bit devastated for shoving the friendship card at Anna, deep down I knew she wasn't ready for a real relationship. It was all good in the end.

While Pause was good, unfortunately it wasn't as good as Repeat for me. I didn't have the same connection with the characters and I thought that the suspense portion was a bit of a let down. Anna's ex was an absolute DOUCHEWAFFLE and her friend was an absolute COW! I didn't like the idea that Anna could have been in any ways like them.

Andi Arndt does a great job of bringing this story to life and I really loved that it came out as an Audio first.

I'm a Kylie Scott fan and I will definitely be reading or listening to more of her stories in the future.

First things first..... Can we all just take a minute and talk about how fucking amazing Andi Arndt is as a narrator.

That chick can narrate a fucking history book and I will devour it (note, I hated history with a passion and slept though most of that class). Seriously, her male voice is hotter than most actual guys voices.

Next, let me tell you what would happen if I woke up from a 7 month coma only to find out that my husband fucked my best friend.

1. I would cut off his dick and slap that bitch of a best friend with it.
2. I would take him to the fucking cleaners in our divorce.
3. I would find the first tattooed hot guy and do dirty, awful things with him regularly.

That is not what Anna did, but she also seems to be much more rational and emotionally stable than me.

She did not harm said piece of shit husband or back stabbing friend in any way. She did take 3 months to process her emotions and figure out her next step like a normal adult would do.

She did find a hot tattooed guy, but she became friends with him and then roommates - without sleeping with him. And he just happened to be the guy that saved her life during the car crash that put her in a coma.

These two had the best relationship. They were both scarred from the accident and the events following. They both wanted each other, but Leif knew that Anna needed time before jumping into bed (even if she didn't realize it).

Their chemistry was there from the start. This was a great slow-burn, friends to lovers read. Yes you read that right, I actually enjoyed not only a contemporary romance where no one got kidnapped, but a SLOW BURN! That says a lot right there about this book.

Seriously, if you are an audio-junkie like me definitely get this book. Its included in the Audible Plus Package.

It has been a while since I read Miss Scott books. Pause is good novella. The story is similar to Repeat.

I do like the easy banter between Anna and Leif ( I love the name too). Their Twilight obsession is also cute. Pause is sow burn romance but with a short length. Not so much drama.

Any kind of book that got me grinning like a dork is worth a 5 stars in my opinion.

I mean, come on. It's Kylie Scott. She can write some of the best banters.

On the curve of one ass cheek, he gives me a kiss. “Leif, this is very strange. What are you up to back there?”
“We’ve now progressed to the ass-kissing apology stage of things.”

In this one, it featured the brother of the last book's hero, Leif. He was in accident with our heroine. An accident which left her in a coma for 6 months. After which she awoken to cheating husband, friend's betrayal and lost of a job.

What I love about this book, aside from the banter, is the communication we have between these two main characters. No stupid needless misunderstanding. Things were always upfront with these two people. See authors? You can still make a compelling storytelling without any added complications and misunderstanding.

“Leif,” I say, pausing to take a breath. “You’re offering yourself up here like some game of chance. The only thing is, when I lose at this game it’s not only humiliating, but it hurts.”

Oh and the progression of their relationship from strangers to friends to roommates to lovers? Just perfect.

“C’mon, Anna. Take a chance. I won’t let you fall.”

P.s. Am I the only one who thinks that the ex-husband's story would make an excellent book? I don't know why I need that angst in my life, but I kinda want to know his side of the story with the best friend.

I liked this one much more than book 1. Poor Anna was in a car accident 9 months ago and wakes up to her whole world being changed. Her husband and best friend began an affair while she was in a coma and her life imploded.

Leif was riding his motorcycle and got clipped by a car and was there to hold Anna's hand while she was cut from her car. They have a connection and Anna wants to talk to thank him for his help and both see they have an obvious connection.

The author didn't cut corners on Anna's recovery. She spent months in therapy learning how to walk again and still struggles. Leif has had a rough year after the events of book 1. The H/h are both wounded souls trying to find their way back. Leif blames himself for the events in book 1 and has been changed by the accident as well.

Anna is going through a divorce and is tired of living with her parents so Leif suggests they move in together as roommates. (This annoyed me a bit because they were obviously attracted to each other, so this just spells disaster. Leif friend-zoned Anna after she drunkenly tried to kiss him and she was humiliated but got over it. But she's still attracted.)

It was great to see Anna grow and learn to stand up for herself. And Leif was just an all-around good guy (except for the times when he got on my nerves) who would do anything for Anna. This was a sweet romance with two people who deserved all the happiness they could get.

3 stars instead of 4 because of my own safety peeves. These are *me* things that always bother me, you may not mind them at all.

Charming and lovely... the story of Anna and Leif really warmed my heart and made for an incredibly entertaining read.

I read it as a mix of audio and e-ARC and I was captivated by the unlikely love story between 2 survivors of the same bad accident. The narrator is fantastic.

The story is told from Anna's POV. She wakes up from a 7 months comma to find her perfect life was not so perfect after all. Her husband cheated on her with one of her best friends. But she learns of Leif, the other accident survivor that felt oddly connected to her after the accident and visited her in the hospital and read to her for hours on end.

After her divorce, they end up roommates. Their interactions are witty and full of sarcastic humor, just how I like them best. The subject of this novella length book could have been very angsty and heavy and yet, the author made the choice of focusing on the "moving on" part.
Low angst, some steamy scenes, lots of laugh out loud moments... this was a fantastic rom-com that I enjoyed so so much.

4 Meant To Be Stars
* * * * Spoiler Free
This book takes an idea that would be so out of the realm of every day and creates an insightful, self-realization journey for two people who in their prior lives would never connect. I think this has so much for us to see and learn from with the method is easy to understand, and the importance of seeing who you are and accepting it.

Anna and Leif literally run into each other.
She is hit and her car hits Lief's bike and him. They are taken to the same hospital and over months Anna lays in a coma. It is during this time, her family stays by her bedside. Lief was drawn to this woman he saw locked in a car, was unable to rescue her, and decides to sit every night and read to her.

Anna wakes after many months, time slipped away and with it her marriage. Betrayal happened and cannot and should not be forgiven. Anna is no longer employed, no longer has the friends she thought she did, and her outlook on everything has changed.

Anna decides to go and thank the man she heard about, the man who read to her while she was in the coma, a man who turns out to be nothing like the one she had been married to.

Lief is a tattoo artist, charming, friendly, and hang loose. He is all man and looks are his friends. He is someone any woman would love to know, not only because of his demeanor but because he is just this really cool guy.

When Anna meets Lief, he is careful with her yet also real. They both bond with the shared experiences they have had, they both have adjustments to make mentally and physically. A friendship of sorts develops first and then it becomes so much more.

This has all the elements of a Kylie Scott book, engaging characters, sexy times, and heart.

Kylie Scott decided to use a traumatic experience and hold it up as a mirror for the readers...Are we living our best lives today...are we doing all we could with what we have or maybe we should step out of our self-imposed boxes and do something out of the ordinary.

Well Done.

This was a really good listen, 🎧and not just because Kylie Scott wrote it and Andi Arndt was the narrator, which in my experience, is always a good combination, no that wasn't the only reason.

After reading repeat book 1, Leif as a character wasn't really winning any points for me in the first book. Which is probably why it took me so long to listen to Pause. That being said I found his character had grown so much after what had occurred in book 1 and again after his motorcycle accident, he was in with Anna I found him to be extremely likeable in pause, and couldn't wait to see what happened with him an Anna who I liked from the very beginning.

As always Kylie Scott has a real knack for drawing you in right from the very beginning in her books, so you won't have to wait long to have your interest pique.

Happy Listening🎧🎼🎵🎶🎧📻🔊🎶🎼🎧

Friends with benefits? Nah, that never works ....

What will happen with Anna + Leif?

Adorable.

This was a really cute and funny and sexy and heartbreaking little romance.
I really enjoyed reading this!
I don't know what it is with Kylie's books. I noticed that in REPEAT too and in others too if I remember correctly. You start reading and you're right in the middle of the story. I don't know why I think this is so weird. I love it when I don't get unnecessary drama and redundant words and pages. But I would like a tiny little bit of a prologue or maybe even just a little:
It was a dark and stormy night and only one window at the hospital was lit.
Know what I mean? Just a little bit intro before we start. Instead we immediately start with Anna waking up and talking.
Anyway. That's just me and my weird reading fetishes.
I really liked this story. Leif is amazing and Anna is adorable!
Perfect match.

PAUSE was an adorable and funny love story! Run to your nearest amazon for your own Leif - this one is MINE!

An enjoyable read....but it pales in comparison for me to the previous book "Repeat" which I absolutely loved and have now read many times.
It was a good read but not great!!! or maybe I am just so enamored with Clem and Ed's story that I found this one to be a little lacking somehow.

I went blindly into this read via audio listen and was pleasantly surprised by this book! Pause is an audible exclusive book that is told from only the main heroine perspective.

Format 🎧: audiobook listen. This audiobook was 10 chapters and included a prologue & epilogue. It was 6 hrs & 17 minutes and can be listened to in 1-2 sittings. This book was narrated by the amazing Andi Arndt and as always I enjoyed the narration.

This audiobook contains:
⏸ Strangers tied together due to a tragic event ⇒ friends/roommates w/ benefits ⇒ lovers

Tropes: Friends-to-lovers & infidelity (e.g., husband cheats on wife)

STORY PLOT
↳ Leif (H) meets Anna (h) under terrible circumstances, that situation being, a car accident that left both of them injured. Leif having a compound fracture and Anna in a coma for several months. When she wakes up, her entire world has shifted. She found out that her husband cheated on her with her best friend/employer. To try to put her life back together, Anna reconnects with Leif, and they form a friendship and eventually become roommates. Although Anna is in no shape to move on romantically since her marriage fell apart, she cannot help but be drawn to Leif. As they become closer, the big question becomes the forefront of their relationship: “what would be so bad about being with each other?”

MAIN CHARACTERS

👩❣️ Anna (h) ❣️👩

Main heroine (h) who is 26-years-old, recently came out of a coma, in the process of a divorce, trying to rebuild her life post the accident

↠ In the beginning of the story, Anna was very timid. That being said, Ryan and those in her friends group (minus Breyer) walked all over her. As she begins to find her place in the world again, she gradually becomes stronger and has a bigger backbone when dealing with ex-drama. Overall, I liked how she developed as an individual character!

👨💉 Leif (H) 💉👨

Main hero (H), tattooist in his early 30’s, Ed’s brother, easy going, funny, averted to dating because of the previous girl he dated

↠ I would say Leif is my second favorite main hero right after Jimmy from Lead (Stage Dive series). He was supportive, caring, and understanding that Anna needed time to couple with the huge changes in her life before pursuing a relationship. Overall, I generally liked Leif as a main hero.

OM DRAMA

🚫🗑 The cheating prick aka Ryan 🗑🚫
●▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬๑⇩⇩๑▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬●
•» Just a picture of Ryan and Celine together since Anna divorced him«•

description
●▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬๑⇧⇧๑▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬●

Anna, girl, you went too easy on Ryan! He cheated on you with your best friend while you were in a coma. That is grounds for several things:
(1) Channeling Lorena Bobbitt- maybe - but seriously some harm or a curse on him
(2) TAKING HIM TO THE CLEANERS IN THE DIVORCE
(3) Revenge (preferably with that hot tattooist who rescued you)

Ryan was just trash and that douche canoe deserved the worst.

✧ FAVORITE MOMENTS ✧

↠ ✦ My profession getting a mention in the book: ✦ After Anna’s accident, she is continuing rehabilitation with occupational therapy (OT). Usually, if a character is injured and going to rehab, the umbrella term of rehabilitation is used in the book or it is only PT. That being said, I am just super happy seeing it mentioned!

↠ ✦ Leif and Anna moving in together: ✦ It wasn’t for the reason of ‘this relationship was a fast paced love,’ rather it was a way to help one another financially for the time being. Over this time, they grew closer and worked through their emotional turmoil together. The gradual friends who are roommates that eventually become lovers was overall developed well!

↠ ✦ Divorce Party:I do • I did • I’m free! Yessss, Anna deserved to throw herself that party after being married to that selfish prick. I was so here for the celebration of those freshly signed divorce papers

description

description

↠ ✦ Epilogue: ✦ Anna (h) broke the unspoken rule that in a heterosexual relationship a male has to propose to a female. It was refreshing and fun to see Anna propose to Leif (H). It was a cute moment and way to end the book.

Romantic Relationship Development: For (60%) of the book, they were in a flirty friends mode/slow build up ➳ (30%) Situationship that neither of them could label their relationship ➳ last (10%) they were together and getting a beautiful HEA. Both were handling physical and emotional scars and understood they needed to handle them before moving on with each other. Their relationship overall was very cute and wholesome.

Character Development: Anna > Leif. I felt at times that more focus was placed on Anna. I liked both characters, but Leif’s past/handling of trauma was left underdeveloped. Certain aspects of his past were introduced and left unmentioned for a while, then glossed over eventually at some point in the story.

PLOT LINES FALLING FLAT

⪼1⪻ Leif’s nightmares
↳ Since the accident, Leif has nightmares often relating to not getting to Anna in enough time. After Anna had to wake Leif from a bad nightmare, Anna decided to bring up the discussion of going to therapy. The conversation was tabled with the promise of eventually being revisited. The topic of therapy was not brought up again until the epilogue. It was also only brought up by Anna telling readers than it being a showing or a conversation between the MC.

⪼2⪻ The person who caused the accident
↳ This plot line was rather predictable. Once I heard that a man in a car was watching her, I had a feeling that the man was related to the accident. I feel that it fell flat because it was added more for the shock value/extra drama than to be woven into the story for the purpose of developing the story.

The voice actors in this audio read are outstanding! I highly recommend checking out the audio version!

4 ⭐'s

Leif and Anna were both involved in the same horrible accident, however, their injuries are totally different.

After Anna gets out of the hospital and finds out some traumatic information, she seeks out Leif and they become friends. And slowly more.

Leif was very intuitive about their relationship while Anna was figuring things out. I really enjoyed that and the humor involved.

The epilogue was surprising but then again - not. Go Anna!

* 2nd book of Larsen Bros series. Each book is a stand-alone.

*********************************************

Plot:

The book is about two people who were connected through an accident they had. Leif injured his arm but Anna was in a coma for 7 months, during which her husband cheated on her with her best friend and impregnated her.

After she wakes up, she sees how much her world is changed and tries to adapt to it in the best way she can.

(Before you uncover the spoiler below , please be aware of the fact that it has a spoiler about Book 1.)

Leif is a man who has trust issues because

*********************************************

I thought I was going to like this book more than the 1st one but the opposite happened. I didn't enjoy this book much, definitely not as much as I liked Book 1.

First of all, I didn't like how the hero behaved and how their whole relationship developed.

It's her who kisses him the first time, it is her who says she loves him the first time. It is even her who proposes to him in the end. I hated all that.

And to make matters worse, when she kisses him first, he rejects her, saying it is not a good idea and they are better as friends. He says she is going through a lot and she shouldn't start a new relationship that soon.

And when he is ready, he doesn't make the first move, he just reminds her of the time she hit on him and he tells her that she should repeat it. Huh, what a lazy boy!!!!

“You’re rambling. What were we talking about before?”

“I was referring to that time you hit on me.”

I freeze.

“You remember.”

Give me strength. “I could hardly forget.”

“Don’t be embarrassed,” he says, as if it makes everything better. “You were drunk and horny and dealing with a lot. Like, more than most people ever have to deal with in a lifetime. I thought you did quite well keeping your shit together.”

“Thanks,” I say drily.

“We all makes mistakes now and then.”

“Great.”

“And if we’d gotten involved then, it would have been a mistake.” He stares off at nothing, pondering this for a moment. “A big mistake.”

I slide down. I’d disappear if I could. “Right.”

“Huge, even.”

“You’re doing absolutely nothing for my ego.”

“Huh? Oh. Hang in there.” He pats me on the knee and then goes so far as to leave his hand there lingering for a moment. “The point I’m trying to make, Anna, is that that was then and this is now.”

“So?”

“So you should try again,” he announces with a smile.

“What?”

“Try again,” he encourages. “Come on to me.”

How romantic and sexy, right??? Not!!!

All through the book, I never felt the hero's feelings for her. I never ever believed in his feelings for her. She was really into him but I didn't believe he had as strong feelings for her. Well, once or twice, he talked about his feelings but I wasn't impressed.

*********************************************

As I said, I didn't like the hero. The heroine, Anna, on the other hand, is so very likable. I loved her. She is sweet, strong and I loved how she stood firm and strong when her cheating bastard of a husband apologized and begged her to take him back numerous times. She never considered forgiving him.

*********************************************

Writing:

The book is short - only 178 pages. It is not developed enough and it feels a bit shallow.

The thoughts and feelings of the heroine take lots and lots of pages, with no action or dialogues, which makes it boring most of the time.

It is also full of editing mistakes and sometimes it doesn't flow. It makes you think that some parts in the book are lost.

For example, I didn't understand why the conversation about her ex cheating on her abruptly turns into a conversation about the houses she was considering to rent.
👇👇👇
See how there is NO clear transition from one idea to the other.

“You asked for details?”

“I wanted to know if they’d done it in our house,” I explain. “In our bed. I wanted to know if he’d protected himself and me from any possible diseases or whatever. How disrespectful and stupid the sin was, exactly.”

A nod.

“The first place is on West Street.”

“Tell me about it, he says.

“Two bedrooms, one bathroom, wood-burning fireplace and big bay windows.”

“Sounds nice. What else have you got?”

“A new one-bedroom, one-bathroom in the East End and an old one-bedroom, two-bathroom in West Bayside.”

“That’s a lot of bathrooms for one person,” he says.

“And both have heated floors.”

“Delightful.”

See? It's weird, right?
🤔😲🤔😲🤔😲🤔😲

All in all, it is not a book I hated but I definitely didn't enjoy it enough...

Anna was on her way to the grocery store one afternoon when she was involved in a car accident. She wakes up seven months later to find out that while the pause button was pushed on her life, some people she cared about have already used the fast forward button. She has to come to grips with the fact since she has been in a coma life has carried on without her.

After a long physical recovery Anna is determined to move on with her new normal, even if it is without people she thought would always be in her future. There was someone else injured in her accident and he also played a part in saving her life. Leif was also involved in her recovery too so she decides to go meet him in person so she can thank him.

Meeting Leif takes her on a whole new path. She is now jobless, single and looking for a bit of meaning in life when Leif asks her to be his new room mate. After nearly losing her life, she has decided she could be a bit more spontaneous so she agrees to moving in. After all, he is the only one who truly understands what she has gone through.

A wonderful friendship that had its beginnings while she was not yet awake soon grows into so much more for them. Anna loves being around Leif and she is not only physically healing but also mentally & spiritually. She has been awakened to see that what she wants in life is not what she thought she did prior to her accident. She becomes so much stronger when it comes to facing things that would normally make her uncomfortable. I was so damn proud of her for standing up for herself when it came to those people who have hurt her.

I loved how things transitioned from friendship to something much deeper than they expected and it slowly crept on them until it felt like they had always meant to be together. Another fabulous read from Kylie and once again, Andi Arndt effortlessly brought these characters to life with her flawless performance.

Quick fulfilment

I feel like I’m the champion of Repeat by Kylie Scott, I loved that audio and I’ve since re-listened and re-read. So Pause had big shoes to fill and alongside that Leif wasn’t the easiest character like in Repeat having fouled up in his relationship choices bringing consequences.

Pause started with an accident and hospitals which felt reminiscent of Repeat but I didn’t mind that to be honest, as Anna’s story was different enough to feel new. The circumstances she found herself in however, were pretty vile.

I liked hearing about how Anna’s life unraveled and came back together, I perhaps wanted a bit more narrative about her recovery. Anna and Leif had chemistry but it felt pretty fast moving. I enjoyed the story but I wasn’t wowed by it.

This was a quick listen, I would say this is a perfect for a day or a weekend, with great narration. Andi Arndt excels at male dialogue, so while this is a single POV story, when Leif speaks, it feels so credible on the audio.

Thank you to Audible for the early review copy.

The cover of the book confused me at first glance. When I read the book, I was not expecting it to start out as a tragedy. To hear about the accident and then suddenly this mystery man within Chapter 1 really got me hooked. Although this sounds like it can be a true story. I'm almost certain it could be. I have no idea because I didn't read the bio in the car. I just added it to my library on Audible. I give this book 5 stars and it's only a 6 hour read so it's pretty short. Just be prepared for a rollercoaster of emotions!
